WOW, that vocal was amazing. She has a phenominal voice.
Chase Truran. Much more here as well as 'Chase sings' and 'Chaseycha' channels.
You're not kidding!!! wow.
I’ve been a musician/songwriter, producer, engineer/mixer for 35 years and a huge Todd Rundgren fan as well, and I must say that this is the best version of this song I’ve ever heard. Awesome job!!
Yes--Kudos to who arranged this
They are amazing!
@Chuck Kawal like you I am a huge Todd Rundgren fan! Also you are so right in stating this is the best version of the song. Yes, I Love Todd, but this is better than even his version.
@@catholicdad That would be Tim, with input from Toby and the rest of the band.
Absolutely spot in! 👍👍
Wow! Everyone knows this group is super talented, but the lead vocals by that young lady brings tears to my eyes!
Such soulful talent! She can keep up with anyone out there. Adele, Clarkson, and Miley.
Chase Truran. See also Chase sings and Chaseycha ch.
Chase absolutely kills it on this song. Sultry voice and a lot of soul. I'm a big fan of this group.
See also Chase sings channel for a nice collection of solo performances.
Come on all ... this is probably the BEST recording from the Foxes and Fossils. Who is with me in this observation ... I cannot get enough of this recording ... GREAT!
AGREE !!!! THEIR BEST !!!!
Agreed!
This is a great piece of music, best they've ever done and that's saying something, I can listen to their stuff over and over again but this is beyond superb, btw I'm a 66yr old who's seen and heard just about everyone worth seeing, these people are up there, long may it continue.
Their Harvest Moon is up there with this one.
This and Harvest moon
WOW is all i have to say !! WOW WOW WOW
I live this version so much, I have chosen it to be played at my funeral. To me the light of the world is Jesus and Jesus is love.
Damn. Me too... 👍 Beautiful song
I agree
Amen. Christ is King.
The whole gang did a great job on this one. Chase took it to a spiritual level.
Chase is the answer!!!
OK good, but if love is the answer and JESUS is love , then JESUS is the answer.
Little did Todd know he was writing this song for Chase....its hers....just the perfect voice and sound .....with great back up and arrangements...it really doesn't get any better by any group or singer..you all bring much enjoyment to us all. thank you so much for your efforts.
I love these guys but I heard Todd sing it with the Utopia guys. Todd wrote it and always sings it the best.
@@johns.4331 you are deaf
I do agree the writer of the song own's it. F&F made it into an argument.
Really loved the vibe here - I can hear it more as a Rundgren sound than when England Dan a Don Ford Coley covered it back in the day. There's a lot mor angst, emotion.
So well said sweetie! Todd did write it for her and for us to hear it today! What a blessing to share gifts for so many to enjoy!!!
Beautiful . Todd would be proud .
Doubtless he's heard and loved it.
You tube should start like a Emmy Awards for song covers. If this cover wouldn’t be at the top of the list something would be wrong.
Chase holding the note at 4:10-4:21 brings tears!
Chills
And Tim Purcell needs to be credited as to how he has delivered, over and over again on covers as good or better than the originals. So much great music has been written but can be updated. Hope some corp recognizes his talents and does something special!
Agreed!
I was brought to Fox and Fossils via the Mustangs' cover of "Penny Lane." The best cover I've ever heard of anything from Magical Mystery Tour. Tim is such a talent, not only in musicianship and skillful production, but being the person and role model to bring talented people together, young and old, and offer such fine and creative musical covers. Hats off to all...You guys rock!
The hidden genius.
Tim is a super old school musician. I'm a 52 year playing 66 yr. old drummer who knows a great setup when I see it. My band of just old Fossils play even today, weddings, funerals and frat parties.
💯 !!!!!!
Todd Rundgren wrote this song for chase, 40 plus years ago...but neither of them knew it! The perfect choice for the perfect voice!
The production, blending, and subtle crescendo makes this so brilliant!
Chase is so smooth on her vocals
This song honestly doesn't get done any better than this, period.
Except when England Dan sings it.............
I’m not sure people ever appreciated Todd Rundgren for the quality of his music. This is a lovely rendition!
You are absolutely 100% correct! One of the most underappreciated geniuses ever!
Todd Rundgren gets a lot of appreciation for his music. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Todd Rundgren is VERY much appreciated, not under appreciated
I wonder if he has heard this cover and what he thinks about it.
Wtf - I did 😢😢😢😢😢😢
At 2:47 watch Sammi closing her eyes and just feeling the music come to her but holding off on background vocals, but just after that she kicks and elevates the harmony to an insane level. What a voice!
When I get to low, or to tight, I play this cover to set me right.
I'm a 58 year old man and this made me cry. Unbelievable performance of a song with a message that is both timeless and timely.
I'm 70 and did the same. What a beautiful cover.
Same here at 52.

I am a 60 year old music lover and have been all my life and it was an absolute pleasure to find F & F on you tube
But that voice of hers... perfection!
That young lady is a soul sister, she just didn't know it till she sang this song.
Tim Purcell is the luckiest SOB on the planet! How in the hell can one man assemble this much AMAZING talent into one band. I'm a musician and I've started a few club bands over the years, (Chicagoland area), and while I've worked with some good musicians and singers, none came even close to this. F&F is world class all the way!
They originally started when Maggie and Sammie were 15, just as a way to get a little extra cash for the girls for college, they added Chase when she was 15, when Maggie went off to college, he never expected that they would become as popular as they are now, I really think the pandemic has really helped them become even more successful because being quarantined people have been on here more than ever before.
Tim doesn’t get enough credit for mixing and production of this amazing group.
Agree
@@Szmanzer Tim said when Scott sent him this bass track he listened to it separately first and wondered 'what's going on with Scott anyway?" Then he added it to the song and said 'Wow, he's come with some things that Id never even think of, and it works!"
One guy once said, if you are going to do a cover, either make it your own or do it spot on. They do both here.
Chase has such a powerful voice.
I said before that there are no bad covers by F&F, only varying degrees of “damn that was awesome.” Now I have to come up with another word because “awesome” seems woefully inadequate.
Well Stated!!
How about "FanTabulous" which means they are beyond Fantastic and Fabulous, My made up word.
I guess you haven’t heard the Billy Joel cover 👎
I find myself saying WOW through my tears of appreciation.
Patrick H, perfect. “Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the Fantabulous Foxes and Fossils!!!
Why aren't these guys world famous? Their singing techniques - close harmony, breath control, dynamics - are astonishing
They are world famous.

Chase has a Karen Carpenter quality in her voice, smooth, effortless and lovely. Gotta love these beautiful people.
Chase did a pretty good solo on this cover of a Bonnie Raitt song as well if you haven't seen it yet. ruclips.net/video/gC8i_-t38SY/видео.html
@@sheepdog4268 You are very right. Thanks for the tip.
Chase's contralto voice here is freakin' awesome. Sammie, Maggie, and Chase all have different qualities in their vocal range which just makes the songs they sing so much more than 'just a cover'!
Chase is awesome. The entire group is. But this song sung by Chase with her voice is so smooth and so fun to listen to over and over and over honestly. I like this version better than Todd Rundgren’s version and I do love that song.
Agree!
Over and over fosho👍
Beauty,!
Chase really shows her extreme range on this song ...beautiful !
His song has never been done better. This is the number one version.
Sorry, England Dan and John Ford does it the best.Period..............
Danny it's a great song and will sound incredible by any talented band, but better than England Dan and John Ford Coley??? No way.
Chase just gets better and better. Someone needs to sign her in a record contract!
No!!! Then she would leave the group. I hope they all keep playing together until their fingers fall off! That said - I'm happy to pay for the music I love to hear.
This band is not the same without any of these vocalist. They have found a blend that would make anyone have an ear gasm!
@Mario Lopez I do radio and it's amazing to me how fast this has happened. In about 5 years, more than half of the music I play is independently released (i.e. from the band's own web site or their streaming accounts) rather than through a label. Bands have found out that they might sell half teh number of songs they used to with a label, but they get to keep most of the money and they dont have label weenies telling them what they have to sing and what they have to wear etc.
Chase is a woman coming into her own.her best performance so far. So tastefully done by the whole group.
When F&F did a cover of Mamas and the Papas, "Say a Little Prayer" I thought how are they gonna hit those powerful high notes by Cass Elliot? Chase did it. But, Here's the big question, why was she out front on this softly delicate tune?
OK, I'll admit it. Once upon a time, Chase was "the new Fox". After hearing this rendition... Damn, Girl. You a Fox!
This Lady can sing!
Chase Truran .See also 'Chase sings' and 'Chaseycha' channels.
Damn, Chase, you give me the chills with your performance on this song.
53 yr old man crying like a baby because of this. Beautiful song by Todd, superlative cover by F&F. Nice when you think of all the great covers Todd did on his Faithful album.
Chase has a great voice. Let's hear more from her, please!
SPEACHLESS! Lump in my throat and flutters in my soul! OUTSTANDING!!!! XXXOOO
I wonder if you really know how special this is? Whenever I am having a low day, I come back to it.
she has the range of a Mama Cass. fantastic

Chase is a world-class singer. And, of course, F&F is the best cover band in the world.
Amazing!
amen amen
@@curtiscockenberg5870 Wow . imagine if they came upon an original never published or sang song? Fear is the answer.
Satisfaction is The Word . . After hearing THIS rendition!! They are So Much Appreciated!!!
@@jaytomson7052 What they did with "Telling Me Lies" was take an obscure song from 35 years ago and brought it back to life in a big way. The Ronstadt-Parton-Harris trio made one notable recording of it back then, but few other covers have gotten much interest until now. The songwriter herself even weighed in on it favorably, on their Facebook group.
Second best next to Leonid and Friends ... but it’s a close second.
Probably the most technically perfect ear candy in the F&F catalog. Tough but absolutely perfect harmony, and good god can Chase sing!
Chase literally puts herself in a class with Whitney and Mariah when she hits/holds that note from 4:12 thru 4:22. Absolute perfection!
See Georgia on My Mind on Chase sings channel for another example. 4.10 thru 4.26.
Ooh! That was good! Thanks for drawing my attention it.
Couldnt agree with you more...she adds so much to this band
Wowooo?
Listen to Chase on Goodbye Yellow Brick Road from about 2:55 to 3:15. Truly powerful vocals.
Todd Rundgren is a genius Chase you made this song be reborn again well done all
Her voice is like butter.
If Chase had put any more into this song emotionally she would have burst. Supreme.
This is medicine for the soul. Simply one of the best produced songs, ever.
Hard to improve on Todd Rundgren. But I think they've done it!
I like that....."Medicine for the soul!" So true! :-)
This should be sung everywhere in America! We need this.
Especially in Blue Zones

@@nancysmith8095 Sadly, "red zones" would never think, much less say, that "love is the answer"
I think we just need to throw half the country out!
The “foxes” certainly have three distinctly different vocal styles. Chase is emerging with her powerful voice. Blend them plus the Fossils and the harmonies are world class.
And each with their own styles makes each one my favorite. When Maggie sings, she is always my favorite, when Sammie sings, she controls and captures our hearts, and when Chase sings, well when she sings "kiss me under the light of a thousand stars", I actually feel my heart flutter.
@@JLH1956 So right my friend....and to let one's heart flutter, instead of being cold and unfeeling, is something special.
Yes they have distinctive voices yet when they harmonize the result is heavenly
I’ve commented on this before, but I want to comment again. This band is incredible. And, in this instance, the most incredible performance is that of Chase. It’s almost unbelievable what she is able to do worth her voice. That note she holds toward the very end is amazing. Amazing! How she can hold it for so long and stay in key and not sound like she’s straining is, well, incredible. I’m not a person of many words, and you can see I use the same words frequently, but I was so moved by this performance. I’ve found it moving every time I’ve watched, but never this much. Perhaps it’s the state of the world we’re in. I don’t know. But thank you, Chase, and all the Foxes and Fossils, for giving this fossil a shred of hope. ❤️
Partly inherited. Chase's grandmother was a Broadway and opera singer, I understand her mother is also a very good singer. That and working to make use of the wonderful talent she's been given. She loves to sing.
@@lynwessel2471 Lyn, I have to come back to this song every so often to get BELTED by Chase. Amazing power!
@@robertbates6057 I could never choose a favorite, but I listen to this one as much any.
@@lynwessel2471 it’s my favorite, hand down!
I've listened to this performance over and over. From 4:10 to 4:20, I can't detect Chase sneaking a single breath, and it's not as if she's holding one pitch - she's modulating. It blows me away every single time I hear it. Unbelievable!
Did someone say..sheesh..Todd Rundgren needs to hear this phenom…incredible ..and all the rest of the available adjectives…🇨🇦

I think I've listened to this at least 15 times in the past month!
Getting my fix again....
She absolutely does!! Wow!! What a voice!! I am addicted to this song!!
Wow.
She really knows how to throw in those "just right" embellishments and runs without ever overdoing anything -- many older singers could learn from her! The held note and slow run from 4:10 - 4:21 is sublime!
Her voice is like a rich maple syrup. It just ozzzes out perfectly. The backup singing is just perfect-not to much, just right.
Agreed I have listened to this no less then 20 times. Her voice is so unique and one of a kind. It’s a awesome song I love her pitch power and pace. All on point😃👍👍👍

I think I’ve seen Todd 60 or 65 times over the years, and I’ve never seen a cover band/tribute band/just a group of honestly great musicians, do his work any greater justice.
Tim Purcell - “never put up anything that isn’t better...” man, you guy’s outdid yourselves again!
And how. Wow!

Tim Purcell is a genius.
Not a weak spot anywhere. And how in the world does Chase hold that note at 4:10 for approximately 10 seconds? I've listened to this over and over, and I cannot detect her sneaking a breath anywhere. It astounds me every time I hear it.

Now that we are entering very troubling times in the world, I am listening to this almost every day. ❤
Anyone not getting goosebumps with Chase killing it at 4:10 should go ahead and get in the hearse. There is no way that there is a singer alive that could do a performance any better than that. Chase, best job ever based on all of those found of you on the RUclipss. Congrats, great job.

She gives me goose bumps. I love when she sings the verse "kiss me under the light of a thousand stars". That melts me.
Yep, what a voice!!
Chase has......IT!
The words that come to mind for 4:10 - 4:20 are mind-boggling and jaw-dropping.
It takes a tremendous talent to be able to be admitted to the pantheon of F&F, but Chase deserves ever bit of reward for her presence.
Tim was going to fold the group in late 2014 when Maggie was unable to continue due to having to commute from Nashville for gigs. Scott said "What about Chase?" He and Tim had heard her in a high school music production. (Amy from the Mustangs was her music teacher.) Thru Amy they met Chase and her parents and she joined the group at age 15.
Tim and Scott saw Chase singing at her high school in a performance of "The Sound of Music", and Chase was Mother Superior. Imagine that voice singing "Climb Every Mountain". There are photos! Whether there's a recording is irrelevant. What we did get out of that was Scott suggesting adding her as a Fox to keep the project going.
This is probably the best version of this song I have heard…praise the Lord for his love of us!
So true
This song with Chase's magic is purely unbeatable!!!
What Chase does at 4:06 is unreal. Gives me chills and makes me smile.

Chase is truly remarkable
Chase hits it out of the park again.
Chase was the new girl when she was 15 .. the same for Maggie and Sammie .. Tim and Darwin go back to 1980 together and their group cut one album .. Tim is the mastermind behind the F&F group with the musical arrangements and harmonies all developed so each members strengths are emphasized .. without individual egos .. Tim and all members have higher production standards than the music industry at large and it's obvious when you look and listen at their recording history
