Icehouse, The Flowers, Iva Davies whatever you want to call them have some of the best atmospheric 80s music I've ever heard. Why was I so young and dumb and didn't appreciate them earlier?
This was the first single (45 single) I brought. I remember catching the bus into Blacktown after earning $2 from my mum, rushing up to Brashes to buy it. This song was the beginning of my love of Australian music wow what a wonderful memory.
I feel my stomach twisting as i remember this song, and how much less complicated life was back in the 80's wish I could go back in time and live in the 80's forever...
And Revolution and Ideology was still viable and worth fighting for. As soon as the 800m long Berlin Mur went down everything changed for the WORST - wars everywhere invasions sweat shop supply chains under Oligopoly de-unionisation financialisation of the economy increased global warming via more CO2 AND garbage "music" like spice dopes!! That has continued unmercifully. No ideology no hope for most!!
Icehouse was nothing after this in my opinion. THis was his best..coolest and absolutely the best.. Who produced it? Wonderful. The crap that followed , from the haircut to the snare, the cheese to the 'tech', orrible...but making plenty of $$$ in USA..so fair play. This is a classic but you didn't miss much later.
I absolutely adore the synths......this song is so cool...the chord change, the restraint, the tones, the plucky guitar in the background....so wonderful. What the heck happened? He even looks cool here. What happened a year or two later...to all of them, same for INXS. Maybe they wanted to get some US dollars. Electric blue my ass. Oh...dear...mud flap hair...
Exactly the way I feel. I loved them. Sidewalk and the Razorback soundtrack and all before, amazing. But then I always wondered what happened after that. I thought maybe a secret songwriter had left the band. So sad. Simply Red went the same way.
Hastily wrote and recorded as an interim single in 1981. Great follow up to their debut album which got plenty of radio support on AM radio in its day. This track uses analog synth Prophet 5. Takes me back 3 decades.
I adore the keyboard in the verses...I adore this song period. I cannot fathom how they went to pot soon after this and by 1983 were doing Electric Blue rubbish and the guy had a horrible mud flap haircut...but this was oh so sweet. BUt thye got rich, he got rich etc., reached out to more plp etc., cudos...but image what he could have made if he used that sensibility going forward? Oh well...
My alltime favourite ! There's more than one version out now 😁👌 Where did the last 40 years go ! Last saw Icehouse in 1988 live, went to at least two concerts in good old New Zealand. Probably need to travel across the tasman to see them live again. Thanks Iva for the trip down memory lane. Love your channel ! ❤
THis song is gorgeous and sexy...the keyboard tones in the verse are fantastic, the guitar..so sweet. And they turned into t op 40 pop rubbish with mud flap haircuts within a couple of years after this..
Haven't heard this remix version before. all I knew was the album version of the track...cool video of it's time. Love these 80's vids, they were the basics in video making but were some of the most memorable.
They just don't make songs like this now. It takes me back to the 80's when life was less complex but songs were more meaningful. Commercial radio music is complete crap compared to these timeless classics

99% correct. It was recycled from the international/UK? music video of We Can Get Together (the Aussie one is different), which is fitting because Love in Motion was recorded in the UK.

One of the best Australian songs ever. Just wished I had seen Icehouse in the 80s. Thanks for the post.

I was there!! Massive PA, really loud
