My mom told me that nightshade was voiced by Michael Jackson when I was little and I believed her. I have absolutely SCOURED the internet for the Michael Jackson pony, and here he is. So beautiful. Thank you.
There were two episodes that really got to me as a kid, it was the one where the unicorns get their life energy sucked by an evil ball or something and become feeble and mind controlled, and the one where the ponies get a haircut.
Gen 1 has a very specific chaotic energy and I love every ounce of it, from annoying little shits to world ending threats and all the weird in between, granted I grew up watching it with my youngest sister who eventually moved on from MLP as a whole but I've always been rather fond of it and enjoy keeping tabs on it. On another note, it would be the soul stealing cloud or whatever episode, it's always this damn episode!
Grew up on reruns of these ponies, and I genuinely want everyone everywhere to listen to the songs from the 1980s TV movie. They are so insanely good, especially the one with the goth witches and the goth talking slime they are using to do pony genocide with
Also, in regards to the 1980s and 2000s universes, I am pretty sure every minor mistake in their town is punishable by death, as they all act terrified and cornered when they make them. I am pretty sure Minty feared the death penalty when she ruined Christmas. Another fun fact- the 1980s TV movie implies that the ponies are colonisers
Given how Knightshade was a Pop Singer who kept doing the Moonwalk & the fact that this was made back in the 80's, I think he may have been heavily influenced by the late Michael Jackson.
I agree with you so much about the rounder designs with larger snouts being better. I loved horses as a kid and was so betrayed when they suddenly lost their snouts. I do not blame the show runners because corporations and the philosophy of cuteness are to blame
Ngl these were my favorite episodes growing up and now my favorite things are cute + horror and oftentimes as a child I remember checking to ensure my shadow hadn't been stolen lmao
Despite all the debates about Bridle Gossip, I am beginning to see more reasoning of why they chose the false antagonist of the episode to be a zebra, or in other words, Zecora: To give a bit of redemption to zebras in MLP, after the villainpus depiction of Nightshade's manager in G1.
After watching this video I had a dream that the ponies with no shadows would eventually become so fragile that they would collapse into dust if they tripped or were shoved
Kind of wild how this ep is about a celebrity doing awful things and then being able to brush it under the rug, continuing his career in bliss. Never completely forgiven by his victims, but seen as a good person because who will come forward to reveal the truth?
i never really watched my little pony as a kid except this specific episode because i had it on vhs, but i had completely forgotten it until i saw this video. for YEARS i've had that villain song randomly pop into my head sometimes and it was driving me crazy bc i had no idea where it was from ! so thanks for shining a light on this:)
Oh man. I had like a dvd set(?) of some of these episodes and bright lights was one on there for some reason and yeah. it was wild. i also remembered and loved the little guys but i only remember seeing them in the treasure hunt(?) episode. the penguins episode also is very vivid in my mind. especially the dry ice trap part.
Oh those newborn twins, they really make me mad, if they met up with monsters I’d only be too glad, oh those newborn brats, they drive me up the wall, if they were chased by lightening, I wouldn’t cry at all!
This is the only memory I have of this show! I was soo lil when I watched it, it lives in the vague nightmare nostalgia realm of my brain. The whole show is off kilter w/ the colouring & old animation & plot. I haven’t seen the new show, so this is my only frame of reference for MLP rip
0:30 Now let's see Shady is an extreme pessimist who always expects the worst Fizzy is cheerful and joyous but also a bit scatterbrained Gusty can be grouchy and rude but brave and loyal to her fellow ponies Wind Whistler is NOT a snob but an extreme introvert who can come across as one to the other ponies due to how she prefers to use logic over emotions as seen in the episode "Crunch the Rockdog"
@@mothcubAnd at least they're not on Caillou and Peppa Pig levels of whiny I'd say the ponies are on the same level as the Thomas characters from Season 1-5
Yeah it is kind of sad that the reboot for this show was much better than the original. Also ironic that the toys for the reboot are worse than the ones for the original.
Headcanon: he comes from a race of normal quadruped zebras that are a cousin species to the ponies/horses, but he forces himself to walk on two legs to be more "cool" and less like an animal.
If mouse jail is a mouse trap, is pony jail being locked in a stable with a muzzle, like Hannibal Lecter? also Prince pony is beautiful, and is too pretty to have done anything wrong
i’d love to hear your thoughts on somnambula and perhaps the prince and the ponies, i grew up on a few episodes including those two and uhhhh,, they’re something !
EDITED: Man I'll challenge the bronies on this for real. The original MLP cartoon was on par with most other cartoons made at that time. G1transformers? Equally goofy and annoying in places. He-man and she-rah? Barely cartoons. Bronies tend to attack anyone who likes these earlier iterations of MLP despite them being par for the course for what cartoons were like at the time.
@@mothcub it doesn't. I think I worded my post pretty poorly. I was aiming at the bronies who say things like it being bad while in the same breath praising the other shows I listed (even she- rah which they ostensibly do not care about except to get mad over because the new one 'ruined her' by making her 'not hot') I'll reword my original post to make it clear who I'm referring to lol
When I was a sweet little 14 y/o, I had an... interesting haircut. I entered HS with bangs and a tail on my head, and sure enough, some big mean latino dude there termed me "My Pretty Pony" upon first sight, right in front of everybody (4 others at most) And that is why I STILL have an aversion to any and all "Pony" media. Yet, somehow, I was able to view this. TY
Out of all the MLP shows that came out before FiM, the Original from the 80's was the best one, especially when you compare it to what came between G1 & G4, there was MLP Tales which technically was still G1 but since it's different from the 80's show it's like G1.5, and frankly it was pretty Weird, G2 never even got a show of it's own(which may have been for the better), G3 was extremely girly-girl stereotypical with awful Pony designs, it didn't even get a show but was made up of a bunch of direct to video movies & shorts, there was also a G3.5 which some design changes(for the worse if you ask me), and don't even get me started on the Newborn Cuties shorts(shuttering just thinking about it), at least G1 offered us a bunch more creatures to interact with the Ponies(and help to expand their lore & the world that they live in) and a bunch of Monsters & Villains for the Ponies to vanquish, sure G1 was Far from perfect, but at least it gave the viewers a decent sense of adventure with high stakes, something we got even more of in G4/FiM, so just be thankful that G1 was not the Worst MLP series to exist and try to enjoy it for what it was & what it helped inspire Lauren Faust to make G4 into.
i think there should have been a 45 minute segment, possibly making the episode a 5-parter, where nightshade is beaten to a pulp and left for dead on the side of the road, with passers-by throwing in additional kicks in the gut for good measure. and then the ending theme plays
@@strayiggytvYou know, those type of bronies are such cringe and very hypocritical. I actually enjoy the cutesy girlish tone of G3, It makes it more lively, It makes me wish FIM was the same.

Obsessed with how all the non-pony animals seem to follow an entirely different design & style philosophy
I really enjoy the part at 9:39 where Nightshade is cheering for himself in the background to the right.
Really good

Polo is not difficult.
she was actually going to explain HOW it wasn't difficult and how they could play better, but the video cut her off right there
That makes sense.

2:37 Wind whistler really said "Oh, you're bad at polo? GIT GUD"
is it just me or does this episode being discussed seem like a metaphor for the record industry and it's relationship with art and artists?
At least it looks really cool visually out of context and in short segments. The color pallet and off the wall designs for everything are fun.
This episode and the one with the weird bouncing red ball guy are ingrained in my memory from childhood. This one was truly spooky as a 5 year old lol
The thumbnail making me think this is about to be a story about Nuremberg Trials MLP edition.
After watching this video I had a dream that the ponies with no shadows would eventually become so fragile that they would collapse into dust if they tripped or were shoved
WALL-E the robot, who could only say two words the entire movie, had more character than every single 1986 pony.

"Wind Whistler is a snob."
Girl, do you even know what a snob is?
She acts snooty and snobby towards the other ponies? Have you seen the episode Mish Mash or are you a fake Wind Whistler fan
I still remember as a kid the adult ponies singing how they were going to harm the baby ponies as they were so annoyed by them.
