Lee Ermey's character in Full Metal Jacket (1987) with the intention of getting an actor in New Zealand for the role. But they didn't feel the actors who auditioned were right, and finally ended up approaching Ermey himself.
Considering how his character is introduced to us, there is no way you can root for this guy but, hey, it's Michael J Fox, so we like him anyway. It shows how important it is to hire the right actor for the right role.
I read that Johnny Depp, Tom Cruise, and John Cusack were considered for the lead role. Depp previously collaborated with composer Danny Elfman on Edward Scissorhands.
My favorite horror comedy is Bubba Ho-Tep. It's Elvis and JFK vs the Mummy in a retirement home and yes, it's as ridiculous as it is hilarious. Btw, ya shoulda worn the Mickey ears, they're adorable. Congrats.

"House" starring William Katt is also an excellent horror/comedy from the 80s. The original "Fright Night" starring Chris Sarandon (Prince Humperdink from "The Princess Bride") is also incredible. "Beetlejuice" is also a fun ride (like a Disney ride through the Underworld of the Greek gods), but more comedy than horror. Don't apologize for not talking during the movie. You do you, and we out here will love it. Besides, your reactions say more than your words could.
If you're getting into horror comedies, I can't recommend you enough Housebound (2014), an absolute gem that so few people have heard of, probably on account of being a movie from New Zealand (and not about hobbits). Please consider watching it, you will NOT regret it.

You've instantly shot up into my favorite reactors for your taste in movie selection, including this movie. Such a hidden gem. My grandparents showed me this movie back when I was a kid in the late 90's, maybe early 2000's. It's such a great, weird little movie. I'm sure you saw Peter Jackson and others involvement from the LOTR film trilogy. This movie was also shot on location in New Zealand, so that's why it's a bit extra gorgeous in the background.

Being able to juggle between so many storylines and to tell so much in less that 2 hours is a great asset when you plan to adapt a certain trilogy.
Frighteners is a pretty good horror comedy but most people aren't aware it even exists.
