you just focus through the viewfinder like any slr camera, but there is a digital rangefinder assist that will tell you when you're focused when half pressing the shutter button
Thanks for watching. I use the standard focusing screen and sometimes the focus assist dot/arrows in the view finder to help, particularly in low light.
Nice review! I’ve always found the Nikkor O 35mm f2 to be a much better performer. If you don’t need the speed it’s the way to go. What are your thoughts?
nice video and pictures. I dont know If I would have risked such a nice lens in the rain..................specially after seing your umbrella LOL. Cheers!
I'd be less concerned about the lens as such, you've got to remember what these lenses were built for and how they were used. There are no electronics in the lens but there are in the camera and there is a degree of vulnerability around the mount with no gasket on the lens which does risk water entering. I once took a lens off and literally poured the water out of the bottom of the camera.
I have this lens and love it’s character and from F2 on it is hands down sharper than the 35 f2 Ais Nikkor. The bokeh is also nicer on natural subjects not so much on busy backgrounds which shows in your shots. It also has less flare than the f2 lens so I gave mine to my Son. It is also excellent on close ups although reversed the f2 Ais is better performer. Nice review and great shots, I always enjoy your reviews. Regards Gerry
Which is more important... what you're saying, or the background music? Music is for B roll. What you have to say is A roll content. Don't mix them. You lost me with the background music mixed with what you had to say. Does your nightly news show mix in music to compete with the news commentary?
Yes, the concept of the extra battery and larger handgrip is fun to use for vertical shots but it comes with the disadvantages of extra weight and bulk. It's a big camera anyway. Go for a photo shoot, however, I'll remove for travel.
How easy was it for you to manual focus on the D850? Do you have a focusing screen for manual focus or you are using just the default one?

Thanks for this !!!... Did you use the crop mode for the AIS at all?... Thanks in advance !
In this video I only used FX full frame.
Excellent video. I just bought that lens (again) for film shooting.
Excellent

Thanks for the tips!
Keep in mind that one extra stop was a huge difference in the film area. This lens is built for having that extra stop available when needed.
You're getting very good at this!
Great to have feedback from pro photographer/artists such as you.

Sergio Otarola : yeah, the umbrella is a classic

Some really nice photos there. Oh how I miss Sydney when I see videos like this (I'm now a Brisbane-based photographer).
Thanks, glad you like the shots.
umbrella is the tops

Thanks, much appreciated. Interesting to read your experience with the f2 version. Cheers
Nice B & W shots

Thanks, always room for improvement
It’s obviously going to be big and heavy if you add the battery grip.....🙄
