Great video and congrats on an awesome day of bottom fishing! I do have to say… the drag on that spinning reel needs some serious Lex love / TLC! Watching that line strip off was like feeling the breaking of a warped disc brake rotor! Each time that fish stripped line… I was on the edge of my seat thinking…no no no.. don’t break off!!! lol

I was referencing the silver reel at the start of the video (Shimano???)… with the big fish on. I would pull the drag pack, wipe clean, and apply a touch of drag grease…felt style or carbontex style). Drag should release smooth, even when cranking down on the drag. Even new reels need some lovin sometimes! lol

I know the spinning gear is fun but if you wanna catch some nice gags you need to go to a penn 4/0 and dog the drag down
I just bought a slow pitch setup with a penn fathom and a Diawa Harrier it’s super sick.
But you’re right. Spinning gear will not usually get the job done. Those first couple cranks on big gags you need conventional.
