It's been a long time since I've watched this version and I love how you analyzed his character. Tbh, since I was too young to understand that Irie was an introvert with high IQ and low EQ, I found it difficult to think he fell for her last minute. His harsh and cold behavior also made it difficult but your analysis of him made me rethink

I really love this episode of naoki how he related to his worries on kotoko and trying to understand and searching the answers. Just because he very worry on her ❤ before met kotoko he doesn't care anyone else then his family

This worried trait that he unlocked for her also manifested in the series season 2. On the part where kotoko look depressed and even said that it's hard to be married to him. He immediately knew something doesn't sit right. When kotoko admitted to her co workers that she was naoki's wife , they laugh at her and didn't believe on her words. And then naoki swings by, handed her her purse that he claims his mother wanted her to have it. And then walked away with his hands tucked in his lab coat.
And on the last episode when kotoko arived at the booked restaurant for her bday. She was covered in blood and naoki literally says you scared me , i thought that blood was yours

They frame Naoki as uncaring; but, if you look to the subtlety of his actions you can see he has a master plan, and always has.

0:46 In this scene I realised that both Kotoko and Naoki are in different departments in different buildings. So Naoki being on that staircase means that he was in the literature department, where Kotoko studies. Also, Naoki doesn't have any friends to visit in the literature department, which means he was there to look for Kotoko.
As Kotoko is not in her complete sense, there is no way that she would head to science and engineering department. So, it's Naoki in the literature department.
