So much better than other videos on this topic with more views! It isn’t hard and this is a very straightforward explanation.

Thank You. This video is very straight forward and to the point. I have 8 of these fixtures and watched 10 similar videos before seeing yours. I was not 100% confident about performing this task until I watched this video. Thanks again.

Worked great for me. Like others have commented, probably should put wire nuts on the ends of the two leftover wires to prevent shorting out to the metal of the lamp.

Thank you for this video. The presentation is great, the explanation is well paced/concise and the videos illustrating your work made it all very easy to understand/follow. If you have basic electric knowledge, this video is a homerun. Thank you!

FINALLY !! A video that was explained straight forward and to the point. I’ve watched so many others I’m cross eyed. They were absolutely no help. The “experts” should go back and delete them before someone gets electrocuted. This is the best. Thank you !!

Should we wire nut or tape the black and white wires cut and not being used or is that why you made them the neutral line?

I ordered T8's at a trade show. For months, I got constant phone calls from the ELS sales team, trying to sell me more. Getting rid of the ELS sales force was like trying to get rid of herpes. I started off answering the calls and explaining that I had not had time to clear the floor of my building and rent the man lift required to replace my current bulbs. The calls persisted. Think of 'your car's warranty' type calls. I stopped answering. So then the salesman decided that if I don't have time or inclination to answer his calls, he would come by my place. Ugg. I crawled out of a piece of heavy equipment I was repairing and explained to him (again) the situation of not having time to clear the floor and put up the new bulbs. I even pointed out the new, unopened box of ELS bulbs next to the door where they had sat for months. When comparing the box to my existing fixtures, he realized that I had the wrong bulbs! Thank goodness I didn't do all that work only to find it out myself. So he ordered the right ones. And they were actually cheaper than the wrong bulbs- good news! So he ordered a few more to make up the difference in what I originally paid for. Better news! Then the calls started coming from the ELS office in Wichita, Kansas. YOU OWE US MONEY! I called back and left a clear, concise, profanity laced message explaining the situation. The sales manager called me back and told me sorry, they were wrong, he had had nothing but troubles with the new office manager and all would be taken care of. Wonderful. Don't call me again. I'll call you if I ever want more of your bulbs. But I wont. Flash forward a couple months and, surprise- my account is in arrears. I am sent a notice of over due bill for the charges that were wrong in the first place. I left another, less clear, less concise and even more profanity strewn message for them late last night. Fortunately, I still haven't taken the time to put up the ELS bulbs. I want to return them and never have anything to do with this company ever again. My experience with this company has been very negative, to say the least.

What if the fixture also has a an emergency battery pack installed along with the normal ballast? What is the wiring config if we want to remove the ballast but keep utilizing the battery pack?

So, at the "fixed end" (that end with non spring-loaded tombstones) you have non-shunted tombstones...and at the other end (that end with spring-loaded tombstones) you have shunted (joined) tombstones. Am I correct? The kits I see today (eg. Jesled) offer 8' FA8 single pin double-ended LED replacements with non-shunted tombstones supplied for both ends. I was just hoping you might have some insight concerning this. Thank-you.

    • @poolmonkey

Most likely you bought "type A" replacement led bulbs, which are designed to work with existing ballast. Type B led bulbs are for bypassing/removing the old ballast and are powered directly by the 110v line voltage. Type B are supposed to be more efficient because ballasts consume some energy to convert the voltage. Sorry for the 2 year late reply.
