Honoured to of been there. Like so many other Quoheads, I never thought in my wildest dreams they would get together again and give us THE ORIGINAL FRANTIC FOUR.
I got to see the original Quo back in 1976 Rocking all over the World tour at Hammersmith. Some over 200 gigs later and never missing a tour. Great to be able to see Fantic Four on both tours after patching up the differences. So sad we have lost Alan and Rick. 1976 Live Album has to be one of the finest live recordings ever of ANY band. May the music still ripple in our ears for many years to come. Doug Yates
That's right, the mighty Lancaster was the backbone and the heart n soul of STATUS QUO. I had the pleasure of having a beer and a smoke with Alan at some of his Sydney gigs, with The Lancaster Bombers and The Lancaster / Brewster Band. He was a truly sweet guy, a down to earth soul. in Australia, we call people like him a ' top bloke ' Vale Alan " Nuff ' Lancaster
People who weren't around in the 70's don't realise how big this band were, bigger than Oasis were in the 90's, Quo were huge, and they were huge because of the sound these 4 guys created together, the songs they wrote and the gigs, which in those days were phenomenal. I think Rossi forgets that the band were only ever as big as they were because of the unique sound the 4 of them had. What I also don't get is he keeps saying he likes melody, he likes country music etc and not the 'hard stuff' well unless I'm mistaken Fine Fine Fine, And It's Better Now, Claudie (to name but a few) are pure Country songs but they were a perfect fit at the time and still could be now. Quo were a mix of that and a unique metronomic 12-bar blues and it was a perfect sound. Take one man out and it's gone, forget Lancaster, Quo were never the same after Coughlin left. Rossi needs to realise he would be nowhere without AL and JC, it would never have been Quo without them and he owes both of them and the fans for what they, and we, have given him since the 70's. If he wants to do more poppy/melodic stuff why can't he do it as a solo project? why piss on everyone else's chips? including may I add, his best mate Richard Parfitt? Rossi may not like to hear this but Quo (the current band) are now bordering on a laughing stock, it's cringeworthy watching some of the stuff they have produced in the last couple of decades (and I'm speaking as a fan of Marguerita Time which is a lovely little song). The gigs are dull, and everything is predictable, from the set list to the moves they make on stage. When I was watching Quo I used to see 4 guys getting into the sound, getting into the gig, but naturally, feeling the vibe and moving with it. Everything now is fake and choreographed, you don't get the impression any of it is natural anymore and I watched them for years and years hoping for something that was never ever going to come back. Remember what made the band great Francis, it wasn't you, it wasn't Rick and neither was it Alan or John, it was all of you, TOGETHER, a one-off combination that produces pure magic, whether you realise it or not, it's true.
spot on mate-the current band are a plastic imitation-even more so now that Rick has gone-saw them 3 times in the 70's-I have permanent tinnitus as a result and yes it was QUO that did it-but I wouldnt have it any other way
Thank you soooo much, my dear Russell Smith for your words. Greetz from Austria... you know, this little place with these boomerangs and kangooroos too... ;-) but let´s get serious again: .. you are damned right. I called this "phenomen" - what in REALITY still isn´t a "phenomen": "The chemical of a Band" - never change the ingredients!!!
Bollocks The 4 from 1972 were obviously the best band of all time but Francis is Quo he fucking hated doing the covers albums and since Margarita time he's written some quality tunes!! Don't forget Pete Kircher was an excellent drummer unfortunately replaced by Jeff Rich who was definitely not a Quo drummer but then Matt and now Leon have preserved the STATUS QUO 👌👌🤘🤘👍👍
started out as a Quo 'light' fan about 5 years ago but couldn't believe it when i first heard Frantic four there's something special that is created between them that is truly amazing, love A L singing
Chris C I agree he could sing and you need to hear the quo tunes he did sing specially quo guo album and blues for you also rocking all over the world album
So glad I got to see them at these gigs ...fantastic nights ..my 20yr old son couldn't believe the great atmosphere & seeing OLD people going crazy ...:)
R I p...Alan Lancaster ...him and Rik are looking down from rock heaven with all those other greats...dio Lemmy .Hendrix ..bon...lynott...Joplin ....etc ..and smiling...Mel 🤘🤘🤘
It seems strange seeing Rick not playing his Fender Tele. Such an underrated rhythm guitarist, well they all were. RIP Alan and Rick. Thank you for the great music.
Iv'e so much admiration for Francis Rossi. He would of known how poorly Alan was. Yet he kept it secret. I'm sure that was how Alan wanted it.He took all the flak for not doing any more tours.I thank god, I was able to see the FF for one last time. THank you.x
OMG this is freaking me out!, I was there for the 7 consecutive night stint in 1984, this was my fav Quo album and Rossi is the underestimated guitarist on this planet!
You guys do not know how thank- and greatfull I am, because you were helping saving me live through singing the songs you Guys made. My heart is breaking because of it from happines and I am crying it out loud(!!!) to my Lord Jesus Christ to save you guys for Eternity. Really, all the songs you have been singing over the years (seventies/eighties/nineties and than I fell hard and didnt listen any more, because of my addiction with heroïne!) where PURE PROPHETIC! And now I am saved and everything is all right with me and now I am a preacher of the Word of God. But you guys saved many times my live, because when I wanted to put me out of mysery, I listened to you Stataus Quo, and I changed my mind. THANK YOU STATUS QUO, I LOVE YOU GUYS AND JESUS IS ALSO LOVING YOU. So please say a prayer again and tell Him about that strange guy from Holland who told you about what I am tellin'you now! Please do, okay! I am crying out loud for you guys by me Saviour to save YOU, Status Quo, my love and heart all over the years!!!
Both Rick and Francis really seemed to get into this and Rossi put in a top notch solo. Nuff didn't look and sound so good and I actually wouldn't have been surprised if we'd lost him first. But he seemed to enjoy being back and when you realise they hadn't played together in over 33 years at the time, this is simply phenomenal. Spud looking mean n moody as ever.
Such an awesome night. Was down the front middle, seeing them for maybe the 15th time. My 15 year old daughter was even further forward on the barrier, seeing them for the first time. Some of the best gigs I've been to are Quo gigs and I've been to hundreds.
Wish I could go back to the late 70s and be a young fan again and support this great band the real Quo . And Bon Scott acdc .. And all the other great Rock bands of the 70s . We have lost some great rock stars now .. Never will the bands be the same even Lenord Skynyrd.
I learnt drums and timing to these songs.. Alan was such an integral part of Quo in the formative years.. For me, this is pure Quo.. Response to article only.
1.00 to 2.00 is maybe the classic Quo moment of all time. The first time you hear it you just KNOW what is coming - it builds and builds, then there it is hitting you like a sledgehammer. Great stuff.
le groupe qui m'a fait plonger corps et âme dans le rock . quel regret de ne les avoir jamais vu dans leur formation originale (mais à wembley en 86 c'était quand même génial)
Awesome, pure REAL Quo, 50 seconds to 1.20 in - you KNOW it's coming, builds and builds - and there it is, hitting you like a sledgehammer. This is how I'll remember the band that was the soundtrack to my youth - forget everything that came after.
J’ai 85 ans et ce groupe est nouveau pour moi,j’habite au Canada.Je réalise maintenant ce que j’ai manqué.Mais je me reprend.Ils sont aussi bons sinon meilleurs que les Stones.
I was impressed with John Coglan. He played drums stellar. Alan Lancaster was struggling, as we know he was not in good health. Have been a Quo Fan since the early days. LOved the music to bits.
Just took a second look at John Coghlan. He was struggling as well. Drumming is more physical than playing Guitar. The look in his eyes saying. How long can I do this?

Rick Parfitt for me is the real essence of this song. Especially on the intro` parts. This is top class rhythm guitar playing. Not ever have i seen any one replicate what he does here, or indeed, anywhere at all on any Quo song. The first rhythm intro` part must involve both guitars playing every note in harmony. The next part sees Rick Parfitt power chord inside this B tuning. BBDGBE. He does not play harmony lead at this point as is often misquoted. He then moves on to the main rhythm arpeggiated build up in the tuning of BBDGBE with a chorus pedal to widen the sound. Any other set up will not work and will sound distinctly crass and poor. Not since the 70`s have i seen this played as it should be. It was good to see it properly done once again. 4500 times also falls under the same category as far as tuning is concerned and it should be well observed what he does there to, if it`s ever going to be anything but correct.
RIP, Rick Parfitt and Alan Lancster, These 4 guys were always in my opinion the REAL backbone of QUO. The frantic 4 will never be surpassed....
Honoured to of been there. Like so many other Quoheads, I never thought in my wildest dreams they would get together again and give us THE ORIGINAL FRANTIC FOUR.

RIP Alan Lancaster! Another legend gone! This video shows how brilliant he was (even suffering with MS)… we won’t see his like again! 🎸
That's right, the mighty Lancaster was the backbone and the heart n soul of STATUS QUO.

I’ve been a Quo fan since 1970 and that was brilliant 👏👏👏
So glad for Rick they made it together to play with the Original Quo (who to me is the only Quo). Rick enjoyed The frantic Tour very much !!!
And you can see here that how important he was to the Quo sound.
Riffing like the best of them.

RIP Alan and Rick. Thank you for the great music.
Rossi's solos are faultless...he must have been listening and practising to the original records. Awesome stuff.
Thank you for the great musical memories Rick. Gonna be some concert in heaven. Keep on rockin' Son!
