I remember wrapping my 360 in 3 bath towels and was instructed to leave it on in those 3 towels for 15 minutes and it actually fixed my red rings for a year.
The 360 era was the last great push for video game technology as a whole in my opinion. It was the last time (in my life) that games elevated to a whole new level that we had never imagined or seen before. Games during that time were constantly pushing boundaries and introducing game mechanics that are all but normal now adays. Very happy to have grown into my gaming habit during that time

It's crazy how so many XBox 360 owners had the RROD. I still have my launch 360 and still play it almost everyday, and it still runs just perfectly fine. I dropped it three times, stepped on it and even sat on it by accident. No issues at all.
I'd say the XBox 360 is my favorite console by far. Comfortable controllers, reasonable processing power, great game selection, fantastic era for games, etc.
My 360 red ringed right before I went away to college when I was 18 and I was almost glad because I wouldn’t have studied at all or had any social life if I brought it with me. The 360 was my LIFE in high school. Easily the greatest video game console behind PS2/GameCube
I remember working at Microsoft and attending a preview of the 360 before it was launched, the pre release controller was different - the shoulder buttons specifically. Just watching the demo of Project Gotham Racing made me pre-order one.
I really like my Xbox 360. Edit: That Cars thing is just a failed platinum trophy copy. Edit 2: the original Xbox 360 design still looks a little bit like an X. You just have to use your imagination.

No way I'm buying fourteen different consoles just because I want to be able to play all the games I like. I literally couldn't hold it for any decent amount of time without hand cramps because that battery back was in the way. No other xbox controller had that problem.
i remember having the red ring on my 360 s, i had the red ring, i got confused so i unplugged the console and replugged it in and it turned on and worked fine, and thats the only time i got it, if i didnt leave my controller at my uncles house last summer i would probably still be playing it
If only . . . the "X" button was like . . . say maybe RED?! Instead of blue. You know--as in "no/back/stop/close" etc,--. . . instead of the "B" button being red instead of blue . . . . Can not play Xbox due to this.
I really like #4 how you mention the internet connectivity comment !! Its forgotten how many gamers still don't have consistent high speed internet. When just buying a new game, internet is required to install a game and then it will probably have an update before you can play. Then most games will continue to release updates. And ofcorse the single player part of game is shrinking as the online parts takes over.
I love this console, it was my 2nd after my Wii. I got the slim version from 2010. And I still have it lying about in the attic, I seriously need to find it.

The achievement thing shows the importance of exceptions. If they'd just made it so that the final achievement needed you to get all _other_ achievements (i.e. how PS's Platinum Trophies work) then there'd be no problem.
I still love the original design of the xbox 360. Loved the top loading hdd, the removeable faceplate, and the dual concavity design. It was such a great system. Its too bad all Microsoft does now is shitty looking boxes....
I waited for 24hrs outside of a Best Buy in freezing cold conditions for a 360 launch system. It still works, I think my CPU must have gotten soldered back together with weed resin. There is no other good reason for it to work. I went through 3 Halo 2 discs though, eventually they would crack around the hole and spread across the disc till it didn't work. After like idk maybe 5,000 hrs I'm guessing.😀
The 360 not sure if they all had this issue but a lot had really crappy disc drives that in my case alone destroyed 5-6 copies of NFS: Carbon, they even at one point offered replacements for games that suffered the smudge but they were all either a previous iteration of a current game or was a game nobody bought.
Here’s an interesting fact. The Xbox One is tracking to sell 30m less than the 360 did in lifetime sales. It went toe to toe with the PS3 all the way. Incredible squandering of all that momentum this gen. The 360 was a great machine with great games and my goodness did MS balls it up.
I would definitely believe that many were defective. I think I had about four XB360s go on me in that era, most friends losing at least one. After that, I said 'fuck it' and moved to Sony. Very happy I made the move given how the current gen has gone on each side. Blessing in disguise really

@@SynthMusicWorld Same as Switch. It was slated to have 2 gigs, but one of the larger studios (Capcom) got them to bump it to 4 because their RE Engine wouldn't otherwise run. At least MS did 512Mb correctly, as a single CPU+GPU pool instead of sony's stupid 50/50 split which led to games like skyrim taking upwards of 10 minutes to load a save late into the game as data was panic-switched into and out of RAM and the HDD.
I remember that I had dilemma when I was 10 I think. I wanted PS3 like crazy but since it was really expensive and I couldn't modchip the console (yeaaah, people in Poland made 200-300 dollars a month and parents couldn't afford the games...) I was thinking of getting Xbox 360. I was so close to buying one but then one PS3 popped up on Polish equivalent of eBay, Allegro for the price of 360. Well, guess you all know how it went. No, I didn't install CFW on it. Grandma from US was sending me games. I'm really greatful she did. After all these years I have 360 as well but it's just too late.
I had the RROD 5 times - i'd get one replaced on warranty, play it for a day or two, rrod, return it, get another, rrod, rinse, repeat. I swear I developed PTSD over it.
I had a cosole give me RROD. It was partially my fault for cluttering the surroundings of the vents. I went on a repair spree and bought up many RROD consoles for cheap and fixing them. I was repairing about 75 percent of them. It was around 2012 and I tried everything from the oven to the penny to soldering.

Xbox 360 was originally designed to have 256MB of ram, but was doubled late into the design.
If I remember correctly, Bethesda had something to do with it as they needed more RAM for Elder Scrolls: Oblivion.
