Some people feel like Kotoko is lucky to have Naoki since he is good at everything and she is good at nothing. But we look at it at a different perspective Naoki is really lucky to have Kotoko. Rare girls can bear his always seemingly uninterested and sometimes even rude attitude and his very very poor communication skills. They are lucky to find each other.
Naoki's mom is everything in this series, I can't imagine how the series is going to be without his mother. Need his mother's scenes as many as possible :)
One thing that I really love about Naoki is.. He never be ashame introducing Kotoko as his wife. Since many people see her as a clumsy and unattractive girl, but still Naoki always proudly tells everyone that she is his wife. He looks like loves the way Kotoko is.... And accepts whatever the way she is... Love him so much ♥♥
But that's like...the BARE minimum, isn't it? No partner should be ashamed to introduce someone as their partner. It's weird to compliment him saying, "Oh, he actually tells people that's his wife!" because...why wouldn't he?

I think it's pretty normal for Kotoko to always doubt Naoki's love for her, since we all know how difficult it was for Kotoko to finally win Naoki's heart. So she keep thinking that Naoki's feeling for her is temporary and can be changed in sudden

i like that Kin-chan actually reacts how a normal person would do in the real world he now seems like an angry brother whose sister is being mistreated. the father says Naoki is working hard but that doesn't mean you don't contact your newlywed wife
I dont blame Kotoko at all for that. Imagine your husband keeps putting off legalizing your marriage then he says some mess like "I won't be home for a while" with no futher explanation. You would think he was having second thoughts. He didnt even call her after that, then got mad when she got upset.

I just notice the part that naoki is up for a couple of days or weeks but when he just hug kotoko just for a few seconds, he suddenly fell asleep. It seems like he's so comfortable to her.

Honestly a lot of people don't understand irie's character. Yes he's all blunt, seems rude, doesn't communicate, and is always quiet. But you can't blame him. That's how he's always been. He just doesn't know how to express his feelings and can't talk about his emotions so it seems like he doesn't care. But the dude loves kotoko like crazy. He's honestly so thoughtful, sweet, adorable, a worried husband, and honestly has a really kind soul. He's not ashamed of her and would proudly say she's his wife even though no one would believe it. He married her for a reason. Not cuz he felt bad but because he realized that he actually needs her. He even said it one time. For him to be himself he needs kotoko by his side. So y'all cut him some slack. Before I used to hate him sooo much but when I recently rewatched season 2, I actually saw the real him and how much of a character development he got. Also he said one time. "Kotoko doesn't seem to know my love for her" he loves her, just doesn't know how to express it. But you can see he's improving. He hugs her, comforts her, kisses her. Please he turned from a fucking jerk that I wanted to slap to someone that is so adorable and is such a huge baby. I mean he literally got jealous and didn't even know that he did and because of that he wasn't in his correct mind. The dude always got #1 on his tests but because he was fighting with his wife, he did very bad on his test for the first time. Shows how much he was bothered and confused and annoyed and how much impact kotoko had on him. I love him so much!!
Disagree. I think hes selfish. Hes only affectionate with Kotoko when he feels like it or think that someone is gonna steal her away, and usually its after making her upset. He makes it clear to her and others around her that he thinks shes stupid, and never defends her, which honesty for me is my biggest nightmare should I ever get married. He ignores her on a regular basis. It annoys me how he can never seem to carry a pleasant conversation with her. Hes either rude to her, dismissive or hes kissing her once she's fed up.

Naoki really loves kotoko but he doesn’t show it often because he doesn’t like to show much affection and doesn’t know how to express them well but when he does it’s always very sweet and heart warming.While kotoko knows how to express her love to Naoki throughout. I think they both match so well with each other cause kotoko brings out the feelings that Naoki couldn’t feel which is love and jealousy.
When naoki introduced kotoko as his wife with his surname on it but kotoko was still hesitant so she only introduced herself as kotoko. Naoki's reaction was priceless. He doesn't want Kotoko to doubt his feelings for her.
Everyone misunderstood Naoki about not legalizing their marriage. But in my opinion, the reason he didn't legalize it at first was because Firstly , He decided to help his father's company first and only after then ,marry Kototo( S1 ep16). It was his first decision.(You know he is being responsible here, being the eldest son of the household) But his mother didn't respect his decision and did all she wanted ,holding a wedding ceremony, without giving prior notice. Secondly, would you marry off your beloved one to a household that is failing financially and with debts ? No , right? This is the same for Naoki. Though they didn't show that in a drama, technically their company and their house isn't financially stable at that time. So as a Man who loves Kotoko dearly, it is his sense of responsibility to first become an eligible man for her to get married to and only after that, OFFICIALLY welcome her to the household. He didn't want Kotoko to become a wife of a man with debts. Not legalizing their marriage , that was his act of LOVE. But sadly, Kotoko couldn't see that and us viewers too.

Naoki is very aware of the Japanese codes of conduct. PDA's are only done in private for the most part. He does not kiss her or put his arm around her unless no one else is around. I don't even think he reaches for her hand to hold while they are walking. She always grabs his arm, which I think he's happy she does, because it reassures him that she loves him, and also keeps other women from coming up and harassing him. The picture in the hallway of them kissing on the beach for him is like someone invading his privacy. Sometimes he acts like an old grandpa!

yep im 13 watching this for the first time and damn, Naoki is a red flag. Sure he is sweet and rlly loves Kotoko, but there is definitely no reason for all the things he’s doing just because he’s “like that” he def has to change that quality abt himself. However, kotoko also has her own flaws aswell. She can make naoki rlly uncomfy sometimes, and stalked and disturbed the heck out of Naoki’s life. But, i havent watched the whole thing yet, so, ill depend on character development. Good show though, its so addicting 😭

As per the manga, Kotoko is supposed to be an average looking person whereas Naoki is portrayed as someone very handsome and intelligent. Also people tend to make a judgement of the other people. So, when there are people who know Naoki for his intelligence and looks, they automatically assume that someone like him will have a really smart and intelligent wife. But when they realise that Kotoko is not as smart as him rather not even close to him in matter of intelligence, so they find it a little difficult to accept her as his wife. I do agree that the actress playing Kotoko is really pretty.

The version from Taiwan actually has an even softer ML in Zhi Shu. He is always touching her, kissing her, and there for her; even in S1 they were more like friends before they officially got together. I would put Naoki as a little behind Zhi Shu when it comes to showing how much he loves FL.

It's true Kotoko went through a long journey to win Naoki, but it didn't change the fact that he is the one who proposed and initiate the commitment. True Naoki lack in communication, but as a wife who have stayed in the family for many years, she should understand his nature and not expect to change his personality right away. ( This is also I said to those who blame Naoki for this) Shigeo put it in very nice words, "If not you, who will understand him." As for her insecurity, nobody can resolve it, unless she herself work on it. Even if suddenly Naoki change his behaviour like Kinosuke, it would still not help. Throughout this series, this is the only one of all the versions that Show how Naoki's changed from a person who is cold, care's only for himself, smart jerk, selfish and undeniably bad personality to a person that care's to the person he loves, treasures their memories and relationship without others seeing, respects other persons, In other prospective they don't understand him, one in a million chances that there's a person understand Naoki, that person understands him better, other people says he is a jerk but two questions may i ask, why is he being like that?Do you know the reason? No or maybe Yes, no one knows
_"Naoki must have his reasons..."_ Everytime Kotoko's in a pickle, its always her who needs to be understanding. For years, Naoki was misleading her and gaslighting her, so doubt will always come forward to her, and now as his wife, she is in every right to question things. She even was informed via phone call only, speaking to her in no way like a wife. We all know as viewers what Naoki is doing, but if you were in the shoes of Kotoko, who has always been treated by the society as less than your husband, and have no idea what he is doing as Naoki failed to inform you properly, then you will definitely worry. Action speaks louder than words, but that doesn't mean communication is not as important, especially in a healthy relationship. Kotoko on the other hand sure have her reasons why she is full of doubt because of their nature for years, but she should have just ask Naoki himself to clarify things- but I think that's too tiring to see as a viewer because relationship should involves two person and both of them need to participate and put effort. All this time its always her who takes a step that is why she can't move on from being the 'one-sided lady in love'. Naoki, once again, owe her an apology for being such a douche. Plus, imagine having a partner and says *"I'm not expecting anything from you".* We all know she isn't the brightest, but like I said, if you want your relationship to last and be healthy, both need to participate as you two are partners that supposed to be 'equals'. People keep giving Naoki gatepass just because he is the hot main lead, his feelings are genuine, and we can see bits of his POV because we are the watcher, but as a man and a husband, in terms of real life situation, he definitely have a lot of work to fix. Second season and he is still not any better, dang. It's also sad that his father is not on her side at that time, and another plus points again for Kin-chan as he is now more acting like a big brother.
Irie keeps throwing mean and hurtful words towards Kotoko, making Kotoko in pain and cry,... however, she still runs back to him everytime he apologizes and is nice to her again, and Kotoko bounces back right away.. wierdly so relatable to me. lol I guess the more someone hurts you, the more you stay with them? wierd.,
At first I wasn't really convinced in watching this show, because to me Yuki's face looks more like a kid than kakkoi, plus his character was detestable in the first season. However I do have to say he was BORN for this role! He plays it so perfectly - a cool, smart, calm, mysterious kind of guy. The girl is also good for the role, even though I'm still finding it hard to see chemistry between them. The show is really funny though so I find it really addicting! :D Plus, they finally found an actor that can speak fluent English on cue without a strong japanese accent like in most other doramas xD
Naoki could have explain to Kotoko in the beginning the reason he wanted to wait a little more before registering their marriage. That could have save a lot of misunderstandings and troubles between them. He could have also called Kotoko to check up on her, or told her why he can’t come home for several days. His family need to know the reason or else they will worry about him a lot. I cannot blame Kotoko for being anxious. After all, she was the one who chased him, so she must have worried that he could lose his feelings for her anytime. When she wanted to see him, he told her he could not see her but did not disclose the reason why. And when she finally saw him, he told her to leave and that it’s okay because their marriage is not official. He really hurt Kotoko’s feelings here. Kotoko’s dad even told her to not be selfish and to think for Naoki, but I don’t agree with him. Naoki was the one who is being selfish here: not coming home for days, told her to leave, suddenly showed up and pulled her to his dad company with no explanation (even though it is a good surprise, but he could have said something so that Kotoko won’t be confused and get nervous), just casually walked to the office and signed the marriage form. All of these could been done better if Naoki actually communicates what was on his mind. Even though he did explain in the end, Kotoko still had to went through the “worry” phrase.
As a married woman, I rather agree with Kotoko's father. If she's not ready to face this type of hurdles, better don't agree to marry him from beginning. She should understand him better, and not just expected their marriage life will always in pink colour. Therefore I like the way her father see the situation in realistic POV and make her understand the real challenge of married life. And finally his father's words is true. Sometimes, out of situation, we can't just communicate everything right away, especially if it's not your character. Therefore to trust and try to understand your partner situation is highly important in married life. What Naoki did here is not out of selfishness, but he wanted to settle everything right in the place before they moved to the next step. He even literally said that, when he proposed her in front of their family. What he did is for their future. And though it looks like "just casually registered their marriage" in your eyes, but for Kotoko's POV it's more than enough to make her feel the butterfly. I can understand why she sticks with him despite his seemingly cold behaviour. Because when he does expressed his feelings and love, it's feel more deep, special, and precious.

It would only lead to anxiousness. But I do agree with you that sometimes there is no time to communicate with your partner right away. (Nonetheless, this issues is a big misunderstanding and should be solved as soon as possible, or else it will lead to anxiety for the other party). However, Naoki could have at least make a short phone call to Kotoko, letting her know that he simply can’t come home because he was working on a project. This should only take him 2-5 minutes. I’m not married, but I know that marriage is hard. It takes both sides for a marriage to work and last long.

Honestly a lot of people don't understand irie's character. Yes he's all blunt, seems rude, doesn't communicate, and is always quiet. But you can't blame him. That's how he's always been. He just doesn't know how to express his feelings and can't talk about his emotions so it seems like he doesn't care. But the dude loves kotoko like crazy. He's honestly so thoughtful, sweet, adorable, a worried husband, and honestly has a really kind soul. He's not ashamed of her and would proudly say she's his wife even though no one would believe it. He married her for a reason. Not cuz he felt bad but because he realized that he actually needs her. He even said it one time. For him to be himself he needs kotoko by his side. So y'all cut him some slack. Before I used to hate him sooo much but when I recently rewatched season 2, I actually saw the real him and how much of a character development he got. Also he said one time. "Kotoko doesn't seem to know my love for her" he loves her, just doesn't know how to express it. But you can see he's improving. He hugs her, comforts her, kisses her. Please he turned from a fucking jerk that I wanted to slap to someone that is so adorable and is such a huge baby. So, when there are people who know Naoki for his intelligence and looks, they automatically assume that someone like him will have a really smart and intelligent wife. But when they realise that Kotoko is not as smart as him rather not even close to him in matter of intelligence, so they find it a little difficult to accept her as his wife.

Kotokos amazing character manages to soften a little bit of Naoki's coldness ....but if you are such a wonderful person like kotoko is, and you find a guy like this in your path, just run as fast as you can ! He will destroy your self esteem at the speed of light! You end up collecting pieces of youself and trying to put them together in order to somehow still function. Yes he might not know how to express himself , but guys, it is never acceptable the level of disrespect that he shows towards Kotoko- He likes her, but does he love her? not yet. Love does not do that, even when it does not know how to express itself, When it does, and you notice how hurt their so called 'loved' person is, you go to that person and say or show, that you are sorry for causing pain. It is not about being right or wrong, it's about loving yourself and loving others. Respect does not enter on Naokis vocabulary! He does not seem rude - He IS RUDE !
Kotokos character - innocent pure and almost angelic is a easy prey for narcissists. She should definitely work on her self Love. Girl trust yourself. Her Vibrancy and Beauty is contagious. Such a Beautiful Character.
I don't think neider Kotoko or Naoki are lucky in such a relationship. Did he really behave like that on their Honeymoon? He actually was kinda of letting that girl flirt with him and not going back to Kotokos side. Did he really said that he does not need someone like her on his side? Did he really said that he still needed to think about registering their marriage after Their Honeymoon? I am sorry, does he love her? Girl you rn away from that registering! I don't think he sees her as being part of the equation....... is like he lives in Amnesia, now he likes her and apreciates who she is , and the next moment she is too much and he is constantly needing some time out.....And there she is, always on the call, like a ping pong ball being thrown here and there as it is covenient to him.....and then he kisses her after some eternety of ignoring her and that is ok? Common, thats sickned behavoiur and should be properly treated . Because she will, for sure, be needing some treament in the future.

Like i said before, for entertainment purposes is ok, i kinda find it funny...... but unfortunately i have observed in this Japanese series ( also Korean and asia in general) That the rude male character is somehow praised and appreciated, and for some unknown reason found to be attractive, like an unreacheble Demi-God .... and they are of course the intelligent ones! While the female character can only be praised by her submissive nature, extraordinary sweetness and goodness. Of course, their brains are in general lethargic state, but thank god they have amazing Hearts !!! They are so Lucky that This so called Demi-God even glanced at her. DUHHHHHHHHH..........( I wonder if this is not brainwashing the young generations )
Don't get me wrong , i love Asian cinematography, but the constant theme of narcissism, bulling and status superiority kind of annoys me. Too bad they still did not let go of it.

It's true Kotoko went through a long journey to win Naoki, but it didn't change the fact that he is the one who proposed and initiate the commitment.
True Naoki lack in communication, but as a wife who have stayed in the family for many years, she should understand his nature and not expect to change his personality right away. ( This is also I said to those who blame Naoki for this)

Everytime Kotoko's in a pickle, its always her who needs to be understanding. For years, Naoki was misleading her and gaslighting her, so doubt will always come forward to her, and now as his wife, she is in every right to question things. She even was informed via phone call only, speaking to her in no way like a wife. We all know as viewers what Naoki is doing, but if you were in the shoes of Kotoko, who has always been treated by the society as less than your husband, and have no idea what he is doing as Naoki failed to inform you properly, then you will definitely worry. Action speaks louder than words, but that doesn't mean communication is not as important, especially in a healthy relationship.
Kotoko on the other hand sure have her reasons why she is full of doubt because of their nature for years, but she should have just ask Naoki himself to clarify things- but I think that's too tiring to see as a viewer because relationship should involves two person and both of them need to participate and put effort. All this time its always her who takes a step that is why she can't move on from being the 'one-sided lady in love'.
Naoki, once again, owe her an apology for being such a douche. Plus, imagine having a partner and says *"I'm not expecting anything from you".* We all know she isn't the brightest, but like I said, if you want your relationship to last and be healthy, both need to participate as you two are partners that supposed to be 'equals'.
People keep giving Naoki gatepass just because he is the hot main lead, his feelings are genuine, and we can see bits of his POV because we are the watcher, but as a man and a husband, in terms of real life situation, he definitely have a lot of work to fix. Second season and he is still not any better, dang. It's also sad that his father is not on her side at that time, and another plus points again for Kin-chan as he is now more acting like a big brother.

Irie keeps throwing mean and hurtful words towards Kotoko, making Kotoko in pain and cry,... however, she still runs back to him everytime he apologizes and is nice to her again, and Kotoko bounces back right away.. wierdly so relatable to me. lol I guess the more someone hurts you, the more you stay with them? wierd.,

At first I wasn't really convinced in watching this show, because to me Yuki's face looks more like a kid than kakkoi, plus his character was detestable in the first season. However I do have to say he was BORN for this role! He plays it so perfectly - a cool, smart, calm, mysterious kind of guy. The girl is also good for the role, even though I'm still finding it hard to see chemistry between them. The show is really funny though so I find it really addicting! :D Plus, they finally found an actor that can speak fluent English on cue without a strong japanese accent like in most other doramas xD
Naoki could have explain to Kotoko in the beginning the reason he wanted to wait a little more before registering their marriage. That could have save a lot of misunderstandings and troubles between them. He could have also called Kotoko to check up on her, or told her why he can’t come home for several days. His family need to know the reason or else they will worry about him a lot. I cannot blame Kotoko for being anxious. After all, she was the one who chased him, so she must have worried that he could lose his feelings for her anytime. When she wanted to see him, he told her he could not see her but did not disclose the reason why. And when she finally saw him, he told her to leave and that it’s okay because their marriage is not official. He really hurt Kotoko’s feelings here. Kotoko’s dad even told her to not be selfish and to think for Naoki, but I don’t agree with him. Naoki was the one who is being selfish here: not coming home for days, told her to leave, suddenly showed up and pulled her to his dad company with no explanation (even though it is a good surprise, but he could have said something so that Kotoko won’t be confused and get nervous), just casually walked to the office and signed the marriage form. All of these could been done better if Naoki actually communicates what was on his mind. Even though he did explain in the end, Kotoko still had to went through the “worry” phrase.

As a married woman, I rather agree with Kotoko's father.
If she's not ready to face this type of hurdles, better don't agree to marry him from beginning. She should understand him better, and not just expected their marriage life will always in pink colour.
Therefore I like the way her father see the situation in realistic POV and make her understand the real challenge of married life. And finally his father's words is true. Sometimes, out of situation, we can't just communicate everything right away, especially if it's not your character. Therefore to trust and try to understand your partner situation is highly important in married life.
What Naoki did here is not out of selfishness, but he wanted to settle everything right in the place before they moved to the next step. He even literally said that, when he proposed her in front of their family.
What he did is for their future.
And though it looks like "just casually registered their marriage" in your eyes, but for Kotoko's POV it's more than enough to make her feel the butterfly.
I can understand why she sticks with him despite his seemingly cold behaviour. Because when he does expressed his feelings and love, it's feel more deep, special, and precious.

It would only lead to anxiousness. But I do agree with you that sometimes there is no time to communicate with your partner right away. If Naoki cannot explain to Kotoko why he does not want to sign the marriage form simply because he does not have time is an understandable reason. (Nonetheless, this issues is a big misunderstanding and should be solved as soon as possible, or else it will lead to anxiety for the other party). However, Naoki could have at least make a short phone call to Kotoko, letting her know that he simply can’t come home because he was working on a project. This should only take him 2-5 minutes. I’m not married, but I know that marriage is hard. It takes both sides for a marriage to work and last long.
