Classic Norm with his "Why is that?" to get Will Ferrell to explain the joke. I think that ending is off script which is why Norm is tickled by it so much.
How could Norm possibly sit thru Will's Harry Caray impression and not bust out laughing is unreal to me. I could never sit there without laughing hysterically.
The 97 series was one of the best. Marlins took 4 out of 7. Game 7 went 11 innings and Florida won it 3-2. The Indians were up 2-0 after 6 innings and the Marlins rallied to tie it and then win it in the bottom of the 11th.
He was the drunkest, craziest old man, but the Cubs love him. He offered free beer in his restaurant until they broke a losing streak one year, and berated the team on air more and more with each loss. They were costing him a fortune. 😂
Ferrell's impression is spot on. Harry was prone to saying things in the broadcast booth like wondering aloud whether or not an Asian pitcher would have more trouble seeing to pitch. He was ignorant, and often (or always) drunk- it was both cringy and kind of amusing to listen to him call a game. Even as a kid in the 80s I couldn't believe what would come out of his mouth sometimes.
And they thought snl was dead back then too. It was my favorite time. Will, norm, Tracy, Chris Kattan(has to look his name up tho). Norm had the best news update
Any Harry Caray and also the skit with him as the Devil with Garth Brooks are the only two things I can actually watch Will Ferrell do on SNL, funny stuff.
Norm and Will Ferrell actually make a really great duo. Norm was the best Weekend Update person by far. Not even close. I can’t stand the dude who does it now I don’t even his name.
@@josephinewatson3626 That's the point. It's supposed to be offensive, to send little pantywaists like you crying for your mommies. Gold star, Josie. Gold star...for ridiculous condescension.
@@a-train3503 Are you kidding me? Have you ever seen how far Family Guy and South Park cross the line? They left the line in their dust three states back. Yes, this is offensive, but it's done in a clearly jesting manner, with no ill intent. Hell, the one actual bad thing he says about American Indians (that they steal land when someone isn't looking) is so obviously incorrect and backwards that it's clearly part of the joke, considering the American Indians had their lands stolen by Europeans, not the other way around. So yeah, it's shock humor, which was big around this time. Hell, Howard Stern was at his peak fame in 1997, and that idiot has never been funny, all he had was shock "humor." At least this got a chuckle out of me. And that's coming from someone who sees the atrocities perpetrated against the American Indians as one of the more heinous parts of American history, worse than slavery, really, in its way.
Never really thought about this until now but did Ferrell dye his hair for this character? If not props to whoever applied the wig. Ferrell has multiple characters in his past that are just as good as Burgundy or whatever that really got him into a list celebrity. Really wonderful comedian.
After multiple attempts at Jeapordy Burt Reynolds became a newscaster and realised, Harey Carey looked oddly similar to Sean Connerys human pet. Alex Trebek.
Just confirming a hunch that Will Ferrel is the 2nd voice on Norm’s “first two gay guys” audio skit from his comedy album titled “ridiculous” ... Now I’m sure it’s Ferrel basically doing Harry Carey again... pairs well with Norm’s humor. It’s raunchy but very funny.

“you hunted marlins?”
“no, indians”
i actually choked
Same lmao
Yep!
After his "Hey!" midway through...it always descends into madness. Love Will Ferrell's Harry Caray.
Will is 0 funny. He overacts. More than 30 seconds is too much. Why jeapordy skit worked so good. Will wasnt trying to be funny
I love how your last sentence is all capitalized, and would be grammatically correct if this were a complete sentence.
Norm breaking brings a smile to my face. The greatest Update anchor and comedy legend. I still miss him.

A rare sight of Norm MacDonald cracking up!
It took up until the Mohawk riffing but he got him.

Wet your pants hilarious. The digressions are immortal.

Will was on Kimmel as Harry Caray after the Cubs won. It was okay.
