Top 5 worst roast sets ever
Jonah's jokes were over written. Didn't come off natural nor intentful. His delivery was perfect. The jokes were over engineered though and in terms of wording and cadencing. For example the riffing on Jeff as being the reason why Jonah wanted to be successful. The punch line wasn't quite a punch line in that it lacked any punch. I think a better rewrite would see a more developed riff rather than a skimming passing few comments. No meat to it nor dept.I'm only contributing here for discourse. Any thoughts from others in the comments section? Ultimately I didn't laugh nor cringe. It was a bland roasting but by a dynamic comedic actor let down by over writing and wording for otherwise mid level joke material that would have been more effective if sold less . Ps. I think jokes at a roast are sanctioned by the context but personal tact and choice is still in motion. The Silverman baby baring joke was so uncleverly included in the bit on her that it just seemed a cheap shock humour inclusion at the expense of Silverman's feelings. A tactful comedian would have woven this into a more developed riff about Silverman but with the punchline being an elaborate yet obvious reference rather than an on the nose and careless bullet point. It seems Jonah is still funny but has lost some of his writing skills for stand up. None of his jokes made me laugh and not for lack of delivery or enthusiastim. The jokes just seemed like the first draught you perform to close friends for their opinion before refining the final iteration. Honest opinion, not funny but not unskilled. I suspect for joke writing Jonah has yes men for friends. Disagree?
