I saw the Flowers play in Nov 1981 at Brisbane's Cloudland ballroom. It was a school night, i would have been 16, going on 37 lol. I snuck out of the house had my punk clothes in the bushes under the window. Jumped in my mates car, he was 18. We were more worldy/rebellious back then. I would stay out partying all night, get home just in time to hear the alarm bell going off, have a shower go to school. From the age of 14 I used to go most weekends and stay down the gold coast at a surf club, no parental supervision. I remember that school hols, at age 16, I got a job working in a pub picking up glasses in the beer garden at the Broadbeach International hotel..I lied about my age, there were no Photo Ids on licences...we got paid in cash...little envelopes...those were the days. Can you imagine any of that happening now days...not a chance lol...i'm glad I got to grow up when i did..and that i was born when i was...turn 60 next year.
I saw Kim Wilde last night in the Enmore Theater (Sydney). She is a generous performer, both to her band and the audience. They all sounded stronger than the recordings - unsurprising considering the years of experience and skill honed! It was a happy and fun concert.
I got home found this on RUclips paired it to my tower system and turned the volume up, great song , great tune and great underrated Aussie band. I used to play this when I was 12 back in 82 and still play this song today ......... nothing comes close to 80’s rock period !!!
80's had the best music and Flowers ( Icehouse ) was one of the best bands getting around with the likes of Cold chisle , midnight oil , Inxs and alot more
When I first saw this on MTV back in 1981 or 82. I was completely awe struck at how good this song and video were. It’s not a video that is incredibly complex and visually stunning, pretty basic actually but it was just amazing and have been a huge fan from the US ever since. Saw them in 1985 at the Icehouse funny enough in Pasadena ca.and other than that horrible mullet he had back in he mid eighties they gave a great show. Wish they would tour the US today but I know that’s not going to happen, but I will keep my fingers crossed.
This video appeared in the very early days of MTV and I fell in love with Icehouse. I didn't know it was considered a UK version, so my guess is that the video predates MTV. Those were the great years of music video.
They were actually called "The Flowers" initially(when this was released- there's a video for it), then they changed their name to Icehouse. Here's a video of "The Flowers"(Icehouse): ruclips.net/video/emymeHhPItw/видео.html
My husband said he was 16 when he bought this album the song Icehouse was a new sound a mix of punk n new wave the whole album was excellent he is excited to c this video thank u 😁
Fan of their big hits in America and never heard this great song until now. Should have been a bigger hit especially if played on MTV the following year.
I hear this and think of my unrequited high school crush, Lisa. I have no idea where you are or how you are, but I really hope life turned out great for you.
Love in Motion was 1981. That had animation in it I agree with you. Icehouse were way ahead. Aha Often gets credit for the pioneer in Animation in music clips. But these Icehouse clips were way earlier.
love this song, was listening to this on the radio today on an AM station in my car Every time it got to the chorus, all I got was *SKEEEEZZZZHHHUSHHHH* as I lost reception THAT'S how you ruin the moment AND a good song
As the cliche goes it really doesn’t seem that long ago that I woke up and caught this video debuting. Seems like only a couple of years instead of decades. Watching this makes me think I’m late for class at the uni.
This song reminds me of swimming carnivals, playing Galaxians on a table machine, riding my bike everywhere, country tech school education and certain young ladies, from way back then.
Loved Icehouse since i heard then start of 80s abd Oz rock.. ...on one hand bald legendaru Peter Garett through to Iva' Davis and his missing permed mullet...Ozmusic punches well above its weight.. Love oz rock.... Unique...
Before MTV there were many syndicated video music shows. In my town there was two of them on an independent station on Fridays, one at 11PM and one at 11:30PM. Sometimes they'd play the same videos.
Album was released in 1980. There were video TV shows in Australia and the UK (though not an entire channel), so bands from those places had more clips available when MTV launched.
Was thinking that, I don't remember this being the video in Australia. I marvelled at Aha's clip, but this would have been so ground breaking and original. Great song too.
having a battle with my 12 yo son over volume issues.... i have this blasting through the speakers, and he keeps turning up his crappy Lady GaGa stuff. Looks like the 80's won that battle :)
Music is really important to kids! Be nice by respecting their choices - it's sometimes another way for then to communicate 🙂 but I do agree that this is far bettee than any Gaga song I've heard. Sometimes I think about people hating on Justin Bieber for singing like "Baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby..." but if you listen to pretty much any Led Zeppelin song, Robert Plant does the same thing, but with even more repetition! I think it goes to show that familiarity is what really matters here.
If you were growing up in the 80's, it's impossible to hear this song and not have it take you right back to those great days :)
I was in Alice Springs 87 this song came out on Abc
I saw them play this. Live!! It was sooo good in a big room, so loud! Great stuff!!
This album was one of the first I bought as a teenager .
AbsoFUCKENlutly ….thank you for sharing 🇦🇺💯🙏🏻👍🏻
The Aussies have some real 80's gems
They DO dont they.- Oz music inspired so many People....
I'm glad to be an Aussie. Music is the best 🇦🇺🇦🇺
I was born 1970 this song takes me back to the 80's. Would love to do it all over again
These cats we’re laying it down heavy like man when I hit the scene 69/70’s man

I'm an old man now..but..this song speaks of youth and humanity..OH BABY OPEN THAT DOOR!!

This generation 2022 has no clue what we had in 70 80 90 s

Brilliant nearly perfect 80s nu wave pop. Still sounds amazing ❤️
Oh the heady days of romantic longing. This song captures it perfectly.

I believe that I love this song as much today as when it was first released. Along with every other Flowers/Icehouse song I’ve heard.
Iva, you da man
I wasnt around for the 1980s but this is my favorite band ever!
Rock n Roll, Glam, New wave 80`s classic
Peaked at No. 62 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1981.
Fan of their big hits in America and never heard this great song until now. Should have been a bigger hit especially if played on MTV the following year.
Total earworm from the 80s. This video got me into these guys back in the day 😎
Love you Icehouse, love the 80s and miss it so much. 80s💟💋
Songs like this make me cherish the 80’s!
I hear this and think of my unrequited high school crush, Lisa. I have no idea where you are or how you are, but I really hope life turned out great for you.
I think Iva is a national treasure. Very proud of him!
This video is several years ahead of its time. No one did animated videos til 84/85 time
Love in Motion was 1981. That had animation in it
I agree with you.
Icehouse were way ahead.
Aha Often gets credit for the pioneer in Animation in music clips.

Oh how I love the 80's and growing up to classic songs & bands like this.

Sounds like Power lines on a distant signal. Bummer.
One of the first videos I saw at Eddy Wood's house on MTV!
They sound like THE CARS with this one!
This will always be the "Australian" rock sound for me...a child of the 70/80s
Me too 75-85 Incredible period for Oz Rock
One of the very best of the 80s.....these days we all need to get together 👏👏✌️✌️

Takes me all the way back to the early eighties. Fuck I was killing it with the girls then 😎
This song reminds me of swimming carnivals, playing Galaxians on a table machine, riding my bike everywhere, country tech school education and certain young ladies, from way back then.
Galaxian!!!! 😁
I pluralised it based on the vast amount of rimes that I played it. 😂😂😂
My favourite band when it was 14. Loved this album.
Best song by icehouse.
This song .....and Flock of Seagulls I ran....cross each other's paths.....I love it!
Flock of Seagulls saw them live at RedRocks, Morrison Colorado

Was this launched prior to MTV's debut in the USA because its production value is so high that it would have set an early benchmark.

Up there with inxs
Surely that was Flowers
The Cars?
Never thought of it, but you are right, definite similarity. Loved the Cars especially when Benjamin took the vocals.
@@Alpha_7227 Great!
and of course the video was cleverly recycled for "Love in Motion" which is a killer track.
As I play this in my car in a parking lot, I see the woman of my dreams walking nearby. Coincidence, me think not.
Does anybody know what the difference is between the UK and Aus versions of this song? Is it something in the lyrics?
The U.S. version is more polished and smooth. The U.K. is more raw and edgy. I prefer raw and edgy.
Sounds like skids 1979 masquerade

Love that line...lol!
Why does Iva's look in this video remind me of David Bowey?
