I took up kiting when I was 46 years old. So it was great to hear 'I am approaching 73 so there is not many tricks I want to learn except big air'. Plenty of years left.

You guys kite with Steven Akkersdijk?! Niiiceeeee. I have learnt loads from his SA masterclass videos - I always assumed he was European.
In Wellington we don't get much light wind - so my favourite size to learn new tricks is 9m lol :D

Steven is European - he’s here on a trip. It’s been awesome seeing and filming him kite 😀

I like to practice new things in low wind, so the 12m is my choice. Still enough power for me, not super reactive steering, and lower consequence if I fall (which when learning new things is inevitable). Practicing in low wind also has the benefit of exposing any technique issues I may have, I can't rely on being over powered to mask my bad habits.

I like my 8m kite for learning jumps very much. Because it is fast and it has still enough pop to get you out of the water. Personally I like smaller kites more, because they are more responsive.

    As allways very symphatic.
like me.. for learning stuff like frontrools, backrools, darkslides.. everything you doont need fast kietmovement i like my core xr 5 11m2 most.. ore even sometimes the 13 for double frontrools becaus you get so much tiiiiiiiiimmmmmmmmmeeee...
but starting with kiteloops i use my 9m2 core nexus.. it even catches you at about 3-4 m hight.. so you dont have to get up to 7 m and scare youre selfe to death...

For airstyle definitely the SOUL 18M2 for me . The 12M2 is also good, but with the 18M2 there is more chance that no one is around. I want my space for crashing haha.

Ha! After two seasons with my first kite, a 10m it's time for me to get a 12 definitely and an 8 maybe. Because I'm a slow learner, no tricks yet, but I like to arrive early and leave before the 5 o'clock crowd - so the wind's usually lighter earlier.

  • @thebreak247

Depends what trick you silly gooses! Obviously you’re not going to learn looping tricks on a big kite, and learning technical tricks (I.e. board offs) is easier on a big kite 😜
