outstanding tutorial actually you dont need to replace the chip on these cartridges, just tell your hp1600 printer to override. 1. From the main menu, press (Right arrow) to System setup and press (Select). 2. Press (Right arrow) to Print quality and press (Select). 3. Press (Right arrow) to Replace Supplies and press (Select). 4. Press (Right arrow) to Override out and press (Select). 5. Press (Select).
Thank you for the information. I have an older, but entirely sufficient printer that I would like to keep using, but it was smearing one of the colors all over every page. I replicated the hole-cutting tool by crimping a 3/8" to 1/4" copper pipe reducer around a regular solder iron's tip. I then cut a hole to empty the cartridge's waste toner hopper, and confirmed that there was no problem with the printer itself. Two other things to note: - Wear breathing protection when working with toner, as the particles float off with the slightest air movement and some studies have concluded that exposure has similar effects as asbestos. - When cutting into these HP cartridges, apply more pressure to the tool than you think you need to. There are plastic ribs inside the toner hoppers to increase rigidity, which may prevent you from feeling a "snap" once the shell has been cut. Waiting for this feedback will cause excess melting, and the edges of the hole will be less circular and very rough.
The short answer is yes. For the toner level to be displayed accurately, you need to replace the chip every time. However, as some others have mentioned, there is a way digging through the settings menus on your printer to disable the low toner stop feature so that you can keep printing even with the toner low.
Step 1 with any HP laser printer: Go to menu on the machine, Go to Quality then find the Toner Out OVERRIDE, select this. Now the printer will continue to print no matter what. Instead of HP deciding when you need to send them $300 for new cartridges, you decide when your printing begins to look faded. Toner Out OVERRIDE allows you to refill carts without replacing the chips. One set of HP color carts said out, when only 2-9 grams of toner had been used (they usually contain about 40 g)
Be careful with the aluminum foil tape. I find I have to shave down the ridge on the edge of the melted hole with a razor knife, or the tape won't seal properly. The cartridges are narrow, so there's usually less than an 1/8 of an inch (3mm) for the seal. The slightest imperfection dumps toner inside the printer.
Good video, thank you. I currently use Eagle brand HP refill kits from Amazon. the spouts on the toner bottles in the video are much larger than the ones in the Eagle kits. I'm going to try cutting the spouts on the next bottle I use. The narrower spouts take a lot of squeezing which can blow toner outside the hole.
@meadowsirl The chips allow your printer to display the toner level. However, the override is still useful to get those last few pages out of your cartridge.
Gracias y saludos
Hi, excellent.! this way its more easy to refill. one question: how many grams from toner i have to put inside the cartrigde? sorry for my inglish are not the best.
@MEC0SAURIO Please excuse the delay. Our bottles include 95 grams of black toner and 90 grams of color toner. This yields 2500 pages of black and 2000 pages of color at 5%.
@Maxcielle It is possible that you didn't clean out the toner compartment well enough to prevent contamination. We strongly recommend you get in touch with InkOwl's Customer Support. Your order is backed by a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee.

Thanks! 1600 is quite annoying. I don't even want to replace the color cartridges, but not doing so left marks on all of my black printings.

Thanks for the video. This is what I was looking for.
Do you have to replace the chip each time you refill the cartages?
@thingkinfast The toner kits are available from the InkOwl website.

4 cartridge strips here. Toner may be blamed

thanks a lot, very simple and easy to do, Thanks for share it.
what happens if i dont change the chip?
The toner level will read empty. You can still bypass the error to allow printing, but the chip is so inexpensive, it's not worth the hassle.
