If you're willing to put in the points into Strength and Dexterity, the Zweihander can be one of the best weapons to use in DS1. I used it recently for a video I did on my channel here and I found that using the heavy attack on a certain boss later down the line could stun them, which trivialized the fight. Also if you get a certain mask from another boss and pair the zweihander with said mask and a set known as Giant's Armor you can become one of Dark Souls's most immortalized player characters.

Elden Ring also has the most horrible bosses in the entire series. The only focus in that game was to make it casual friendly with bosses designed around bleed/magic and summons. Bosses are insanely hard (sometimes frame perfect) for any melee build that can't hit trade. Hyperarmor is such a joke when the poise bar is hidden... Not to mention the endless combos they tend to start at obscure times. DS1 bosses were clunky but fair, Sekiro was insanely hard but you had many tools to properly learn bosses (stance bar+revive), DS3 bosses were an amazing mix of every souls game before, and ER just feels like a cinematic with a skippable (with summons) fight right after or a game for challenge runners that like to discover frame perfect dodges and such. All of that to say I strongly disagree that Elden Ring is better at explaining mechanics. The only thing it teaches you is that hit trading is good (which renders Midir impossible with that mindset) and that you have to rely on summons to ever heal (which makes the entirety of sekiro impossible with that mindset). Not to mention that you are actually slower than in DS3 and BB in Elden Ring even though the bosses are about 1.5 times faster. Thank you fromsoft for making a game about watching cinematics and cheesing bosses.

@@bruksmegee7371 I beat Promised consort Radahn Without a summon, bleed, a greatshield, frost. Literally just dodgerolls and a vanilla twinblade. Level 15 scadutree. It took me 8 hours and none of it was fun. The one time I had fun learning a boss in the DLC was Messmer and maybe Bayle because of the NPC summon. Let me rephrase: Elden Ring bosses MOSTLY suck, they're creating difficulty out of bullshit to counteract the equal amount of bullshit the player has (mimic tear +10 was the biggest mistake in any FromSoft game). Everything got powercrept, my problem are not delayed attacks or waterfowl dance in particular. You can learn both of them with a fair amount of tryhard. My problem is that EVERY BOSS has delayed attacks and their own little waterfowl dance equivalent which encourages hit trading. And this powercreep stems from the existence of OP summons. If every summon was like the base wolves/not upgradable it would be already a huge upgrade to the game. The last straw was Radahn's frame perfect attack in P1 and the amount of visual garbage in P2 both making the rest of his relatively fair patterns extremely unfun to learn. The game can only truly be enjoyed as a RPG, it was never intended to be a souls like and failed as the last game in the Souls series. elden ring is a failed game and I will never play it again unless they make the good bosses easy to access in the game/fightable after their death. Which they won't.

as you noticed - you had 10 flasks at the firelink bonfire, that is one of few bonfires that starts out kindled (hence why it said you couldn’t kindle it any further without the secret rite) all other bonfires in the game only restore your estus flasks back up to a maximum of 5. when you kindled it you made it now give you up to 10 flasks upon respawn or rest at that bonfire.

Resistance is a trap stat. Ignore it completely. Instead get vitality and endurance to 20ish to hold u in the early games then focus what ever build u want.
The endgame weapon meta involved using non boss weapons, body buff and weapon buff (boss weapons cant use weapon buffs).
Weapon buffs were either consumables (resins that apply elemental buffs) or weapon spell buff (these buffs added are more arcane in nature and scale with the catalyst used and the stat associated with it).
But most importantly, every weapon (non gag weapons at leaat) is viable and u can be very flexible in ur build

Some tips from a DS veteran.
    1. Since, you're going for a strength/dex build (objectively the way to play the game, unlike stinky Elden Ring with its Dex, Int and Bleed builds), get the Zweihander (The Bass Cannon) and just profit. In this game, it's the best weapon to use with its ability to flatten humanoid enemies like a pancake.
    2. Get poise! Get the heaviest armor set you can and just tank through the bosses' attacks like they're a joke. Unstoppable Force gets beaten by an Immovable Object.
    3. Humanity is the number on the top left corner of the screen besides the health and stamina bars. It determines, how resistant you are to poison and other statuses, item discovery. When you use a humanity from the counter at the top left, you can become human by reversing your hollowing, which will make your character look like the one you created in the menu. It will also allow you to get invaded by NPCs and other players. The MOST important thing it does is that, it allows you to kindle a bonfire and make it stronger and give you more estus flasks whenever you rest at that specific bonfire. This game doesn't have a Golden Seed/Estus Shard mechanic. You have to kindle each bonfire for you to get the larger amount of heals every time you rest. Firekeeper Souls are like Sacred Tears and it upgrades your Estus Flask.
Most bonfires will start out with 5 estus flasks but the ones that have a firekeeper will already be kindled and give you 10 flasks.
    4. Every time, you see a boss or "bosslike creature" with a tail, attack the tail to get a special surprise.
Anyway. I'll stick you in my prayers. A fine Dark Soul, to you.

You just parry the hand of the opponent. Not the weapon.
So the weapon model and its reach might as well be ignored when it comes to parrying.
You focus on when the hand meets the hitbox of your parry. That hitbox is fairly generous in DS1.

Hollowing and unhollowing are online mechanics. In the beginning, that shriveled look? You are in the hollowed form. In that state, PvP is off. If you reverse hollowing at a bonfire and become human, PvP is turned on. Don't know if there are still online PvP for DS1 nowadays anyway.
As for kindling, it increases your flask count. There are 3 stages of kindling and each bonfire must be kindled individually if you want the benefit. No auto application to all bonfires by kindling only 1 bonfire. You can do the first stage without needing the rite and that increases your flask count from the base 5 to 10. To do the 2nd stage, you will need a secret rite that you will come across the quest for it later. 2nd stage kindling will raise your flask count to 15, 3rd stage will raise it to 20. To kindle a bonfire, you need humanity. You do not need to unhollow to kindle a bonfire.
To get a +1, +2, etc. to your flask, you need a firekeeper soul and feed them to Anastacia, the firekeeper imprisoned beneath the Firelink Shrine. That means you can kill firekeepers you will encounter at some other bonfires and get their souls, right? Sure you can BUT killing a firekeeper will PERMANENTLY extinguish the bonfire they're tending. So, don't do that because you'll find a few spare firekeeper souls if you search around.

People say shit like “DS1 bosses are nothing compared to Elden Ring” but forget that player power level in early DS games was extremely low compared to newer ones. You’re extremely slow, you hardly have any stamina + rolling costs WAY more stamina, and your offensive capabilities are extremely bottlenecked compared to the arsenal of shit you get in ER. DS1 is much more about timing and learning patterns than just mindlessly rollspamming through a bosses attacks then nuking them instantly with the kamehameha.

In DS u don’t have auto-finishing of bosses’ attacks (not counting 3), they don’t read whether you’re healing or not-their series of attacks don’t change. I love all souls games… though bloodborne and sekiro I’ve never beaten (but I’m super close to beating) and demons souls I’ve only played alittle bit of because I don’t want to dust off my ps3 nor do I want to buy a ps5 for the remake. I did play demons souls on the ps3 but didn’t care much for souls games back then.

You play like someone that needs glasses. Your attention is all over the place, To be expected of Gen Z.
