- RAMON VARGAS- MOZART- IDOMENEO- FUOR DEL MAR
The Mexican Tenor Ramón Vargas in this remarkable performance
Fuor del mar ho un mare in seno,
Che dei primo è più funesto,
E Nettuno ancora in questo
Mai non cessa minacciar.
Fiero Nume! dimmi almeno:
Se al naufragio è sì vicino
Il mio cor, qual rio destino
Or gli vieta il naufragar?
IDOMENEO
Saved from the sea, I have a raging sea
more fearsome than before within my bosom,
and Neptune does not cease
his threats even in this.
Stern god! Tell me at least,
if my body was so close to shipwreck,
for what cruel purpose
was that wreck withheld?
This is the best Idomeneo available on dvd, though if you have to have a "traditional" production, you might not enjoy it. I absolutely loved it, from the overture to the conclusion.
Top tear singer, felxibility, soft tone and a lot of passion :)! I feel like he has been underrated :(
I have always loved Varga's voice. I bought his Verdi arias CD some years back. I did not know he had the capability of moving his voice like this. The melismatic passages were absolutely splendid. Bravo Ramon
He used to sing Ramiro from la Cenerentola
Marvelous music, with a marvelous tenor as Ramón vargas in a great staged opera,BRAVO!!!!!!
BRAVO!!! That's the way to sing it!!!
this is a bad ass tenor! Bravissimo, perfect technique!
This is not the Vienna version that Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo sang on their RUclips videos. This is the extremely difficult original 1781 Munich version, and the video was from a 2006 live performance of Idomeneo from Salzburg.
Magnificent!!!
Just a superb tenor! Such a wonderful aria; Mozart's best tenor aria!
This is a very good tenor! Bravo for handling that big voice over those very tricky passages. Great technique and breath control.
bel colore grande interpretazione
Incredible performance!!! A truly great tenor!!!!!!
Just wow🤟🏻
Bravisimo! I agree... It is the best Four del Mar version here on youtube. Outstanding job! I can tell that he even sweated! Bravo tenore!
@AntW11 Bravisimo! I agree... It is the best Four del Mar version here on youtube. Outstanding job! I can tell that he even sweated! Bravo tenore!
Que talentoso eres Ramon!!!!
Grande tenor, grande interpretação.. Bravo 👏
Brilliant performance!
Bravisimo maestro
poor Ramon! trapped in a modernist Euro-nightmare!
And yet, he certainly makes the best of it. His acting is superb, watching him, his command of the, ahem, "stage", makes me forget the set.
Bravo Ramon Vargas!
how f'in inspiring. totally great!
Mille Grazie ! Great Performance !
wow, this is sublime and intense
Wow, this is really really good. Another tenor I have never heard from 'til now; he is a lyric, right?
This is great.
Yes he's lyric. He's been singing for quite a while. At 62 he's probably close to retirement. I was at his Met debut in the 1990s
Good for you that now you know Ramón Vargas. Check him up over You Tube. He is a remarkable Tenor preferred by the great Directors.
The Vienna premiere in 1786 (I believe) was heavily modified. The first premiere in Munich in January 29, 1781 is perhaps the best version. Ramón Vargas owns the role of Idomeneo, no question about it.
Ramona!
The singing is sublime. The regie, atrocious.
Why wasn't he available to sing this at the Met this season? He puts Polenzani to shame.
1:50, batt. 56
2:42, fiero nume
2:55, p. 214
3:48, ripresa
hell yes.
el mejor belcantista de esta epoca.
@Merryjest true, especially that creepy Nettuno and that dangerous empty in the middle of the stage
best Fuor del mar
sensational!
Wow!
It is to hard to decide between Vargas' and Araiza's version of this aria
This production is ludicrous (as is the case all too often) but the singing really is great!
If you are comparing with Pavartti, you will notice Ramón very different. Mozart composes this for a lyric tenor. That was before the Italian popular opera that Pavarotti uses to sing.
that empty space in the middle is kinda dangerous
His diaphragm sounds like it goes up and down making his voice go backwards and frontwards, much more noticeable in his high register.
it does not get any better than this.
It doesn't? Try Araiza.
+Gisechan or Richard Croft
@jcatenor Vargas also excelled in some of the Rossini roles. Check out his version of Cenerentola with Bartoli (Met, I believe)
Thank you for posting this! I find it to be the best "Fuor del mar" on RUclips! However, Mozart composed this for a specific singer, not the lyric tenor fach.. further, this is a zwischenfach role and is also listed in facher lists as a Jugendlicher Heldentenor (Spinto) role... not that any of that matters of course! I just find it hard to let an inaccuracy past.. our era started the categorization, they were just tenors in Mozart's day!! thx again, :)
@Torquemada0 por supuesto
what is the purpose of the man in the chair?

Why are European opera productions often modernist, minimalist pretentious shit! It totally detracts from the glorious music and singing of this great tenor.
Perhaps over the years, having produced so many operas in the traditional style, they are simply bored and wanting to stretch their creativity. Not that it always works!
@babajaga39 I just listened to two LIVE perfomances of Kaufmann singing this aria and they were good, but not better than this performance. The same can be said of the Araiza version here in YT. Maybe you were comparing a live performance with a studio recording. I'm sure Mr. Vargas can polish up those "false" notes in studio, as Mr. Kaufmann and Mr. Araiza did.
Is that not Richard Croft? What role did he play?
relike868p Richard Croft? Surely you're jesting. It clearly identifies Ramon Vargas. Those who know how to read are at a clear advantage.
I mean the man sitting on the chair not the one singing lol
I think he is Jeffrey Francis
He looks like a Wallace Shawn marionette tbh.
la coloratura di Mozart deve cantare questo Florez non lo ha capito
:o
Vargas is really really good but pitty , the stage is horrible!
They never trill that fucking note... Unbelievable.
let’s see you try it
@@biancacastafiore8760 I can trill just fine, it's not rocket science.
@TheAleph74
well, then check out Richard Croft sining it in concert with Minkowski! It's much better than this version, in my opinion, especially Croft's coloraturas are outstanding and brilliant.
Ramon Vargas is magnificent, near unsurpassable - but the production is absolute garbage of the worst kind. What a waste !
i don't really like it. his voice is too throaty, sometimes false. araiza or kaufmann sing it better. maybe he wasn't in shape.
Great version. But who designed the set etc? Were they pissed up?
