Hi Armando, in the last scene the focus seems to be off about 10 to 15cm - your face is quite soft, the hair on your rear head seems to be sharp and detailed. Did you notice that in other shots/scenarios, too?
I agree, there were several times that the focus wasn’t quite there. Some ever so slight hunting as well. Still a remarkable piece of tech, excited to see how it will improve (perhaps with a firmware update?)
@douglasrobson4624 I've heard there has been a firmware update. I've seen other channels where the focus is so damn good and also with longer lenses. It's also possible that its slightly off due to calibration being slightly off. If it's slightly off, it needs to be recalibrated again until the focus is spot on.
I have been trying to use mine in a drama type setup today and mine is so unreliable, I really can’t see this system being used on a proper set. At best it’s a manual follow focus system which can occasionally be used with lidar. I have measured the lidar to the witness mark experienced with the placement of it but when walking around for some reason it focuses just past the eyes, if you roll the wheel in AMF mode and then let it go it will lock on the eyes. So far I’m disappointed with mine and I don’t think we have seen many proper reviews on this unit.
I love mine too, it’s been great using it. I think you need to calibrate better your lens profile it seems to be off by a little. It happen to me too, I needed to do it a few times until it was perfect. Great content as usual 🙌
Is that a very soft lense, or was the focus a tad off the whole video? Any chance the calibration was off, or do I have some sort of video quality issues on my end?
It’s for sure the product of the year.. being able to do crash zooms or zollys on the fly.. we even rigged it on a robot arm and it just works so well on manual lenses.. it even brings old 35mm film cameras autofocus
How about gimbal auto-tracking using the LiDAR-enable ActiveTrack Pro capability? It'd be great know how well it tracks a subject in less than ideal light and conditions that can confuse the auto tracking. There seem to be very few videos testing the limits of the LiDAR-enabled auto-tracking with a gimbal.
Nice review! Finally someone familiar to production is doing a review on this. The only thing that's holding me back from this remote is the start stop. Have you found a way to start stop Alexa or Sony Venice?
It’s funny, I so often hear people in the film industry remark how they’re worried that AI or technology will make their position obsolete, but I almost never see them realize how tech can make their jobs easier, repeatable, more reliable, and reduce stress. No one loves being the AC that has to ask for more takes because you’re shooting on a full frame camera, wide open and someone is running up to camera, never really nailing their mark.
Hi, thanks for your review. And the system looks nice on paper. However, focus wise as others have noted, it seems to miss the mark every time. Most of us already have seen all the feature-videos, so some more real world tests with different lenses would be great. What is your sharpest lens? A zoom lens, portrait, wide angle.. Right now this video is stopping me from ordering it tbh. Anyway thanks for the video. I know lots of effort go into these. And congrats on actually getting it. Has been "out of stock" since the start for me.
I DO believe this is not sponsored, giving how excited you sound explaining things 😂 haha, it’s a great system no doubt, I was ALMOST sold on the Nano II but DJI is tempting, not gonna lie, it’s just more expensive.
I wish camera manufactures would do this for their native lenses directly on the camera through some kind of dial and have a wireless accessory for remote follow focus + camera control.
Unfortunately sold out anywhere for weeks now. Not sure if this shortage is supposed to be a great marketing strategy by DJI. I believe they should not release anything they are unable to actually deliver within a few weeks the longest. As for myself I’m now at 4 weeks and DJI is still not able to give a reliable estimate.

What’s your opinion for shooting sports like football using the Focus pro and cinema lenses ? Would you be able to focus properly with a bunch of players in the frame ?
Funny you say that because I’m working on a commercial in June that will do just that. What’s awesome about this system is you can lock focus to your main character and it will only track that person regardless if there’s other people in frame
@@mondobytes wow ! That’s interesting indeed. That would make for a great video using the DJi focus , (for such a complex and dynamic situation like that one)
Love your video and love this tech. I have Focus Pro and DZO 25mm and I can not get it to be right. My distance from LIDAR to sensor is 225mm and yet focus only seems reasonably sharp when I enter a distance of 300mm. Why is that?
As cool as this system is, there is a whole lot of latency between the hand unit, lidar system, and motors. Unfortunately this is a deal breaker for 1st ACs. Especially when you want to also incorporate DJI wireless to get the LIDAR overlay. You then add image latency. When your system is over a frame off, you've got problems when pulling focus. This system is great for one man band shooters and beginner focus pullers but as soon as you move past low end shoots, you're going to get screwed over and takes are going to be soft.
Maybe someone can answer this. I'm interested in this only for the improved active track performance that it offers. The big question is, does it actually improve active track? I'd be using it with AF lenses with iris AF on the body but I've been using active track as a "2nd shooter". For talking head it's rock solid but for subjects that move in and out of frame or become obstructed it just fails hard.
@mondobytes yes true but still defeats my stated purposes Tech increases so rapidly nowadays Sony or other camera manufacturers could easily put a lidar onto their cameras I'll wait it out ☺️❤️
to be honest I had big problems with the previous Version of DJI lidar. Always had to recalibrate and set up the profile again for 1m and 4m, which every time took like 5 minutes. It was unreliable and completely unusable in a professional context. I have a bit of doubt that the new system is as good as promised.
This is awesome! How is it if I use for example Canon FD lens with adapter on my Sony A7s III, will that work even tho I use an adapter? One more question: I sometimes use Sigma 18-35mm with adapter on a GH5, but the lens has no "hard" stops, as you hit infinity, you feel it, but you can go past it, it is just more resistance. Will the motor be able to tell that it is infinity and minimum focus with lenses like that and focus-by-wire lenses like Sony G-master? Would you ever use this system with native sony glass? I use the A7s III myself and 24-70 GM II :-)
