    Have a A7IV myself, tried with 35mm f/1.4, 55mm f/1.8, 85mm f/1.8, 90mm f2.8 and there are definitely focus-issues. The camera is not permanently front- or back focusing, but even with Eye-AF and AF-C, the selection-algorithm fails. As soon as there are strong (often vertical) contrast areas, or lines the AF prefers to focus on those parts in the frame even with the green focus frame clearly being on the eye. So, the camera is dead sharp, but it "internally" selects wrong parts for adjusting rather than the one in the focus frame. Took some selfies on a tripod, focus clearly on the eye, but often "real internal" focus was on the the black and white hairs of my beard, sometimes back focusing, sometimes front focusing. Hairs distract the camera, but also gray lines on buildings, or vertical borders of doors or windows. It's clearly a flaw in the internal focus selection logic. Had lots of portraits with different very good lenses with slightly blurry eyes but only with this camera (others work fine with same lenses). Hope they come up with a firmware upgrade soon

    I just discovered this setting today, it makes a huge difference in my Sony A1 with Sony 50mm 1.2 GM. Just got this amazing lens for my A1, and as I did my first studio shoot, I noticed a disappointing miss focus occurrence in lets say 3 out of 10 shots, and as faith may have it, they were amazing expression/poses, I was shocked! This morning I decided to try checking focus settings, I also did a test with mi prior lens in this range, the Zeiss 55 1.8, and I also noticed some miss focus, so this indicated the A1 being at fault. So, I dug in the Focusing menu, and tried several things, no avail, till I set the "Aperture Drive in AF to Focus Priority, and that was it! Now I get 10 out of 10 in perfect pin sharp focus 😊 To think that I ALMOST send the lens back for an exchange... The moral of the story, always do your homework when some situations arise, sometimes is just some setting that need adjusting, such in my case. Thanks for the video!

    Magic is probably the first photographer who decided to raise this problem with the operation of the aperture drive in SONY cameras.
    No matter how much I wrote to SONY support, they just didn't want to notice this problem.
    The impression that the developers simply do not understand why the jumping aperture was created in SLR cameras?
    Finally, in the A7RIV, they added an item in the aperture drive setting "AF Priority"
    But it only works in AF-C mode

    Great video as always.With older cameras you can turn off exposure simulation and again the camera will use widest aperture to focus.

    • @MagicWeddingPhotographer
      @MagicWeddingPhotographer  2 года назад

      Thanks! Unfortunately the settings effect doesn’t help. It will still close the shutter during the operation when you’re shooting at higher f-stops. At least it does that for me. Try closing your lens to the highest f number and see if there’s any difference when looking at the lens with settings effect on and off and let me know!

      @@MagicWeddingPhotographer it defiantly works. Mark Galer has a video on it. I use it on my A9 mk1 when using on camera flash at events. Speeds up the AF a lot when shooting at f5.6 with a f2.8 lens . The big benefit of the method on the newer cameras is you keep exposure simulation . Not so important when using flash

    How to make the A7iv autofocus better ? Ask Sony to make it just good ! I've been using this setting, but it doesn't make the A7iv capable of focusing on runners coming towards the camera. Detection and tracking work fine, but from my latest trial, only 10 % of the shots are as sharp as the 70-200 GM II allows. It is even worse for light faces with light eyes and light eyebrows : no sharp shot at all.
