I have been doing some of the most splattered welds ever with a 100a mig welder and flux cored wire. I know it's ad hoc but I can carry the welder in one hand and plug it in to a regular outlet. It allows really small fixes with almost no setup. You can always Texas TIG with an Arc welder. if I had the need for it I would prefer TIG but for almost everything I do mig works just as well at half the cost.
This was great. Both Jay and Erik were able to play to their strengths and challenge Ryan to their own abilities. This is a really short video to be able to show all three individuals and a glimpse of what they can each do. Everyone deserves credit on this. The editor, the writer, the on screen talent, everyone else not seen or heard. I wish I could like it more than once.
So nice to see quality work from real master craftsmen. Rare these days. Kudos guys, kudos. It figures I'd find it on Banks channel, excessive engineering working with excessive engineering. You guys rock!
Yes thank you! Also make sure that the background audio doesn't eclipse the foreground audio. It hasn't been too bad, but it is common for the music to overpower the people talking.
I find tig to be easier. You can control literally everything. My full time job is mig welding but I’m the guy in the shop who does any tig jobs. Don’t call mig easy until you’ve got dimes and can run a true spray arc 30 degrees uphill and nobody can tell the difference. Not to mention being able to produce fast good welds while controlling your spatter without a pulse machine.
@@bankspower Sooner rather than later? I've been watching what you have been up to since way back when you had hair! The spring is definitely long gone from my chicken!
A blower on a d-max is cool and all but getting it to fit under the hood would have been way more amazing. You can make anything fit with a big old honking hole in the hood.
I teach TIG and MIG. I teach TIG first... Aluminum... because MIG and TIG with steel allow cheating... TIG Aluminum doesn't lie. But it speaks to you. It lets you know what you are doing wrong. The most important thing in teaching welding is they have to know how to weld before they touch the machine. Talk them through the process, let them know what they are going to see. And then....make them comfortable. Because a distracted welder...isn't.
"they have to know how to weld before they touch the machine" I agree. I hear way too many times people saying "the only way to learn welding is to weld!". Yeah, then you weld shit and you dont even know your weld is shit. I've worked at a lot of welding shops and seen "professionals" do all kinds of shit because "it gets the job done". FCAW downhill or pushing because "it looks and welds good" on STRUCTURAL parts, years old wet MMA electrodes because "it welded just fine", wrong shielding gas on stanless. All of these examples are from shops doing industrial parts, not some small cheap shops. They learned by just welding.
@@Catrik totally. And I get the appeal of diving in head first, but welding is so kinesthetic. Your brain wires you to how you learn...and if you learn bad habits, you have to UNWIRE your head...to learn good habits. Teaching welding badly is worse for a student than not teaching them. Muscle memory is a bitch it undo. But still, muscle memory is the most important part. I have my lecture down to 30-45 minutes, and I can get people tigging in the next 2 hours. Then can know what they are doing before they touch the torch. Training their brain and their eyes gives them the feedback loop they need to self correct. And once they know TIG, they already know MIG.
Here is the latest update. 1. The Super Turbo (Monster Truck Engine) is in the process of being upgraded which means pulling everything off the current 7.0 LMM, making adjustments and changes, then installing them all on a newer first-gen L5P block. Also, bring it back to the dyno cell is on hold while we conduct testing for our military program in Dyno Cell # 1. 2. Dyno Cell # 2 for “Killing a Duramax” is down while we update and upgrade to our new engine AVL dyno/emissions equipment.
Oh no yall went with a ats Transmission??? Alot better transmission shops out there. They have soooooooo many that break. Transmission shops here in ky wont even touch them
We've had many conversations with Clint and his crew at ATS. They know they have a long way to go to overcome negative sentiment in the market. They're good people, very supportive, and they know they have go the extra miles to earn trust back with diesel fans.
This entire video could have been a 1 minute segment in another video. The first 9 minutes was excessively drooling welds and telling Kibbe how great he is. Then they showed a 30 montage of 3D scanning the truck...
im blown away that not a single comment was about "ats" trans, and if u know what im talking about?! only thing they got are amazing pictures and marketing department. and thats not just my opinion. as for welding? ... all types has its place when needed. yes the dimes look "WOW" but 90% of welding in the world people dont see it and do NOT care or even look for it.
We're well aware of ATS' history and issues they've had. However, we believe in Clint and his team and have faith they're back at the top of their game. They know this is a high-profile build. If something goes wrong, it'll be on display for the whole world to see.
Do you prefer MIG or TIG and why?
TIG, it's harder, but the control with a pedal is just so awesome. With MIG, you gotta just go haha

Have only done stick and MIG. TIG looks awesome.
I haven't welded, but TIG just looks so good. The MIG welds I see usually require a lot of grinding to clean up.
Tig welding. Done it for years. If it’s done right it’s 5 times stronger.

This build is one of the coolest things on RUclips.

I can’t wait to see this build when it’s completed. Getting more excited with each episode.
You're excited? We're excited! We can't wait either. Once that Duramax fires and Gale has a Fedora on, we're doing burnouts.
the technique one of the welders was using just feeding with his thumb, his hand literally didn’t even move!!! Absolute skills!
That's what we were saying. Ryan and the guys are absolute pros!
Thanks for scaling back the game show host announcer. 🙂
We're finding our feet as they say...

3D scanning is so freaking cool! Love where this truck is going!
Right!? It's so cool to watch the lasers scan. Seeing the 3d CAD model in the computer is like looking at art. But for trucks.
Those welds look fabulous.

How can you not like this build, it’s incredible.
