does the planer leave any kind of snipe?

It does. It was random for me, though. It doesn’t happen every time.

You will always get snipe if you feed slightly off or remove slightly off 📐.

EVERY small planer is going to randomly have the issue of snipe due to the way the workpiece engages with the drive rollers and cutter head on entry and exit- longer boards all the more likely if unsupported on entry and exit. That’s not a machine flaw- it’s geometry.
Presenter probably had few snipe issues due to the shorter stock AND that he was not attempting to hog out deep cuts in one pass.
The comparatively lower amperage of these machines (I’m 100% small solar powered so that’s important for me) and the really small footprint is why I’m researching this class. It makes sense because realistically with furniture and such you are seldom ever going to need to plane wider stock; the jointer component is just a bonus feature in this class imho.
But 8” isn’t really a limitation excepting table tops- but “none of us” is every going to have a 36” planer or wide belt sander and we’re going to handplane those anyways…
Seems like a great option to me! I’ve been working wood since ~1985 and have never had a planer, and I only had a jointer a couple of years before I sold it. My circa 1980’s Record jointer handplane has seen a lot of duty, though!
It was good to watch a plain ol’ no frills unbox-and-use video. Curious to see a long-term follow up with a bit of review and commentary, however. In a small shop we’re usually lowbudget and that compromise has some inherent risks. Would like to hear about the downsides and upsides after practical use beyond the obvious or expected downsides one could imagine.
