      I'd like to see them do all of Terminal Redux or Forest of Legend to be honest before Tetrastructural Minds. Great song but its overated. Its that song people throw at react channels because its such an insane song. But the same could be said of LCD or Pteropticon or Black Future. Vektor doesn't really have bad songs though....

    • @ivangushkov3651
      @ivangushkov3651 6 лет назад +3

      Khellendross oh LCD is easily one of the most technical songs ever. There is like 15 fucking riffs in there, and most of them are more complex than the solos of some bands xD

    • @khellendross3573
      @khellendross3573 6 лет назад

      yea LCD doesn't even really have much of a solo!

      Black Future for that ridiculously fat riff about a minute in to the song.

  • @Shwa_Shwa42

    The whole album is a sci-fi concept album, a big space opera, and this the last song of the album. Its worthy of an entire listen while trying to decipher the story.

  • @khellendross3573

    This is exactly the reaction I was hoping for when I picked this song.
    Couple of things about Vektor. The band is similar to Death in that its largely the brainchild of one man. David DiSanto. David provides, lead vocals (and did the clean vocals here as well) as well as lead guitars, the bulk of the composition and all of the lyrics. They are considered Blackened (Space) Thrash but have very strong progressive elements. The super fast sections and the vocals are pretty indicative of the black metal influence. What makes Vektor special is the insane speed and technicality at which they play while still crafting memorable riffs and integrating stuff like the Pink Floyd inspired middle section.
    This is part of a concept album, and the three directly connected songs are Charging the Void, Recharging the Void and Outer Isolation (which is from a previous album). However Recharging the Void features callbacks to multiple songs on the Terminal Redux album. The story is loosely that our protagonist (I won't call him a hero, cause he is certainly not) is exiled from his planet of Cygnus, sent out on his ship (Cygnus Terminal) into a star (Alshain) When he breaches the star, the cosmic dust seals his damaged ship and him as well, granting him immortality. He returns to his home planet and systematically begins destroying those who exiled him. Enacting a technological virus to destroy half the population with the goal towards becoming essentially a god. But eventually evil cannot create, it can only destroy and in the song Collapse (before Recharging on the album) he sees the depth of his evil and decides the only way to change fate is to return himself to Alshain and end his life. That brings us to Recharging the Void. As you can see it is quite the epic story.
    This song brings me to tears at around the 11 minute mark when it transitions out of the black metal section into the choir. I think this is one of the best thrash records in the last decade and deserving of the many critical accolades it got in 2016 when it was released. Glad you guys loved it. I hope you will do a full album react to this one because its a seriously astonishing album.
    Also you may want to hit up Vektor Official on twitter and see if David will do an interview with you guys. He's a super nice, very soft spoken dude but has a pretty insane creative mind. Would be a fun convo.

      Khellendross - too bad they disbanded, many think it was due to the girlfriend being well... you know.
      The other 3 members already have a band going so you should check them out.
      Just wish Vektor stayed together, but women.

    • @khellendross3573
      @khellendross3573 6 лет назад +2

      well the band didn't disband really (I mean Vektor as an entity is still active). Its similar to Death. Vektor was really David's brainchild. Not to take anything away from the other three who are all amazing, but I tend to think if anything it was about David not wanting to give up ANY creative control. People often said that of Chuck as well. But at the end of the day Death always was able to put out amazing records while constantly reshuffling band members. Vektor will to. David posted some new material about a month ago, so I am pretty sure its not the last of Vektor. Whats the name of the project the other three guys are in?
      We had a similar situation to this in the same year with Scale the Summit, but I think in that case Scale the Summit was irrevocably hurt because all 4 guys there wrote the songs. And with just Chris left in the band, the resulting album was...pretty terrible, even with some great guest stars. Time will tell but the little snippet that David posted sounded very intriguing.

    • @khellendross3573
      @khellendross3573 6 лет назад +4

      Oh one cool thing about Vektor that you might find interesting Vin, being a guitarist. Their songs are all played in F standard. Yes in the modern day of downtuning the shit out of everything, these guys are actually tuning their guitars UP. Crazy. I think it sort of lends to the spacey feel of the music.

    Vektor is hands down one of the greatest metal bands to ever exist. I consider them way up there when it comes to composition and making a genre like thrash sound so refined and refreshing. Same can be said of Revocation. I would really like to see you guys react to Advent Sorrow - Pestillence Shall Come (been requesting it for months), but would also like to see your thoughts on Amorphis - The Bee, and Insomnium - Revelation.

    These kids played just down the street from where I lived for years in Mesa, AZ. I watched them grow from a small hometown band that no one knew about to a thrash dynasty. Amazing.This song and this album... and all of their albums are thrash masterpieces. Cheers to Dave and Erik for the best of hometown shows a metalhead could ask for! Look at my channel and you'll see several videos recorded from my phone from their last hometown shows with the original 4 members. I've probably seen them at least 15 times live here.

    This band's logo and the sound of their music sounds like they are a tribute to Voivod. They are not bad at it. You should react to Voivod killing technology or dimension hatross. Those are classics.

    • @khellendross3573
      @khellendross3573 6 лет назад +7

      while their inspirations from Voivod are pretty apparent, I don't think they sound musically that much like them. Bits here and there and obviously the whole space thrash idea owes a big part to them. But I see alot more Destruction in their sound than Voivod to be honest.

    The 3 main stars of the constellation Aquila are Altair, Alshain, and Tarazed. "Shahin-I Tarazu" is an Arabic phrase meaning "the balance" and is where the names of Alshain and Tarazed are derived. Altair is derived from "Al-Nasr Al-Tair" meaning "The Flying Eagle".

    Thank you, thank you, thank you! You made a terrible day a whole lot better. Vektor is my favorite band, my back patch on my battle vest is Black Future (their first record). Yea this song is crazy. It is part of a concept album. The story is loosly as follows (the short version):
    Protagonist (iso subject 5) is part of an isolation experiment, he is sent into space so that they can test how isolation effects humans (this is also a form of banishment). He reaches the remenants of the super nova of Alshain (Alshain went boom). And in there he finds a particle that gives immortality. So they do achieve it, but later on that. He comes back and starts to assume complete control over the government. After he does that, he sterilizes the population, makes everyone immortal with the particle and becomes an all powerful dictator. The humans are now immortal and unable to procreate, and after some time they realize that they have gone too far and that this is no way to live. They have achieved everything, they have explored the universe and found no closure. So they all board the Cygnus Terminal (a massive space terminal left from the previous government) and go to Alshain, toward a fiery grave if you will. There they enter the cloud left from the supernova (the star is long dead). And they set the terminal to self destruct. In the first song, Charging the Void, they say Relic Alshain, Oh shahin i tarazu now my flesh is born anew. And in this last song they say Relic Alshain, oh shahin i tarazu I return my flesh to you. That is why they choose this star in particular. It is the star that gave them immortality and they are returning it. *exhales*

    Nice to see something not being Pantera-Big Four-Priest-Maiden-Sabbath-Motorhead etc. (like you said in the beginning). I hate when people spam requests for songs/bands with multiple reaction videos already.. still many of my favourite songs I haven't seen others take joy in discovering, which would be cool.
    EDIT: I've seen it now, and I loved your positively surprised reactions, especially Vin towards the guitars and the groove shift. I'd recommend "THE HOLOGRAPHIC PRINCIPLE" from Epica. It's 11:35 long, and someone made a REALLY good lyric video for it on RUclips. The instruments, vocals and lyrics are all top notch. + the guitar solo in the intro is SO DAMN TASTY! And it's a great entry point to Symphonic Metal (although it's better than most other symph-metal songs). Plus, you would have a lot to talk about in regards to the lyrics!

      I don't get why they are lumped into the thrash sub genre. To me, it's far more death/ prog metal with even some black metal influences. Then again some riffs are realy thrashy. Who cares anyway, this album is a masterpiece.

    the background singers are only on two songs ( this one, and the first part of this song called charging the void) if i'm correct. This was the conclusion of the album terminal redux, and it's a concept album. The clean and screaming voice was the same singer.

    You cannot fully grasp the lyrics of this song without listening to the full album. The entire album tells a story and this song is the closer, and the lyrics of this song reference the past songs and events (as it is a concept album) constantly.

    42:50 "the musicianship was CRAZY..." David DiSanto is singing (screaming) while playing those crazy riffs. On most of the album, the two guitarists are playing different things at the same time, wether it be harmonies or different chord inversion or whatnot. And as others have stated, they tune UP to F-standard :)

    • @darkstar8196
      @darkstar8196 6 лет назад

      sopwithsnoopy they tune up a whole step? Are there any other bands that do that?

    • @sopwithsnoopy8779
      @sopwithsnoopy8779 6 лет назад +1

      Only a half-step. From E (standard guitar tuning) to F is only a half-step because there is no E-sharp/F-flat. But no, I don't know of any other metal bands that tune UP, since tuning down gives chords and notes a heavier sound. There are some pretty heavy bands out there that still use standard E tuning, like Sylosis.

    • @khellendross3573
      @khellendross3573 6 лет назад +1

      I dunno of anyone else that tunes to F. Its pretty unique. And definitely is a part of their unique sound. I'd love to interview David sometime and find out where they hit upon that idea of tuning up. But to sopwithsnoopy's point. its a half step due to the lack of a e sharp. Also there are alot of bands like Sylosis that use standard tuning or E Flat (half step down) Iced Earth for example. So you definitely don't need to tune to Drop C or the like to get a super heavy feel in your music.

    The first few times listening to this you can't try to read and understand the lyrics. Just sit back and take it all in. This song is the final song on their Terminal Redux album. It's a deep sci-fi space travel concept album so you need to understand all the other songs in order to understand the story this song is telling. I just turn it up and enjoy the sonic journey.
