I like the idea of getting the Chaos Emeralds in the late game (such as Sonic 06... granted, that takes several hours for you to touch/obtain an emerald for the first time). It makes them a lot more special and "rare" in a sense, at least in my opinion.

They don't go through the entire stage since you have 10 of 20 hermit crabs to collect and those 10 you need can be collected about as fast as team rose's version of the stage.... only w/o the tutorial.
Starting with Frontiers only to End with a special guest to play the classics is actually pretty genius ngl. I kinda just thought all games were just random but by the time 3&K came one I realised you're counting down the games chronologically
@LazuliGalaxyProbably because he only has the Wii version, which requires Red Ring progression to collect them. The DS version has actual special stages. (The same could also be said about the 3DS versions of Generations and Lost World compared to the 360/PS3/PC and Wii U/PC versions respectively)
Glokaze i realize that u actually touch the chaos emerald in sonic advance 3 by getting 9 chao in each act and in the hub world there is a key that spawn in a act only and after u do the special stage u see that sonic and any character will hold the chaos emerald .
The funniest thing about Sonic Unleashed is that if you did count cutscenes, it would be the fastest game (besides Sonic 3 and Knuckles), since you go super in the first cutscene, and even if you don’t count that somehow, after the tutorial level, Sonic starts juggling the uncharged chaos emeralds
It was stage 8, not 9, in your SA2 part of the video, & I know of an earlier star post in Sonic 2 than the one shown in the video, plus in a way CD doesn't count either as it's not emeralds you collect in that game
Okay but the sonic 1 special stages are actually the best, I don't like how the other classic games all went with super disorienting 3D, to this day I am yet to collect all the emeralds in sonic 2 because those special stages are just damn impossible, especially on the actual hardware where you can only see two metres infront of you on a good day.
Honestly, I think that Sonic 1 Special Stages can feel totally out of your control at all times. And unpopular opinion: I think that Sonic 4 Episode 1's Special Stages are better than Sonic 1's.

The Sonic 2 special stages are harder than the Sonic 1 special stages. Maybe they're good with improved frame rate, but on original they were nearly impossible even with a 2 player effort. So, literally, how is it possible, that you struggle with Sonic 1 special stages if you can handle the kaizo tubes? Also, Blue Spheres is the best special stage.
