jump to 7:35 if you just want to hear about the ps vita.
Vita is not what I expected to be or what I was promised with Sony. My only wish Sony will do from now on is actually localize games. That's all I am asking. There are lots of cool VN games as well as Gundam games, JRPG, etc.
yeah bamco's pretty stupid for not bringing over gundam breaker.
inFAMOUSJakey Yeah, all the wrong Japanese games are brought over IMO...
Vimal Joseph Sega is dead so we will never see PS outside of Japan.
inFAMOUSJakey Still waiting on God Eater 2......STILL!
Localising can be expensive, especially since Sony doesn't have a lot of faith in it, but the Vita is region free, so games from overseas should work.
Trevor is a great addition to the show. He has no trouble keeping up with the guys at all. Possibly my favorite Gamescast guest thus far.
noog0909 Thanks!
WE FUCKIN' DID IT SHU!
So much Vita hate in the comments. It's true that there aren't a lot of worthwhile exclusives, especially Triple-A ones, and that it doesn't get enough support from Sony (they dropped the ball IMO), but it's a great piece of hardware. There are tons of games on there that you can play other places, but not on the go. There are tons of games which you can only play on the go on Vita.
Yes, if you want AAA titles this isn't for you. Yes, if you only play handhelds for exclusive games, it's probably not for you. But if you like a great piece of handheld hardware and like playing wide varieties of games on the go, it's a great system. Like PS1 Classics, JRPGs, and Indie games in the palm of your hand? Then it's a great system. Plus you get tons of free games if you have PS Plus.
This isn't a system for everybody, but it is a good one if it's the kind of thing you're looking for. Lots of comments here are bashing the Vita, but I'm willing to bet the majority of them are coming from people who don't have a Vita. I know it sounds kind of silly, but it really is a system where people think it's stupid until they get one, then love it when they actually spend time with it. To each their own, but the internet vitriol is just annoying.
Fair enough, but PSP is an easily crackable system that's the best in many people's minds because of that. If we're basing it purely on the system and the games, and not the possibilities you can open up by cracking the system, then the PSP isn't quite as good as everyone says (though I'm not saying it's bad).
I'm sure the Vita would sell much more if it was crackable, but big companies don't generally like to make their devices crackable, for a wide variety of reasons.
Almost certainly did, if we're talking exclusives. But if you look carefully at my comment you'll see I wasn't directly comparing PSP to Vita. I certainly think Vita is lacking first party and AAA support, but I think it's still a solid system.
Dr Panda Look, I'm not trying to defend the Vita and say that it's the best thing on the planet. Sony could have done a lot more with it, and it's certainly not what it could have been in terms of games, sales, first party support, etc. But for what it is, and as someone who never owned a PSP, it's a great machine. And from a purely hardware standpoint, it's really solid. It's good tech.
I'm not going to say it's better than its current competitor (the 3DS) or its predecessor (the PSP) in anything other than raw hardware, but it's still a good machine. It doesn't have nearly as many quality exclusives as 3DS (or PSP I guess, I don't know a lot about PSP) and it's not crackable like PSP, but it's still good. I like it, and most people who have one like it too. But I'll agree that it's a commercial failure, and Sony has obviously abandoned any idea of more strong first party and/or AAA support.
All I'm saying is it's good for what I want it for, and getting a couple of free games every month from PS Plus is great. Not saying it couldn't have been way better, or that it's not dying a slow death. I know both of those things are true, but I'm at least enjoying it.
CitrusFury whats up bro
CitrusFury honestly I jsut bought my "japanese console" couse I wanted to play "japanese games"(Being this said, truth is more then 70/80% don't even reach us). PS-V has many many many games... they just didn't got localized, thats all.
Besides, most of those AAAtittles out there, I don't even like them. And Vita for its self is a nice piece of hardware regardless it has games for it or not.
PS: Ofcourse PSP had better games than Vita, after we hack it like a whore, no wonder more companys start pulling off their games for the next Sony's hand-held. (Sega 4 example, got really hurt with this)
The Vita is hands down the most biblical piece of handheld technology I have ever owned.
I'm greatly invested in my Vita, and to be honest, I think I've been playing it more than any of my other systems. I have 3, 16 gb memory cards, and 3, 8 gb memory cards. I have an ever expanding library of games, partly from PS Plus. The system really needs more attention. It is capable of great things.
Trevor fit in really well. Awesome job
Shane H.P Thanks!
Play Ys Memories of Celceta, it's a Falcom game, so you have to play it with Brandish a PSP game that is now available on PSN.
Trevor is great. Seems like a complete natural part of the group. Good episode.
Vita is the ultimate rpg portable machine. I have FF1-X-2, Persona 1 - 4 &Suikoden on my Vita. Such an underrated machine
Vita Party!! I got a vita after hearing about these guys talk about it so much and I freaking love it. Some of my most refreshing game experiences have been on that thing and its awesome!!
+Rugdoctor1000 what games do you play?
Same. Persona 4 Golden changed my life. I never had the chance to play it on PS2, but I did on the Vita and my first playthrough was 110 hours. Lol. I did everything I possibly could in that game (I thought). One of my favorite games of all time. So so good, and that game alone is enough to warrant a purchase of the Vita. Lol.
The vita is a amazing system..to bad it dosent get much support
I like the guest this week, seems like a sincere guy.
I am a PC gamer, I love my high res, beautiful graphics... But man do I not care about the OLED. I sold the OLED to get a slim, smaller profile, greater battery life, smaller back touchpad (which nobody talks about but is my favorite thing as my big hands always hit shit by accident). I would never know the screen was a downgrade unless you held them side by side.
I'm going to save the link to this video for when I get a Vita in the future.
I feel like Kevin is still in the "stay out of sight" mode. SHOW YOUR FACE KEVIN!
May not be financially viable for Sony at this point but I'd like to see a new and improved VITA even for $ 199;
-5" 1088p (perfect VITA game scaling from the original 544p)
-much improved local wifi Remote Play ("no lag" in layman); 1080p/60fps, no/less compression artefacts
-ergonomic improvements
-L2/R2/L3/R3
-Slightly better battery life
-32 GB MMC Included
***** Not necessarily as Sony does not have to make "N3DS" game exclusives but more of a "Remote Play Edition - VITA 3000"; superior Remote Play.
I kinda see where you were coming from though.
I'm really interested if Sony would make a VITA successor. If Sony is willing to try and maintain almost half of the Sony console presence in Japan via a new Sony handheld.
AFAIK, the VITA has a significant market share there relative to the PS3 and PS4, in both hardware and software (Media Create sales).
+tuberoako777 There's no way the screen would have a higher resolution without a much better graphics chip.
If they really make Vita 90$ it would be a no brainer for PS4 owners for remote play.
There really aren't any games on Vita if you don't love JRPGs though.
It does seem crazy cheap but then you realize that it's essentially just 4 year old smartphone hardware that's optimized for games.
***** Truly, those who are looking to buy a cheap handheld console will see that the Vita is cheap and would not research the prices of memory cards. Then, they will be saddened to see the memory cards at such a relatively high price point, but will be left with no choice. Seriously, dropping the price of just the Vita would be a devious, quite clever idea.
Brian J Adventure games, visual novels, and indie games too. Since adventure games are undergoing a resurgence in popularity thanks to Telltale Games (who release their titles for the Vita but not the 3DS), I don't know why Sony doesn't just run with this and make the Vita the ultimate console for those types of games. Between the various Telltale series (Walking Dead, Wolf Among Us, and probably Tales from the Borderlands), Grim Fandango HD, the imminent Day of the Tentacle HD, Double Fine's support, Danganronpa, Machinarium, Virtue's Last Reward, as well as Steins;Gate on the way, they're already 75% of the way there. Only VLR is also available on the 3DS, and it's an inferior version.
The biggest coup would be to get Capcom to port the Phoenix Wright series to the Vita. iOS ports already exist, so it can be done. It'd be a major blow to the 3DS and the Vita fanbase would gobble up those games. Also: Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective, 999, and Life is Strange.
They should also make the PS2 classics and some PS3 games on PSN downloadable on the Vita. Games like Catherine run smoothly on the Vita via PSNow, so it's possible. Between that and remote play, the Vita could find a very very comfortable niche, even if it doesn't win the handheld wars.
Brian J They just need to cut memory cards cost in half and bundle at least a 16gb with new vitas.
***** Thanks for the clarification. Though yeah, they could probably downscale the graphics without it being too noticeable on a handheld. It's basically a visual novel-cum-puzzle game, neither of which demand state of the art graphics. If Catherine hadn't been released a year before the Vita, I think Sony should've convinced Atlus to port it there along with P4Golden, as I think Catherine would function even better as a portable game.
Persona 4 Golden, Freedom Wars, Tearaway, and all of the great indies and PS1 Classics on the PlayStation Store.
just got my vita a few days ago, bought uncharted but havent had the chance to play it that much because i've been so invested in soul sacrifice delta. persona 4 and freedom wars should arrive in a few days. hopefully vita has a good e3
Oh man, Soul Sacrifice Delta is a wild ride with so many twists and turns in the story, and I fucking love it. A lot of people just dismiss it as a Monster Hunter clone' but it really is nothing like MH in any way other than the fact that there are bosses that are fairly large. It is probably my favorite PS Vita game. Welcome to the Vita Club and have fun!
LostTrigger Uncharted still my best Vita game. Also, check out some other titles like Shinobido 2, Killzone and Unit 13 to name a few. I love my Vita.
I feel like I am the only one who didn't really care for Uncharted. It just isn't my thing, I guess. It felt too stiff and linear to have fun with, but that's just my opinion. Jocaju3
Jack M. You are not the only one, I Got that game from Plus the 1st day I got my vita, I deleted it on the same hour, and installed Ragnarok Odyssei and Dragon's Crown insteed. xD
Thank you for championing the Vita! I loved playing Hotline Miami on mine. Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3 felt kind of cramped to play on it, but it was just such a cool thing to have handheld versions of those games. Video playback looks fantastic on it. Oh man ALWAYS click to purchase every game PS Plus gives you every month, you never know what game consoles you will have in the future. There will inevitably be either an even more enticing version of the Vita in the future, or the current version will get so cheap that you will be happy to have a whole game collection to go with it.
I'm planning on getting Freedom Wars and Unit 13 for my Vita. Still love this handheld, don't care what people say
"Whaaaa?!?! Set the date! Yeahhhh!" I love you so much Greg.
I definitely turned the power switch off on the PS2 and the PS3 every time I was done using it. I was too afraid that the LEDs were going to go out, lol.
I just bought a vita this week. I got a brand new oled one.The main reason I got one, was Wipeout 2048 (big fan) and also knowing I can play just about any generation of games going back to 16bit with Megadrive collections and Capcom collections that are emulated from PSP.
19:52 KEVIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Met Trevor at Kinda Funny Live, one of the nicest people I have ever encountered. KINDA!
Patrick Ryan FUNNY! Right back at you Patrick!
I really need to get a Vita soon. If Bandai Namco localized Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth, that'll be great!
Race the Sun is SO good. It's probably the biggest surprise I've ever gotten in a game. It's a ton of fun on PS4 but that type of game is made for Vita.
Speaking of the PS4 making sounds while it isn't plugged in, I had that happen to me yesterday! FREAKED ME OUT.
What Colin said wasn't true, you can turn off your PS4 without using a controller. For those people who have a PS4 and still doesn't know, you can turn off your PS4 just by holding Power, wait for a beep and it should turn off.
I play on my PS Vita more than my PS4, Wii U, and PC combined. It might not be the AAA handheld machine everyone expected it to be, but I've come to greatly appreciate its unique library of Japanese games.
I'm surprised Journey, Braid, and Okami haven't already been ported. They seem like natural fits for the Vita.
Tuning in late, but delighted to see that Colin is still cleaning his glasses.
I would have thought that Colin would turned off his consoles to save electricity.
Muramasa Rebirth! BEST VITA GAME
vingero That game is terrible IMO
Being home sick this is fucking awesome.
$90 for a vita. That's a good deal, wish I could find that price like u did.
Yah who sold u a brand new vita for 90$ Tim!
Colin at 25:57 - "Disney Infinity is gonna bomb" #ColinWasRight
Holy shit Tim has a vita. For some odd reason I have respect for him now.
Thanks for actually mentioning Ys Celceta.
My fucking ass was waiting for this video for AGES. Love u guys.
The grip for the vita is great, its like holding a controller!
Tim HAVE to "Gettys" (see what I did here?) Virtue's Last Reward and Persona 4...I mean... You have a Vita now man, you HAVE to get this games.
(I consider myself the 3rd member of Colin's and Greg Vita club... VITA POWER!)
16GB is not really enough for the Vita. 64GB at least I reckon if you don't want to keep deleting installs.
If you are a Plus subscriber and download most of your games I would say 32GB is a minimum
Dom Hunt No worries.
***** Not a fan of physical copies for the Vita as they're very small cards so are easy to misplace if you're not careful and quite fiddly as well.
***** how are u doing sir
***** Yeah, I get that. I don't buy digitals for my consoles if I can get the physical. I've got one cartridge for the Vita (Raymans Legends) but I never remove it as I know I'm gonna eventually lose it.
Pretty rude of Colin to be fiddling with shit and cleaning his glasses while the guest is explaining how he supported them and got on the show. He doesn't even look at him/make eye contact with the guest while he's being introduced. Sticks out like a sore thumb when he's right in between Tim and Greg who are both actually listening attentively and seem interested in what the guest has to say.
I wish they would add Spyro and Crash to the vita already. I wish Tim could get Shu to at least acknowledged that we want them
Day one buyer of the Vita, i still got this gem even if i spend most of my gaming time on PS4 now, i played it more than any other portable console i ever owned, it's in my opinion one of the best portable system ever.
It's a shame that Sony dropped the ball too early on this one, i had more than 30 games on the system between 2012 and 2014 but now that I've moved to PS4 i'm not looking back and my beloved Vita is taking dust on my shelves.
Still i used it regularly to watch the Podcasts while this channel was still named GameOverGreggy :)
What a coincidence I just bought my vita for a trip coming up
You did good Vita is great. If it goes down to $89.99 according to rumors I'm buying 6 for Christmas gifts and another one for me!
Miguel Vega I got the original version for 80 bucks on Craigslist with 2 games
60flymanreturns you got a great deal!!
Miguel Vega wait a minute didn't you just comment on my other post earlier
Yes I did
Welcome to the world of vita Tim.
A high school buddy of mine got one of these something like the first week or so they came out.... He sold it almost a year ago now to get a little extra $ for college. He just never played it, and hes a big PS guy.
I havent heard the name 'Vita' since, well until I came across this video anyways LOL...
Greg always says "sure sure sure sure" and they always say rigmarole
Soul sacrifice delta, toukiden kiwami, tales of hearts r, ys memories of celceta, persona 4 golden, freedom wars, persona 4 golden. It's Japanese game heaven. I love my ps vita. It gets lots of use. It's a brilliant console and a shame more people and developers don't jump on it.
Ps vita is the best. Get the 32 memory stick. Or get the exclusive (not sold in the U.S.) Japanese memory stick which is 64 and last longer.
I love how all the games that they mention barley any of them are exclusive.
I stopped using my Vita when I got my PS4 then I just started to just bring it to school and there's a lot of games I platted that time and I'm still using it for some extra trophies on mostly indie games and some old games I got from PS+.
Sad that Sony mismanaged the Vita so badly. The specs are great and the device is really nice to use; the memory cards and the lack of exclusives are what deters it from being competitive. There are awesome games on the Vita and the console like experience does deliver but it's not what most portable gamers want. Myself, I have to travel from time to time and playing the Metal Gear Solid HD collection, Uncharted Golden Abyss or Gravity Rush satisfy my gaming wants without carrying an actual console with me. However, Nintendo knows what makes a handheld fun and that's the handheld games, designed specifically for handheld gaming. If Sony delivered more of theses, marketed well, in addition to what they did right; it would be competitive. After a few years, this will probably be a cult followed collector's console but it could have been much more.
Finally broke my vita a while back after 2 or so years of use. Miss it so much and wish they were cheap so i could get a new one. But I'm banking on the hope that they make a new handheld soon enough for me not to go insane.
Lunar: Silver Star Harmony :D *edit* actually I think that's on PSP.
YS games are a blast as well :D very underrated imo :D
Tim has finally joined
I hate that they never mention Tearaway for Vita, such a special game. It's always an after thought for Greg and Colin and that's just sad.
The only thing you need to know about the Vita is that its filled with ports
It's sad how under appreciated Vita is. Such a fantastic handheld.
My PS4 broke down and thanks to my country it'll take a couple of months to be fixed. I'm having a blast with my Vita though, I love it. I don't know why I always come back to Minecraft and Isaac though.
So glad to see an epidose about Vita. It is by and far the best mobile device available. I have been using my 3G Vita as a Smartphone for the past five months, and I have never been happier with any mobile device.
I really would love to see a 4G Vita with better battery life and extra RAM for greater multi-tasking. The ability to fully access PlayStation Network would be a massive addition to the platform.
As it is right now, I am really enjoying Remote Play and PS Now when I can find a wifi connection. I have also been playing through the massive library of Vita games available.
Keep spreading the word on Vita. I have finally signed up for Kindafunny, and am really exited to see whats comming next.
FFX is an amazing game and lots of people love no one needs to defend it. the fact that they remastered it and not any of the others speaks volumes about their sales projections.
You guys didn't talk about cases to protect the Vita I heard it's one of the most fragile handhelds, is the hard case the only way to go
Hope they have something at E3 for vita this year ... last time there was nothing. In fact, there was one less vita exclusive as Tearaway was announced for PS4.
Uncharted Golden Abyss doesn't get enough credit. It kinda rubbed me the wrong way at first because they shoe horned all the gimmick stuff in there, but half way through it you get used to it, but it honestly it's a better game than the original uncharted, and the ending was pretty cool
I give Tim a week before he gives up on the Vita. Good luck converting him, Colin.
I think the fact that he can play ps1 classics on it will hold his attention for a bit
Yup. If you buy a Vita it better be for all the classic ports and HD collections, not the overflowing of Anime hack-slash and JRPGs. Haven't played Persona ever, but that's the only one I think is worthwhile. The rest is just a huge turnoff for me.
OLED Vita feels and looks like something designed in 2001. The Slim is 100% better. Feels and looks like a modern product.
I want Digimon Cyber Sleuth for vita so bad I hope they announce it on E3
I could be wrong, but I recall a video of a Sony executive labeling the Vita as legacy hardware and shifting a majority of the company's assets to the PS4. I believe this was mentioned at the investor's summit a few days ago. This could be a bad sign for the future of the Vita. What do you guys/gals think?? Kinda Funny
No lie I play my vita more than my ps4 and xbox one combined, such a underrated handheld.
I'll repeat what Colin has said before which is true. You guys are the biggest supporters of the Vita out there you listening you guys talk about it on Beyond since it came out was the reason I own one now.
After hearing all of this and previous Vita praises, I am actually considering purchasing one :)
the vita is awesome
Danganronpa, Demon Gaze, Freedom Wars, Gravity Rush, Muramasa Rebirth, Oreshika: Tainted Bloodlines, Persona 4 Golden, Virtues Last Reward
Sorcery Saga: Curse of the Great Curry God, Criminal Girls
with amazing games like this how can you not love it ^_^
I fucking died at proprietary dumb cord
It's always great to see the Vita getting some love. Long live the Vita!!
This is perfect, I literally just bought a Vita! Thanks Tim lol.
I figured I'd hear some sort of new announcement for the Vita here, but still a fun vid, thoguh not that informative to me personally. On Journey, though... I'd totally buy it again on Vita, even if it's single-player with bots. I love that game, I'd play it all the time, I hope they do it.
Still need to get a Vita, ive been waiting for an updated OLED model...
I have 3 years of PS+ Vita games waiting for me :-0
I got a PS Vita recently and damn am I pleasantly surprised about just how great the system is. Already I took the thing on a road trip, played and beat Tearaway (which was really neat) and started Danganronpa, which is awesomely fucked up. Nice to see Tim join the Vita party.
I recommend Soul Sacrifice Delta and Freedom Wars.
Im getting a Vita for my birthday but I don't travel at all will I ever find time to actually play the Vita?
The Vita version of Don't Starve is unfortunately unplayable; once winter hits the game lags too much to play. Great game for remote play though.
First thing you should buy is the third party PS Vita Grip because that thing is shitty to hold without.
That guys hair is legendary😎
I like how Tim has bought a Vita just to play all the games he can already play on ps3, ps4,Xbox, xb1 and pc. Vita has a great library of games, but it's a shared library, and unless you play on the go a he'll of a lot, the value just isn't there.
The 3DS isn't that great to me. The only games I ever play are Pokémon and Smash occasionally. The Vita isn't packing power either but I've played it more with Minecraft, Borderlands 2, Mortal Kombat, and Killzone. Mario games just aren't that exciting to me anymore.
So, I wasn't at kinda funny live, being in australia and all. Did they mention these announcements anywhere else? Also, will we get to see the footage from it?
zooksmz They haven't really made those announcements readily available, have they? You can find the specific announcements on twitch.tv/kindafunnygames, on the May 18th episode of Colin and Greg Live. They talk about it right at the beginning. Worth a watch!
Didn't even mention Golden Abyss?
My Vita has aged quite a bit. The screen is a bit scratched, the sides are a bit chipped, and I don't know if it's just me, but the battery life might be a bit shorter. It's an OLED. Still works great, but I'm not sure if I should sell in and get a slim.
I did and dont regret it. The difference in battery life is more than noticeable
Daniel Gutierrez Barredo what about the screen? I know it's worse, but is it really that noticeable?
Its noticeable but only when next to each other. You will eventually forget about the oleds color saturation and the lcd is not that bad
Tim you should definitely play Muramasa ! I think you'd love it !
Go buy a Vita guys, it's great :) playing dak and jaxster collection on it now. Controls will take time to get used to but it's rewarding when you complete all the levels and collect everything. Hopefully I'll get that shiny plat soon!
I still don't own a Vita. To be honest I'm holding out to see if they make another model. I still redeem all my PS+ games for it so I'll have a decent library to start.
JKingdom Don't hold your breath on that one. I think it's either you get it or don't I doubt you'll see another model.
I wonder if you would like the vita/psp if it had been a Microsoft product instead (obviously with different names)?
For me Wipeout 2048 was the reason to get a Vita. Only Vita game I got a platinum trophy for
You can shut the ps4 down, power options - shut down :D. I have to shut mine down because it's on a powerstrip that turns the power off of all of the devices connected to the TV when the TV is off to save power.
