    Absolutely love, love, LOVE this! Thank you so so so so much for this. 99% of the videos I've seen or books I've read always, always stigmatize and/or demonize cluster b pds (except for BPD sometimes). I actively deconstruct pds, but this is the first time I'm seeing a professional do so, first time I've seen someone other than people who've been diagnosed with pds themselves take an empathetic, compassionate, trauma informed perspective on PDs. So as someone who has been diagnosed with bpd and who is a psych student who's deconstructing this, thank you. I appreciate this. I'm so grateful

      The lifetime of patterns that you suggest people use to survive and thrive thru traumas is spot on. You make many 💯% on target random guesses regarding learned behaviors. Would appreciate a conversation with you to answer some of your WHAT IFS. Yes head traumas can present as drug use when it is a long term CBI.

    Good video. But I've heard that it is, in fact, possible to have AvPD and SAD comorbid. Also, I think I'm living proof of that because I meet all the criteria for both. Only one doesn't explain me.

    • @DocSnipes
      @DocSnipes  5 месяцев назад

      And the diagnostic criteria clearly specify that if one diagnosis completely explains the condition there is no need for another diagnosis. In your case, it doesn't.

    17:45 You mention how many features of both pdd and schizoid personality disorder overlap; while reading the criteria I was thinking the same thing! How do you rule out PDD? What is a distinguishing element these two? Lovely videos by the way, I'm an undergraduate psychology student and find your videos so helpful and easy to understand :) Nothing else like it on youtube, thanks for the knowledge!

      Thank you for your kind words and for reaching out with your question. It's great to hear that you're finding the videos helpful in your studies. When it comes to differentiating between Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD), such as Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), and Schizoid Personality Disorder (SPD), there are indeed overlapping features, but there are also key differences that help in making a differential diagnosis.
      Distinguishing Elements:
      Developmental History: One of the primary ways to differentiate between PDD and SPD is by looking at the individual's developmental history. Individuals with ASD typically show symptoms early in development, such as deficits in social communication and interaction, as well as restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior, interests, or activities. In contrast, personality disorders, including SPD, are usually not diagnosed until adolescence or adulthood, and the patterns of behavior must be enduring and pervasive across multiple contexts.
      Social Interest: While both ASD and SPD may involve a lack of interest in socializing with others, individuals with SPD often choose to be alone due to a preference for solitude and may not experience the same level of social or emotional deficits seen in ASD. Those with ASD may desire social interaction but struggle with understanding social cues and forming relationships due to their neurodevelopmental differences.
      Communication and Behavior: Individuals with ASD may have more pronounced difficulties with nonverbal communication, developing and maintaining relationships, and may display behaviors that are significantly atypical or repetitive. In contrast, those with SPD may not exhibit these specific types of communication challenges or repetitive behaviors.
      Response to Trauma: It's also important to consider the role of trauma in the development of personality disorders. Repeated trauma, especially in early childhood, can lead to adaptations in behavior that may resemble personality disorders. Understanding the individual's trauma history can provide context for their behaviors and help distinguish between a neurodevelopmental condition and a response to trauma.
      Cultural and Gender Considerations: When diagnosing personality disorders, it's crucial to consider cultural norms and gender roles, as behaviors that deviate from these norms can influence the diagnosis. Cultural expectations can shape the expression of personality traits and disorders, and what is considered atypical in one culture may not be in another.
      Remember, a thorough assessment by a qualified mental health professional, which includes a detailed history and consideration of all symptoms and behaviors, is necessary to accurately diagnose these conditions. As an undergraduate psychology student, you're on the right path by seeking to understand the nuances of these disorders. Keep up the good work, and continue to use resources like these videos to enhance your knowledge and skills in the field.

      Sadly, I don’t know many books on this. It would probably be a good idea to write one, if I only had the time to do so. Until then, I filmed many videos on that. You can use my AI to search for them in the video library: allceus.com/DocSnipes-AI

    Doc how are you? My wife had repressed memories from an abusive relationship, since her memories came back, she is so traumatized now that she is afraid of even me. We are giving her space by having her stay at her mom’s house now. She has been going to therapy over 3 years but never really faced it till now. She is in therapy. It’s effecting her also where she can’t go to our sons indoor track meets because the track meets are at the collage she was in that all the trauma happened. Other than give her space and time is there anything I can do to help her feel safe? We been together 17 years and I know this is about her healing but at same time I’m hurting because I miss my wife and it hurts that she is afraid of me now
