Yeah, it should have been a shit load of Daredevil level fighting and character development. But ugh
1 year and another season later, and its still a massive disappointment. I feel bad for the long time comic fans of Iron Fist, they probably feel cheated at this point.
I will never understand how Iron Fist ended up being a grounded superhero. It has so much potential outside of New York. Imagine an Iron Fist film in the MCU.

His origin story didn't involve a plane crash. That was a change in the adaption of the netflix show. In the comics, his parents and his dad's business partner took him to look for kun lun in the himalayas mountains. His father was dropped and killed in a cravas by his business partner while his mother was torn apart by wolves alive.

ricky4990 I think the plane crash was actually mixed up with orson’s origin and not the show.
I have this story, definitely check it out. This TL;DR skipped so many things about Orson Randall (who is a badass former adventurer and ended up in K'un Lun when his father crashed his airship in the city and his pregnant mother gave birth to him there) and Danny's dad Wendell Rand (who was a kid slave that Orson saves and takes as a ward. Wendell's last name of Rand is in honor or Orson Randall and then they went into Johnny Quest pulp type of adventures with other people). It also tells a pretty tragic story like how Wendell Rand heard about K'un-Lun from Orson and he wanted to be Iron Fist but Orson told him not to go and said that Wendell would NEVER be Iron Fist (which he remembered when he faced the Dragon) also Wendell's friendship with Davos turning sour. There's also the mystery of the Iron Fists dying when they reach age 33 (with Orson being the exception).
Definitely better than the Netflix show, you don't need any prior knowledge of Iron Fist to read it. Heck it was my firs Iron Fist story.

His family plane didn't crash near K'un L'un. His father took his family on an expedition specifically to go (back to in Wendell's case) to K'un L'un.

I think for the Netflix show they should've gone down the route of the immortal Iron Fist for season 1, leading into season 2. Having an intro for nearly every episode like in the comic showing off past Iron fists and giving the audience the idea of what power Danny Rand has. Something similar to what American gods did.

But I just wanted to say that Joan Lee, was a wonderful woman that lived a wonderful and long life. Stan was lucky to have a woman like her in his life. Joan should always be remembered throughout the marvel community. I am sorry for Stan's loss and hope he can recover so he isn't sad or depressed. Ultimate Spider-Man introduced me to Danny. Gave me the impression K'un L'un was a lost city, like Atlantis, in Tibet, not some other dimension.
Scott Buck should play Davos since he's the greatest threat the Ironfist has encountered.
Nah. Davos sticked for way longer than just the early comics, while Buck didn't stick for more than one season. He should be Zhou Cheng, the Iron Fist killer, who kills every Iron Fist in their 33rd birthday and seeks to release it's demonic master Chi' Lin upon the very source of Iron Fist's power, thus destroying their lineage. Big threat at first, but Danny figured out a way to kill him and he hasn't returned ever since. My second favorite Iron Fist villain though.
Brubaker and Fraction work on Iron Fist is amazing and should get all of the push from Marvel nowadays that it can get.

Zack Fry Well all I've been hearing is he is the reason for Iron Fist taking a swan dive. Don't think the conclusion I came to was unreasonable.
If this is in fact true though then I don't really give a damn what he is. He gots to go. Daredevil has been amazing. Spiderman was amazing. No excuse.
Well, they brought Raven Metzner to be the showrunner. I don't know his work (showrunner of Sleepy Hollow and some other shows, but I didn't watch them), but it's been said that he loves Iron Fist, which gives me hope. However, someone saying that the next season will be more grounded is a kick in the balls, no matter who they pick to be the showrunner.
Bran Duke In case you're curious, here's why Scott Buck is the major reason for Iron Fist having sucked:
- According to himself, the first thing he thought when handled the character was "At first, his powers didn't seem so great: all he can do is punch really hard, so I had to focus on other things". Anyone who says Iron Fist's only power is punching hard didn't do their homework at all.
- Also according to himself, the main reason why he picked the project was the success of Daredevil. It didn't have anything to do with him liking or caring about Iron Fist (which he clearly didn't), but money. It also explains the multiple similarities to Daredevil.
- After some months of shooting the show, Buck said that he "asked real scientists to understand how something like an Iron Fist would work in real life". What the actual f*ck?! Scientists are the LAST kind of people you should look for when trying to understand Iron Fist and his powers! Look for Buddhist monks, kung fu masters or even people into Tibetan mythology, damn it. Unnecessary to say, this was the first sign of how the show would be too grounded for a mystical character like Iron Fist.
- Near the release date, he said the Iron Fist suit wouldn't be featured because "Danny doesn't feel like a hero yet, so it didn't seem right to give him the suit just yet". At first, it was a big disappointment, but seemed like a reasonable answer. Then when the show dropped we realized the reason Danny wasn't a hero was because they made him as immature as possible. They damaged the character so that they wouldn't have to use the suit people had been begging for.
Remember in Daredevil, when Matthew spend most of the season in the home made suit and it didn't seem like we would get the classic red one we all love? Instead of doing just that and saying it was because the red suit wasn't fitting for the tone they were using, the showrunners decided that if fans wanted it, they would find a way to put it in the show: they explained the ideology behind the suit and came up with context for it to be created and used, and it was awesome.
Iron Fist's suit isn't the regular colorful superhero suit that they use just because it's cool, like Spider-Man's and even Daredevil's one: it's a ceremonial robe traditionally worn by all Iron Fists. It might be the ONLY superhero suit you can just slap on the protagonist without anyone questioning why it's there or if it's in tone with the character. The fact that it was left out says a lot about Iron Fist's show and the people running it: unlike Daredevil's showrunners, who listen to what fans want and come up with awesome reasons to include that stuff in their show even if it would usually feel out of place, Iron Fist's showrunners look at what fans want, laugh of it for thinking it's too ridiculous, then look for excuses for leaving it out of the show (like damaging their hero's character), even when it makes 100% sense for it to be there.
Wow... and thank you for typing all that. I know I shouldn't be surprised, but it blows my mind how people like him and Sony are just trying to wring as much money out of Marvel as they can rather than tell amazing stories. Scott Buck thought he could turn in a shit show and make bank like Daredevil. The dude needs to take cyanide. I do not expect Inhumans to deliver at all now knowing he's attached to it.
I know their universe is spread so far at this point, but Marvel needs to find some way to reign in these shows to make sure not just anybody is slipping in and screwing shit up. Only the best of the best and avid fans of the comics should be directing this stuff.
Also, that hero bit is the only part I think actually makes sense in the context of the Iron Fist we got on Netflix. Especially now that Defenders has come out and showed him taking over the role of Daredevil at the end. He now needs a costume to protect his identity as a hero unlike how in his show when he was just fighting the Hand. However the hell he'll get it now that K'un L'un is in the wind is BEYOND me. Perhaps he'll bump into Orson Randall's corpse or something and find it? Who knows lmao.

the Netflix show was such a huge missed opportunity, the character deserves so much better.
Yeah, man, I watched the show and really liked the idea, they could have done it better. I feel the same way about dr strange, love the character, Cumberbatch is perfect for the role, but the movies writing was bellow my expectations.

THERE WAS NO PLANE!!! That was only is the horrible failure of a Netflix adaptation and was one of many things it got wrong!! Danny Rand found K'un L'un because his father was looking to find it again (on foot!!) only to be killed by his business partner who drove off Danny and his mother. He was trained by Lei Kung the Thunderer because the ruler of K'un L'un, the August Personage of Jade, is his uncle.

Alright I'll abridge it as much as I can so Danny's Father Wendell lived in Kun-Lun for a time & was set up to be the next Iron Fist but after losing a lover his Wife he returned to America in a deep state of Depression. Then he met a Man named Harold Meachum & the two teamed up creating the Rand Corporation after a few years Wendell fell in love again with a Woman named Heath Duncan. Soon the two would be married & eventually had a Son together by the name of Danny Rand Kai. Anyway growing home stick now Wendell uh decided to journey back to Kun-Lun planning it around the interdimensional nexus that opening once every ten so he took his New Wife, Harold & his young Son Danny who was 9 at the time into the Tibet Mountains to show them the beauty of Kung Lung. But as it turns out Harold Meachum was jealous of Wendell & Heather's love so he pushed Wendell off a cliff seemingly kill the Guy proclaiming his love to Heather who like a sane person scoped her Son up and ran away for the Murderer. After awhile of running Heather and Danny reached a rope bridge and both of them were exhausted from running and to add to the dangerous situation they were in a pack of rabid Wolves were on their tails because why now? So with no time left Heather thorw her Son onto the rope telling him to run She then literally threw herself to the Wolves giving up Her own life for Her Child's like any good Mother should buying time for Him to run across the Rope Bridge. Spurred on by His Mother's Selfless Sacrifice Danny found new strength the Young Boy safely escaped the Wolves after that those tragic events the denizens of K'un-Lun found the boy & took him to their city.

First off, his dad fell off a cliff on the way to Kun Lun (pronounced koon loon), and his mother was eaten by wolves. Second, Davos wasn't a prisoner, he realized how wrong he was and the Thunderer told him guard the egg and baby of Shou Lao the Undying until the next Iron Fist was ready, after Danny Rand killed Shou Lou to get his powers.
