  • Full flight with the brand new DA62 from Genderkingen EDMQ to Augsburg EDMA. IFR training with digital coupled go-around (new Garmin 1000 NXi feature) and high-speed approach with full stop landing afterwards. Watch Markus' great parking procedure at the very end of the video - open air line up on the center line :)
    Pilot: Markus Riedel
    Registration: D-IODE, serial number 113
    First time filming with iPhone 11 Pro - using wide angle and zoom features in a pretty unprofessional mode - sorry for this ;-)
    (no ATC recorded , it is prohibited in Germany)

      So, what did I learn from this flight demonstration. 1. The engines were running and best I could tell, they were in sink. 2. I also learned that without the proper headgear, you can't hear a darn thing, unlike the Cessna 150, 172, 182, 206, never fly the Diamond DA62 without the proper headgear( I think I said that twice because my ears are still ringing) Come on guys, you screwed up this video. You should have deleated this video and recorded a new one with the cameras sinked to the aircraft camera input and output..Represent Diamond Aircraft to the professionalism it deserves, because you missed it in this video along with an unapologetic attitude. You failed as professional pilots also in the arena of communication, again because no-one could hear you! Doesn't it say in your preflight to remove all distractions?

      @@theSaxman5 Thx for your detailed comment! Well this video wasn't supposed to be a lesson for potential Diamond clients. And you obviously don't know that ATC-recording and publishing is not permitted in Germany! The engines' sound in all my videos is by far louder than in reality - thanks to the iPhone's highly sensitive microphone. There are enough comments on the noise levels proving the low noise level inside a DA62 cabin - and believe me, we have flown all the Cessna types you mentioned long before my son in law purchased this new DA62 ...

     Wolfgang Karner I think those people talking about noise are trolls or trying to push some kind of agenda about DA62 being loud. I have seen similar comments on other DA62 videos. Anyone who has ever flown a single piston or a twin can tell you they are much louder. Even a small aircraft like Cessna 172 or Piper Warrior are much louder because they are old and manufacturers did not care much about the noise back then. DA62 is much more efficient than many other new planes not to mention there are not that many piston twins in production nowadays. A lot of folks are stuck with the technology of the 40s and 50s with carbureted aircooled horizontally-opposed engines. So I think because DA62 is new and efficient people are trying to find anything to say something bad about it. Also it is very interesting to see that now most popular single engine turbine airplanes are made in Europe by Pilatus and Daher TBM. And now it appears the Diamond can also gain popularity because being very efficient, safe and hi-tech.

    • @wolfgangkarner
      @wolfgangkarner  4 года назад +9

      The DA42 is certified for four people, the DA62 is a 7 seater and therefore a bigger aircraft. The DA62 is much more comfortable, more quiet despite stronger engines (2 x 168 hp/2 x 180 hp). The DA62 has higher criusing speeds, better climb rates, improved efficiency, new double doors, improved interior and
      soundproofing, a more robust retractable undercarriage and the very latest Garmin 1000 NXi system, supported by a new flight envelope protection system, and many more improvements ...

      Thx for asking and sorry for the delay. First impression: Fantastic! • @wolfgangkarner
      @wolfgangkarner  3 года назад +5

      Now I checked out the DA62 in the new FS2020. My first impression from the visual part is great! But the technical modelling of the plane isn't realistic in many ways. There is still a lot of improvement to do. It begins with the enormous power you need in the sim to get the plane rolling. In reality your power setting will be less than 20 percent to get the DA62 going. Next crazy thing is the take off roll in the sim. The acceleration in reality is pretty strong - as soon as you release the breakes after setting the take off power to 100 percent the DA62 really "jumps" forward and it takes less than 20 seconds to get the plane up in the air. In the new MS Flightsimulator it takes much longer. The other curious thing is the climb rate. Here the sim performs much better than the real DA62 where you climb out with a maximum rate of 1250ft per minute. Things like the sensitivity of the controls and stability in flight aren't too realistic too ... I hope for some improvement :-)

      Paul, of course IFR flying mainly is done by the autopilot and therefore you have to do a lot of accurate programming - but I assure you, Markus is a great pilot and he CAN hand fly his brand new airplane! Why with state of the art avionics do pilots need I pads? I don’t get it

    • @wolfgangkarner
      @wolfgangkarner  4 года назад +10

      1) Many pilots are using an iPad instead of the classic clipboard to write down ATC information like IFR clearence or routing instructions etc.
      2) You are using flight planning software like "GARMIN Pilot" for your flight preparation at home and transfering data into the GARMIN 1000.
      3) It is very helpfull to have additional situational awareness information during flight for approach planning, checking airprort charts etc, without changing views of the navigation charts on your MFD ...
      I recommend to check modern airliner cockpits were you can see at least 3 displays for each pilot ... it really makes sense :)

      @@wolfgangkarner - I am a pilot and I know the GARMIN. All I saw was no audio and just a undetailed view of the avionics. Did not see the airspeed, ILS, plates etc. So what's the point?

      @@shahidahsan6507 Okay, first: Unfortunately recording/publishing of ATC is not allowed in Germany. And of course all details and indications on the avionics are clearly visible - maybe you didn't select the highest resolution of the video - otherwiese you easily could read the instruments, charts and settings ... I recommend to use a big monitor to watch it. And in the subtext you can read the purpose and the sequences of the IFR training

      @@wolfgangkarner I said that because there was no audio, no ATC. Couldn't even see the screens. Just as well have been in a passenger jet cabin. It is a nice plane though.

      @@wernerdanler2742 - no prob! Just use a big monitor and you could certainly follow the IFR procedures. It is only IFR training in Markus' brand new aircraft - no fun flight, just testing the new GARMIN NXi - by the way: ATC recording is prohibited in Germany - unfortunately

      For those who know a bit about flying and reading modern avionics, it might be interesting ... if you don't like it - that's fine for me : ))

      This is not an action movie, Alan. It is a training session for IFR standard procedures ...
