There is something very special about a cosy rain camp. I think 50/50 (probably the way I do it at the moment) is a good split. A bit of all the good stuff in every video.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who occasionally leaves critical gear behind when I go camping. I love seeing Indi but I also love seeing New Zealand. I will probably never get to visit your country so it’s wonderful having you show us different places. Case and point, the spectacular waterfall you took us to in this video! Great video!
Thank you. That is Avery good point, if I stay with the dogs allowed spots only I won’t be able to take you to sone of our most precious places, and there are so many, so I’ll just have to mix it up I think. 😁
See camping the rains are nice and seeing you’re beautiful national parks .I wouldn’t mind seeing a combination of fine weather, camping ,Car 🏕️. That way you can bring Indy with you and we can see more of your beautiful country in New Zealand.
Thank you, I like that, do what makes me happy! That will sometimes be rain, sometimes my faithful companion joining me and sometimes exotic camping locations 😀
Indy over rain any day. I know that's a bit hard sometimes as it seems to rain every weekend in places like Arthur's. Thanks for all the videos over the year watching these. They have made me get outdoors a lot more.
Hi Cathy the Shows of the lanscape and the waterfall are once again beautiful. Beautiful nature and a cheeky Kea. I m already looking forward to the next Video
Again so amazed at how stunningly beautiful New Zealand is! I would give up the rain in a heartbeat over bringing Indie! I I've camped in rain, not by design or choice, its not my idea of a great time.
Camping in the rain is definitely not many people’s cup of tea but one thing that is great, if you like solitude, is you usually get the place to yourself 😆 bliss ⛺️
I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Fiji is beautiful too. I have lots of happy memories from my times sailing around there. Savusavu is one of my favourite places.
Kettle burger - very innovative Cathy. I doubt I would have so keenly climbed out of the warm, dry car at the beginning. However, it did prove to be a great camping experience that you shared with us. Regarding the 'Indi vs rain' issue - Indi is a hot favourite for me but the solo rain camp are proving awesome. Thanks again Cathy
Your videos are a pleasure to watch both new and old. Love the way you face challenges when things don't go to plan. You are an inspiration to me. I live in the South Islands West Coast. Seeing the beautiful scenery as you camp still amazes me!
Thanks Gaylene. I think you are right, even when you live in this country it can still amaze you all the lovely places there are. I am the same, I watch other people's things and go "wow, I must go there."
Who needs Indi when you’ve got Charlie. Right? Lol! Of course I pick Indi. I really enjoy your adventures around New Zealand. That waterfall was amazing! ATB Sean
Another great video really enjoy your content. Thanks for taking us along with you such beautiful country you have out there. Awesome adventure stay safe. look forward to the next one. 👍🏕🔥
From West Chester, Oh - Thank you Kathy for another great adventure. I miss Indi too, but you are able to explain the ecosystem & rules of the NZ Nat’l Parks. BTW - educating us on Charlie the Kea was fascinating and I’m going to try to re-create him on my next rock painting project. Your Grand Finale Waterfall was SPECTACULAR! Thank you!
Yay, I’m so glad you enjoyed meeting the Kea. They are beautiful birds and not a bird that inhabits the cities so not everyone gets to see them up close in the wild. I love your idea of painting Charlie on your rocks, he’s famous now 🤣
Just take Indie with you even if it's raining. Then if pets are not allowed leave her home,. That is if you love camping in the rain. Keep up the good work...... and stay safe my friend .. Hello from America 🙏🙏🙏
Ha ha, that sounds just like me. I love both too. So it tends to be "oooo it's raining over there, but awwww I can't take Indi", or "oooo I could take Indi to that cool spot, but awwwww it's not raining there." lol
Beautiful , absolutely beautiful .What a sensational spot .. Thank you for bird sound .and the lovely interaction with Charlie Kea... Marvellous trip, brilliantly optimistic as always.. and what a finale... Thanks Cathy. Merry Christmas and Happy new year ATVB2U and yours..Scott Somerset England UK
Thank you so much Scott. I am thrilled that I come across as optimistic because even when things are not going to plan that is always how outdoor adventures make me feel. In fact, when something does not go to plan it feels like an opportunity to lean in to it and see what might evolve as a result. No experience (so far, lol) has been wasted. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you too.
I did miss indie but great video again that parrot was very cheeky. I am in awe of you this must be tough but I imagine the rewards are worth it sending love from Scotland
Thank you for another beautiful video. It was calming and we all need some calming peace this time of year when Christmas is drowning us with its chaos and excitement. :
Such a wonderful camping trip! I get so relaxed watching you! Loved how you cooked the burger! If there’s a will, there’s a way! ❤ the fall was amazing thank you!
Hi Kathy 👋 Vivian here Another ENJOYABLE Vid 💯 I ❤ Furbabes & also enjoy Rain sound. I would've to pick ''Indy.😍💋❤️ Fills my heart to c her so Happy enjoying ' Life Till then✌️😎 P.S. 6k Vids soon to come👍🎉
New Subscriber, from AB camping with Tony and Bruno channel. Glad to find you. Will enjoy watching your Adventures, thanks in advance. Take care. Cheers 🍻
Thank you Cathy. What treat to see the waterfall at the end of your trip. I love your calm approach to setting up camp and your choice of pitches. This one was perfection. I am sure where ever its possible you enjoy the companionship of Indi, all in all what comes across is your generosity of spirit. Thanks again. Merry Christmas from Australia see you in the New Year.
Forgetting your frypan reminded me of cooking ham steaks in the Billy on the cooker because I forgot the hot plate, I haven’t done that again. Relaxing, scenic video again. Merry Christmas to you and Indie🐾🏕️🎄
Love it, there is bound to be one way to remember things, that is to forget them and pay the price. Honestly, you won't believe it though (sneak preview) I forgot the tent pegs on the next trip that will be released in a week or so. This forgetting things is getting out of hand. lol
G'day Cathy, love the parrot {Thought at first it was a Norwegian Blue) and thank you for respecting other hikers. Do you want cream and sugar with your burger? 🤣 We have all forgotten stuff on camp trips. I once drove over an hour then stopped for petrol and realized I had forgot my wallet., so back home & pick the wallet then back to the petrol station so finally got to camp three hours late with 3 kids 😒
As always you inspire 😊. I do a bit of hiking in our mountains here in Sweden, and your videos have such presence that I can almost smell it - the air in the mountains that is😄. Thank you for the effort you put in to every video, they are such a pleasure to watch! And I love Indie, and the rain- either way is fine with me, just please keep bringing us along on your adventures and giving us a glimpse of your beautiful country 🙏🏻.
Well filmed and edited, it is a lot of work so thanks for taking us along. Love a rainy camp, just not on pack up day. That was too funny cooking a burger in a kettle! Think I might buy that stove. Cheers
Another very nice video Kathy, I really have enjoyed all of the ones that you have created. As for your poll/question on whether always camping in the rain is the most important aspect of viewing your videos rather than being able to allow Indie to join you at times, no it is not. To me, it would be just fine to find a campsite that would allow you to bring Indie whether it involves rain, snow, or not. You and the beautiful country of New Zealand are the star of the show and Indie and the rain and snow are co stars that can take turns as opportunities arrive. I hope my rambling makes some degree of sense LOL. Take care, I will see you on the next video.
Wonderful camp. I Like the way you used the kettle as a frying pan, Very cleverly done. I would definitely pick indie over the rain as indie looks like great company and a protector and I don’t like rain. In the UK we have magpie birds that are nothing less than criminals, they steal any thing that shines and can be quite vicious, at least Charlie is friendly. Stay safe.
Great camp, you won’t be the first to cook in a kettle, I’ve seen this quite a bit on videos, less to carry I guess 😊 & makes an interesting video. wow what a beautiful parrot it was. 😎
I'm your fan, honestly I really enjoy your videos because I also like camping adventures related to nature, try going to Indonesia, lots of hills, mountain lakes and pristine natural beauty, I hope you respond to my comment, I come from Indonesia, best wishes to you there🙏
My Partner and I really enjoy all your videos! We also absolutely love camping in the rain ❤ 2 questions for you. Do you ever get scared solo camping? And Did your hot chocolate taste like hamburger? 😂
So glad to hear it. Occasionally I get scared but I pick my spots so carefully and plan them out so as to reduce my anxieties. I am becoming less and less preoccupied by perceived risks and more and more attuned to, and able to mitigate, the real risks. Actually, no, no burger taste to my hot chocolate (lol) phew.
What a great place you found...I loved seeing a Kea..gorgeous but wow that beak 😮....do you get wickers I think thats what they are called? Such a gorgeous view..
Thanks , glad you enjoyed meeting the Kea😊 The Weka, no they tend to prefer north and northwest of the South Island, and this spot is more central. They too are very comfortable around humans and equally as inquisitive.
@@adventureot And as far as the question of takin your dog/rain camping. I'll weigh in with this: you're a woman, do what "you" want(women do it always), we're just along for the wonderful adventures you do. I seem to always get some kinda new idea to incorporate into my own personal AdventureOT. Looking forward to spring here to get back out. Thx for sharing with us.
Great camp again Cathy. I went over Arthur's pass 50years ago now. Bit of a ordeal in the night with rain back then. Beautiful scenery in your video. Indi is fine in any video. I love the rain ones best and snow but can't have that all year round of course. Will watch all you put out. Charlie was a star in that one. hehe. Have a nice Christmas. 🎄🎄
I love the way you set your camp up. You really have great camping skills. That was great improvisation cooking the burger in your kettle. New Zealand looks very beautiful, but does it rain every day there? That stuff with the parrot was great filming and most entertaining, you have a real talent for tv. You would be a natural at making wildlife documentaries. The Cathy Attenborough of New Zealand.
Ha ha, Cathy Attenborough, I love it!! No it doesn't rain here everyday but I certainly make it look that way don't I? To give you an idea, the current forecast has rain for 1 day out of 10 where I am. I plan ahead and go out when it rains. Personally I prefer cooler weather camping, and love the sound rain on the tent or tarp, plus the huge upside is that no one else is out and about on the tracks in the pouring rain (funny that, lol).
That waterfall was incredible! I got a kick out of the kea squawking at you and when he hung out at camp. Do you ever see wekas? Another channel called Abel and Victoria see them all the time. They are from New Zealand too.
Hi Joyce. The Kea is gorgeous but naughty. The Weka is very very persistent. I am lucky not to have them frequenting where I camp. Able typically camps a little further north than me, and my areas are not Weka territory.
Hi, I've just found your site and have watched 2 trips away so far! I know just a little about the bird that visited you a few times but many people around the world wouldn't! It would have been nice if you gave just a brief description or overview about it maybe!
Nothing worse than wet Dog in your tent....could yo not have used your wind break as a hot plate to cook your burger.. Great Adventure Cathy even with charlie. Merry Christmas.
They are both native parrots but have their differences. The Kakapo is critically endangered and only found on a handful of island sanctuaries rather than on the mainland. They are larger than the Kea and a mossy green rather than the Kea’s olive green colouring. It’s nice to see a Kea in the wild, it would be incredible to see a Kakapo 😁
well, Indi is a Labrador right, and they love water, so the rain should be no problem, Indi loves it, what is the problem? ˜national parks don't allow dogs, but it's not dogs that are the problem. it is dog owners. Dogs will attack wildlife I guess so that is an issue. Indi is so well behaved and trained by you that she should be allowed in the park. It's not the same without her!
I hear your sentiment, and agree that a well trained dog like Indi is not a great risk, she has never ever gone for a bird or other wildlife. But everything changes (in my opinion) when you 'represent' what's ok or not ok by filming for You Tube. Not everyone is conscientious and I would hate to give the impression that you can just do whatever you want in New Zealand. Monkey see monkey do.
I love the rain and the beautiful setting. I love Indy but, I appreciate the weather more.
There is something very special about a cosy rain camp. I think 50/50 (probably the way I do it at the moment) is a good split. A bit of all the good stuff in every video.

Loved this rainy, mountain camp, especially naughty cheeky Charlie! I hope your holidays are wonderful, full of cheer and and adventure.
Thanks you so much!! Happy holidays to you too.
Since I’m very partial to dogs and not so much to rain, I would choose Indi every time. Your interaction with the birdie was quite entertaining!😁
I can understand that, dogs are pretty special aren’t they?! 😆 yes I was entertained by that Kea too, he was quite the dude 😎
I think you have hit the right combination of Indy and rain switching back and forth.
Oh good, thanks. I am hoping it keeps most people happy, and at the end of the day it keeps me happy.
Great adventure keep camping like your videos thanks

Now that would have been a smart idea 🧐, next time 🤣. Oh yea wet dog in a tent equals tons of condensation
I’d give up the rain
Good to know it’s worth heading out with Indi in the sunshine and people will still look forward to it 😀 thank you
Kea?
What’s the difference between a Kea and a Kakapo parrot?
Both look the same.
Instead of the kettle you could have used a flat shaped rock
Now that is true improvisation 😆
Yes, I’ve seen that done a few times. Worked very well.
Would rather give up the rain as it’s too noisy on these videos. Indy is a much better substitute ❤
She is rather special. Thanks
well, Indi is a Labrador right, and they love water, so the rain should be no problem, Indi loves it, what is the problem?
