Creating this song wasn't easy, but I'm so proud of how it turned out.
Want to say a big thank you for everyones support over the years. During the years trapped inside with chronic health problems the main thing that kept me going was a belief that one day I would come out the other side, and be able to achieve success through music. I don’t have a label, and sometimes pushing these things as hard as I want becomes a massive challenge, and I find myself frustrated that there aren’t enough hours in the day to push it as far as I want to. I can vouch (as can everyone else here) that Ren gives everyone permission to play and share his music. This guy is completely different from almost every other artist with his outlook on copyrights, money, etc. He's crazy talented and a genuinely good soul. I'm almost 54 and I'm in love with this guy's music. He has managed to have crossover appeal to all age groups, men,women, all races, etc. He's special.

@GitanaAdelle Absolutely. You're safe showing his videos. Ren has said that if you ever get a violation for showing his video, you should dispute it. That will somehow make him aware of your channel. He gives you permission to play his videos, and he splits any money made 50/50. I've heard him say it with my own ears in an interview. Good luck to you.

As an independent artist Ren has grown from under 200k subs to over a million in the last 8 months, mostly on the strength of this song. Everyone can relate, so true. Then you look at more of his work and you just start to see that he is just overflowing with talent, and a genuine person.

Hi Gitana. Ren has given a few interviews to his reactors. They are all really good but I would recommend the one he gave to Justin Hawkins on his channel, "Justin Hawkins Rides Again", where he goes into detail of his life and the illness that nearly "claimed" him. It really shows his emotional intelligence. Ren is a once in a generation artist. No doubt. He is independant and encourages people to react to his music to spread it. He is in "the business" for the love not the money and fame, which is almost unheard of these days. He writes his own lyrics and beats, sings, and directs/co-directs most of his videos. He recently decided to do a rap album so most of his current releases are to be from that album, coming in the next month. I am not a fan of rap but his music and lyrics hit different from all the others out there and I have listened to most of his catalogue and haven't yet heard a song I didn't like. Ren isn't religous, by the way, but likes the mythology/iconography, hence the gods and demons references in "Hi Ren". Ren is very open about his struggles and life events a lot of which he mentions in his interviews. His misdiagnosis and about 8 years of the "wrong" treatments, which nearly "claimed" him are told with candour and humour. He is a rare talent. TALE OF JENNY and SCREECH
I'm 70, and I believe Ren is one of the most important artists of my lifetime. He makes you think, he makes you cry. He is fearless, he faces the world as it is - and then he lifts his viewers up and inspires them. This is only the beginning. You'll listen to a lot of Ren songs and performances before you can really have a sense of his talents.... they are incredibly broad. Try listening to Ren X Chinchilla in Chalk Outlines - her voice is incredible, and the way their voices blend is amazing. They've both said of each other that it was like finding a musical sibling.
That was essentially a live performance with multiple cameras - the guitar was plugged in and he had a lapel mic (and probably one or more boom mics as well). Ren's spent a lot of years busking on the streets of Brighton solo, with friends, and with the band The Big Push. Although Ren really seems to be taking off recently, one of his busking videos went viral 4 years ago with his buddy Sam Tompkins. "Earned It/Man's World/Falling" has 11 million views. He's very comfortable shooting his videos with crowds of unwary pedestrians staring at him and recording live audio where the acoustics are good.
I try to warn all reactors new to Ren NOT to react to "Violet's Tale" as a standalone video although it's available as one. It's the third song in a trilogy. The trilogy is available with all three full-length videos end-to-end and in the proper order as "The Tale of Jenny & Screech" which includes the piece "Violet's Tale" even though it's not in the title. Like "Hi Ren", it's more than a song - it's a modern, musical Shakespearian tale told by a modern bard and the videos are also live performances. Although "Hi Ren" is deeply personal, "The Tale of Jenny & Screech" was inspired by a real news headline and Ren used artistic license to flesh it out.
Ren will leave you curled in a ball sobbing uncontrollably with some songs. He has a way of bringing every bit of pain you've ever experienced to the surface by singing openly about all of his pain - from being misdiagnosed with mental illness while his body and brain were ravaged by undiagnosed Lyme disease to songs about losing his freckled friend Joe to suicide at 19 years old. Best to have a box of tissue and a support person available.
He was also raised reading dystopian social commentary books like "Nineteen Eighty Four", "Animal Farm", "Lord of the Flies" and so on. A lot of his songs are commentaries on what he sees wrong with society today even though he acknowledges he's part of the problem because he has to live within the system.
Most of all, Ren just loves music. It's what got him through the days where he would spend up to 23 hours in bed in excruciating pain - it's what helped him through the loss of Joe ("Freckled Angels" is the song he wrote for Joe's memorial). He's been working on his latest album, "Sick Boi", which is a hip-hop album so most of his latest videos are in that genre, but he really defies genres. Just keep going through his catalog and I assure you you will find something you love. He's releasing "Love Music Part 4" in a couple days and you should really check out parts 1 - 3.

Ren is an independent artist and is very pro reactions so u don’t have to worry about copyright issues. He often gives shoutouts to reactors on his own channel. As a lot have already said the full version of The Tales of Jenny and Screech is a must watch.

I've watched this SO many times, and it still gives me shivers and deep thoughts. I think one of the most inspirational aspects of this video is his level of courageousness to open-up to the world about his demons. He's an open book, and it's refreshing. If you want to see a very different side of Ren, watch something like Chalk Outlines or Losing it.

Gitana, I'm so happy that you've finally discovered Ren. This man is truly the UK's new national treasure, protect him at all costs. Just a quick summary of this artist, and his past battles. He spent close to seven years sick at home in his bedroom for close to 23 hrs a day feeling like he was on deaths door and all the while misdiagnosed by multiple doctors telling him it was phycological, M.E, depression ect. all the while bombarding him with anti-psychotics & other harmful meds before finally being properly diagnosed with Lyme Disease and finally receiving the proper treatments, such as stem cell replacement. Unfortunately due to being untreated for so long and tacking so much harmful meds that were not needed it took a tole on his joints, cerebral cortex (brain), and auto immune system. He's presently in Canada receiving treatments in attempt to reverse the damage done to his body. Much of his music deals with the trauma he's been through but Ren is also an activist on many social problems we face today.
Ren is a Sing/Songwriter, Rapper, Poet, Multi-instrumentalist (Guitar electric/acoustic, Bass, Piano, Drums & he Beatbox's), Producer, Director, Actor, Storyteller. All these traits, for the most part, are self taught as well. I guarantee you that this is the most fulfilling rabbit hole you'll ever dive into. I'm here for the ride and will never get tired seeing reactors discover his brilliance and versatility. This is how I've described Ren in the past in the comments section:

It's not a music video but if you really want to understand Ren you should watch the video he put out when he hit 1M subs. He talks about success and his health and it is probably one of the most empowering videos I have ever seen. Ren is a true artist and he threw out the rules so he crosses genres and he puts out what he wants, how it wants it. His fans are a bit... protective...lol.. he's collecting the broken, damaged, forgotten, lost people and reminding them they have a voice. The he does something that is just light, fun and quirky to remind you he's not lost in the dark anymore, he just understands it.
Me and you have the same reaction when I heard that song that is one powerful message and I've been going down the same rabbit hole and his music is getting better and better

Well the great and sadly missed Sinead O'Connor wrote this May17 this year on Twitter : "Holy motherfuckin SHIT! Someone just showed me this at the weekend. This Archangel from like, the twelfth heaven or somewhere, has only gone and made teh entire history of songwriting and performing look like a three year old's birthday party at Burger King." High praise indeed and if you delve more into Ren you'll come across "the tale of Jenny and Screech" full version and then see him on the streets busking singing and playing his heart out for teh world to see, followed by his vulnerable tracks, uplifting tracks the list goes on and on. I am well into my 50's now and I relax when Ren comes out with a new song, as he loves music and expressing himself and I enjoy it even if subject is difficult.
This song is one of those songs that will never fade away and will always be relevant. I’d probably watched at least 50 different reactions This is an iconic masterpiece.

I have a bizarre feeling that this will beat any Turing test approach for AI Sentience. Once AI can have unpredictable reactions to, learning from and behaviours following introduction of this song it should be classed as sentient.

It didn't take but a few seconds to captivate you with this masterful work and you can see it when you forced yourself to stop, the expression you had was one of regret and remorse. The people who take the harshest of life experiences, make them relateable and after feeling broken you are left better than you were at the start, there's just something about music which has been anointed as opposed to all the others that are not. I love ren, there's not many whom are so raw and honest with their music. He's so creative and diverse too.
I do think it is a bit early to say, but it is quite possible that Ren is a generational talent. He is certainly the most versatile performer, one where every aspect of what he does is top level

Wow! Where do i start. What a fantastic reaction, i only hope you will continue with more Ren. I'm new to channel, but will subscribe to watch your Ren journey.
Ren really is a truly beautiful human. He was signed to Sony at 17, but became ill overnight and had to give up that deal. He was wrongly diagnosis for years, and was so ill he would spend 23hrs a day in his bedroom. He was finally correctly diagnosed with Lyme disease years later, and had 2 stem cell transplants, that have finally given him back some health. He is currently in Canada having treatment for the damaged nerves in his brain.
Consequently, Ren has a huge back catalogue of work to explore, including his 2 bands,Trick the Fox, and The Big Push.
Start wherever you want, Sick Boi is a great follow on to this though. The Tale of Jenny and Screech Full version must be done in one go, although it is actually 3 videos. Ren is releasing a new 18track album in September, and on the run up to that will be dropping a new track every Thursday for the next 4 weeks. Starting with Love Music pt4 this week.( so you probably need to do pts 1,2 and 3! Also Money Game pt3 is part of the album, so you need to do pts 1 and 2. Pt2 needs to be the lyric video, not the live.

Gitana, you were mezmerized. Ren is an amazing artist you cannot shunt into one genre; he epitomizes performance art. My suggestion is that you check out 'Sick Boi' next and read up a bit on his backstory. Then I strongly suggest 'Tale of Jenny and Screech (Full)' by Ren. This is a trilogy of stories about 3 individuals. The stories are not for the faint of heart and there is an underlying message about society. After that, Ren has a broad collection of songs that will continue to amaze you.

I’ve been watching your videos for quite a while now, and I am so excited that you have no discovered Ren; his music is PERFECTLY suited for your channel. His tracks are powerful, emotional, funny, witty, intelligent, sad/tugging on your heart strings kind-of-deal, and overall, something that many of us have never heard before. I can’t wait for you to dive down this rabbit hole because it is very well suited for the type of videos you post (and let’s be honest, he’s well suited for anyone who hears him)
Another enjoyable reaction. I wrote this introduction to Ren when I first discovered him earlier this year, as there wasn't a Wikipedia entry for people to look him up prior to March 2023. I have posted this info to every "Hi Ren" reaction I have come across since, and I hope it will be of some use to the uninitiated.
Ren is an independent artist/singer/songwriter/busker/producer from Brighton, UK. He plays multiple instruments (acoustic, electric, and bass guitar, piano, melodica, drums), has impressive vocals, produces all his own beats, is an excellent storyteller, and is quite the philosopher and poet. He is considered by many a modern-day bard; he calls his music "bardcore."
Ren's music videos are frequently recorded live, often in a single take, although not necessarily the first take, and from various camera angles. In the case of "Hi Ren," it took four takes, all live in the room, to get the footage he wanted. Someone commented that Samuel Perry-Falvey who filmed "Hi Ren," talks about the production of the video in the comments of Jonathan Hiller's (Filmmaker Reacts) reaction to the song. According to him, this video footage is not a one-take per se, but the audio was recorded live in a single take. Ren's release, "Sick Boi," is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren" and appears to have been filmed in the same room.
"Hi Ren" is the song that put Ren on everyone's radar since December; it went viral and has garnered over 17 million views since its debut. Ren recently released a video of an older live stage performance of “Hi Ren;” it is worth checking out. However, Ren has been creating great music for more than ten years. Many of Ren's songs resonate with people because he addresses struggles that many others face every day.
Ren's earliest recordings on RUclips are from his time in a band called "Trick The Fox," consisting of Ren and his buddies Charlie and Tommy. Unfortunately, the band performed only briefly due to Ren's onset of health issues. They are very talented. A fun clip to watch is "The Mash Up." Ren's trilogy "The Tale of Jenny/Screech/Violet" has been likened to a Shakespearean tragedy and is a prime example of his genius; it is a master's class in storytelling and also showcases his guitar skills. The three acts are haunting, and the conclusion will catch you off guard. The trilogy needs to be watched in the order given, as this is the flow of the storyline and is best watched as a whole rather than piecemeal.
Ren's Hip Hop/Rap style songs are all worth checking out if you enjoy this genre; they are pretty amazing. Check out "The Hunger," "Genesis," "What You Want," "Losing It (FISHER rap retake)," "Right Here, Right Now (Fatboy Slim one shot retake)," "Life is Funny," "Love Music (Parts 1, 2, and 3)," "Crucify Your Culture," "Power," "Hold On," just to name a few.
Ren's collaborations with Chinchilla ("Chalk Outlines," "How to Be Me," "Sexual Healing," "One Dance/Drunk in Love") are beautiful and showcase his singing voice. His live music videos are especially impressive. Ren's personal reflections are threaded through many of his songs; "Insomnia," "Depression," "Diazepam," "Penitence," "Dear God," "Heretic," "Dominos," his "Freckled Angels" album, in particular his song "Fire," just to name a few, all deserve a listen. His song "Money Game" (Part I & II) is another recommendation, although it is less of a personal song than it is an indictment of greed and the resulting injustices in this world. Ren is about to shoot "Money Game Part III."
Ren's performances with Sam Tompkins ("Blind Eyed," "Earned It /Mans World / Falling," "Walking on the Moon/No Diggity," "Feeling Good/Trouble So High/Masterblaster (Jammin')," "Latch," "Wild Thoughts/Crazy in love (Live Session)," "Same Old Situation (Live, feat. Ren)," "Improvising Around Stevie Wonder," "Live in the Streets of Brighton, UK," "What Went Wrong" Part I&II) are definitely a must. Also, his collaborations with Eden Nash ("Humble," "Ocean"), Bibi ("Crutch," "Ahiahiaoha"), Molly McKinna ("Penitence"), Orlean ("Jessica"), his former bandmate Romain Axisa ("French Song"), are all great. Last but not least, Ren's busking sessions with Liv Sangster are awesome. I recently discovered that Ren also recorded a cover of "Can't Help Falling In Love (Elvis Cover)," which is simply beautiful.
"The Big Push" (Ren Gill, Gorran Kendall, Romain Axisa, and Glen Chambers) busking sessions, concerts, and live recordings all are amazing and well worth checking out. All but the drummer sing lead vocals at times. Ren, Gorran, and Romain all play multiple instruments. Ren plays acoustic, electric, and bass guitar, piano, and drums. Gorran plays acoustic, electric, bass guitar, and harmonica. Romain plays acoustic, electric, bass guitar, ukulele, and piano. They are each incredibly gifted artists, and their solo work is completely different from each other. Well worth checking out. Their covers of "I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop," "Wade in the Water/Nina Simone/Trouble So Hard," "War Pigs," "Roadhouse Blues," "My Generation," "Paint It Black," "An Englishman in New York," "Bongo Bong" are excellent. On "These Boots Are Made For Walking'/Satisfaction/Everybody," "Praise You" (Fatboy Slim Cover), and "What Kind Of Woman Is This," all three take a turn singing. The songs "Oh My Woman," "Swan Song," "Sweet Little Lady," "It's Alright," "Dignity," "Watch Out," and so many others are equally impressive.
The band, at least for the time being, performed their last official busking session and gave their last concert in September of last year (2022) due to the fact that Ren was leaving for Canada to undergo specialized medical care and surgeries for his multiple health issues.
In anticipation of his stay in Canada, Ren prepared some music ahead of time to be released during the time he expects to be gone. He released "Sick Boi," "Bittersweet Symphony (The Verve retake)," which is another masterful work, "Illest Of Our Time," and "Animal Flow," which is out now in two versions, a full-production music video, and a live, one-take acoustic version. Ren also premiered the official music video of his song “Murderer,” and followed it up with a newly recorded acoustic live version that is phenomenal and my favorite of the two versions.
Ren's release, "Su!cIde," recently premiered, and it was hard to watch to the point that I was not able to watch or listen to it again. I was not even able to watch a single reaction to it. It is a sad, haunting, gut-wrenching tribute to Ren's friend Joe who took his own life. Ren’s follow-up to “Su!cIde,” "For Joe," is also sad and emotional, but strangely enough, it has had a healing effect on me and has given me a sense of closure. Even the lyrics that "gutted" me in "Su!cIde" impacted me differently this time around.
This is one of the most satisfying reactions to this song I've ever seen and I've seen so many at this point I've lost count. Please watch the rest of his work with us as well - there are so many of his songs that I just can't wait to see you experience. I'd suggest doing The Tale of Jenny and Screech (full version) rather than the three songs separately (as listed in your Description) - it will impact much harder if you see them all together.
