      I don’t like being a hypocrite, but I just had to make this video, seeing as I’ve been criticized so much in the past before when I never claimed to be doing the “Devon lift”
      Unfortunately Derek just happened to be the example for this video, nothing personal against the guy.

    Form only matters for counting a PR. And with that it’s not really accurate to compare numbers as for millimeters of variance in angles can make for up to 20% difference in weight. If I’m doing the Devon lift where the inside of my elbow is at the same height as my hand I can hit 120-130lbs. If my elbow and hand are parallel it’s about 105-110. Riser is was more drastic

    Good analysis but in your own 57KG lift the forearm is not parallel to the ground, it has almost a 45° angle when the weight starts moving, I know you said you are ok with that but your problem with Derek's lift is that it's way too easy, at the core it doesn't fully target the pronator. The same thing is true about yours, you did 57KG but since the angle was so ample it means you probably can't lift 50kg off the ground with a parallel forearm, and also the pronator at that angle is no more fully targeted too, so in the end you are both doing it fundamentally wrong and in a decisive way or you are both doing it ok : P
    I think the objective answer is that your lift is not legit and 57KG are not comparable to the strength standards, you can train it however you want but if you want to use a table that has been created with weights based on a certain form, you cannot use as comparison an execution that makes the movement easier otherwise your numbers will be inflated, in the google sheet of the strength standards there is this exact disclaimer at the beginning. That's probably part of the reason why people are so surprised about your pronation lift results, they may be comparing it with the harder exectutions, it could also explain why your pronator doesn't fail before your back pressure, it's could be because you are unloading half of the load off it with the 45° angle
    Anyway keep up the good work!

      Hi man, I get what you’re saying, but I think it misses the main point of this video: Neither me nor Derek were doing the Devon lift. We were doing our own versions of a backpressure/static pronation lift.

    To be fair, Derek's forearm is very long and what may appear to be halfway down your forearm, is probably just partially down his haha. I think you slightly exaggerated the level of tilt upwards and the degree to which the strap was low. And if I was being hypercritical of your first lift, I would say that from any angle for a posting back pressure/pronation style lift, your elbow and fist should be in a perpendicular line relative to the downward force to get the most accurate result. In a match however, it is important to recognize this leverage point that Travis Bagent even talks about of having your elbow ahead of your fist as much as you can for the most power. Do the lifts with a fair setup, but cheating the lifts can also teach you how to cheat the setup. ;)

    • @EastsideArmWrestling
      @EastsideArmWrestling  3 месяца назад

      I could’ve done the lift again, I never tired this variation before the one time I recorded it in this video, but the ease with which it went up tells me I could’ve done it too, even with a more parallel angle/higher strap. On top of that, I noticed that Derek’s one also started with a high angle, it’s just that his arm opening up was what caused it to become more parallel toward the end.
      That being said, none of that matters as the main point of the video is to say that neither of what we did were Devon lifts. And Devon telling Derek that his lift was legit is just misleading.
