Man that's awesome, I had a neighbor when I was a kid that had a red crackerbox. Man did I love when that truck would come by. I would run out by the road to watch and hear it go by. Nothing like those old Detroit diesels.
I am 66 years old and when I was young I used to see these trucks on the road a lot. You couldn't mistake the sound of those Detroit' engines. That engine still has that Detroit engine lope sound. That's amazing...
O-H-I-O Porters🇺🇸Greetings in this new year…2025! Looks like you had a good crew to help get it out & get it to the shop! I was shocked that it really had water & still wanted to start, but those old motors were die hard! WOW! It ran rather good, considering & it sounded like an old Detroit should. Love the old Crackerboxes. They were quite cool & unusual looking, even for their time. I have one as well & it hasn’t run for some time…like 35 years or more. Good stuff! What’s next? Best of luck with it! Blessings my friend. Thanks for sharing! 🥰🤩✌️
I recognize that crackerbox. It was owned by a local construction company in my hometown of Woodstock, New Brunswick. I was hoping it hadn't been crushed up and turned into scrap. It sat for many years in a field in upper Woodstock
A few years back I rescued a 2-axle GMC Titan down in Columbus, GA. Sadly I had to move back to WA to care for my father and couldn't take it. Luckily I had a coworker at the airport who had property and was skilled with diesels, so I gave it to him. I hope he was able to get it running. I miss that truck! Nice work getting that one rescued.
In the early 80s during a return home trip from Arizona to Wisconsin we came across a convoy of three GMC crackerbox semi rigs. The curious thing was that at the back of the convoy was two suburbans with privacy curtains and whip antennas. As I passed the convoy, with aroused curiosity, we passed three "cracker box" rigs with all ID badges removed and government plates. The tractors were painted pastel colors that actually made them more noticeable. The cab windows were dark green and gave every indication of being armored. At the head of the convoy was another suburban tricked out like the two in the rear gaurd position. I had read that the Air Force used over the road rigs to transport nuclear warheads. ???😮
Always put a vice grip on the injector control rack in case it try’s to run away, also the emergency stop flapper usually won’t stop a runaway! Cool find.
My grandfather had two GMC Cracker Boxes, both had 238dd, i think...both were lime green inside..freeze to death in the winter...roasted in the summer...i think they were money makers for him
This is a definite keeper. I'm really surprised the engine wasn't stuck with all that water in the pan. To bad the stack wasn't covered when they parked it
Find a CO2 fire extinguisher if you are going to play with Detroit Diesel engines. Robs oxygen from engine when sprayed in intake. Will stop engine without causing damage to blower seals when intake suddenly blocked by closing with wood. Doesn't harm engine at all.
I had a 1964 Crackerbox and one morning I changed the oil and had antifreeze come out before the oil. To make a long story short there was rubber orings between the head and block and they were bad and the cause.
These were the best trucks they ever built!!! I did never understand that they stopped buidling these reliable machines! Modern Chinese Crap trucks suck!
What a cool truck. Plans? If it was my project since the engine is running, I would have it taken out and have it freshen up while the the truck gets attention
I always wonder with these rescues just how badly the cylinder above the pistons will have rusted and how much rust the rings will have to scrape off. I'd like to see a stripdown without trying to run first.
This is a good little project truck. This is a little project truck.Change the engine in there. But Cummins comes over a new caterpilcan. You fry money, go to it.This is a little project
BLASPHEMY!!! There were a few crackerboxes with gasoline or maybe, just maybe 6cyl Cummings, but NO bulldozer motor ever. You could hear the old screaming jimmies a long long time before they came into sight, and lying in bed at night there was more forlorn sound in the distance than a 6-71 dying in the hills going down through the gears . True classic right there!
I pray you won't just tease us ANTIQUE TRUCK ENTHUSIASTS with just finding them OLD BEAUTIES, And show us a series of FULL RESTORATION VIDEOS of this old truck back on the road again.
@ while you're correct that they do both move air they do vary differently, not to mention that's a roots blower on those Detroit engines. Its name and design are what makes it a blower and not a supercharger.
@mikek5298 well please explain why the people that designed and built 2 stroke diesels call a non turbo engine naturally aspirated ...because in that application it adds zero power and is strictly for scavenging..the engine literally wouldn't run without the blower.
@@mikek5298 I've seen guys take a blower off a Detroit, bolt it on to a big block Chevy and ran very strong. So why is it blower in one case and a supercharger in the other?
Just beating on that starter unnecessarily 🤦.... Give it a break between trying to start it..... You'll get that starter boiling Hot and ruin it like that....

The same company wants to use it again!:)

I learned to drive truck in one of those without a sleeper. We called them 2 man telephone booths. 318 Detroit with a 10 speed.

Just a Awesome rig! I would love to have it for an everyday driver. And I would drive it everywhere. Awesome job!👍🏼
It is so impressive to hear that old Detroit fire up. Too bad that beast will never pass California emissions.👍👍👍👍👍🍻
Love the video I really enjoyed it haven't seen one of them cracker boxes in a long time

Have many many miles riding with dad in one of these. I nearly frozen to death in it.
Great garage music. It sends a good message.
I remember when those cracker boxes were brand new!!

Thumbs up for a very enjoyable vid! Thanks.
Well done, loved it.

Ignorance talking.... They are No "Joke".
When tom petty came on it was good timing because it sounded like" free flowing"😂as you guys were draining the oil
Back in the days of hard living!
No amenities!
Noisy as hell!
They call them “Spine Busters” for a reason
Very nice truck ❤
Thanks for save a truck ✅👏🍀🍀🍀♾️🙋🏼♂️
5:33 - Thats how those D&R reefer trailers get all scratched up, and nothing written on the pre-trip inspection.
what a gem of a truck. Subscribed, hope you guys get this one on the road 😮
New to the channel, good video. What state are you in ?
They are in Canadastan (Canada) you can tell by the accent and they Day/Ross trailer earlier in the video
New Brunswick Canada , just above Maine!
Thank You.

Customer wants to use it in parades so gotta get it do it drives. Maybe paint it later

Is it a 6-71 Detroit engine???
yes
@Unlimited3406 Oh.sweet, can I ask what transmission??
@@jamesharrington4923
Probably a 10 speed.
So satisfying.
Let’s see more of that old yellow truck she sounds good
This is GREAT !!!!
I’m hearing LA Guns blasting through the shop. Hells yeah 👍

Arm Strong Steering!
Y’all going to fix it up now?
18:15 "It's alive!"
How much do you want? I have to have that truck
When trucks were trucks and drivers were drivers These new steering wheel holders would not last a mile down road in one
Hope y'all saved that other classic truck beside that building also❤
@04:10, is that an old International rig?
Crackerbox GMC
@@PapaJ5667 No, the one sitting off to the side.
Was wondering about that also and it sure looks like it and decent shape with what little you can see.
Yes it is
It's only a blower, not a super charger
Please explain the scientific difference. Hint: You cannot, because they both describe the exact same principal.

Next time pull rocker arm covers to make sure injector rack is free.
Checking the rack should have been your first thing to check
No that would be stuck at fuel fuel fuel and all the Detroit stick and whenever a diesel motor shuts off set it to full full fuel
White lion is an awesome band . The music was here and gone too fast
We listen to hair nation all the time:)
Save the starter ! Grab some ether ...
Have these guys never tried to start an old Detroit before? SMH
Is water a preservative?
😂
Just beating on that starter unnecessarily 🤦.... Give it a break between trying to start it..... You'll get that starter boiling Hot and ruin it like that....
It's a Detroit it'll live
ITS A BLOWER NOT A SUPERCHARGER AYY
Puré hoil en esos y cranke
NOT A SUPPER CHARGER BUT A BLOWER
If you put it on top of a gas engine its a supercharger. (it is now too)
Good thing the windshield was already busted out and a tv didn’t come flying out of the sleeper to break said windshield 😊😊😊😊
Better remove the valve cover and free up the Rack so it won't runaway and slang the rods out tha block
That's not a supercharger, it's a blower. It's job is to blow the exhaust gasses out of the cylinders.
Seriously difficult to watch.....do you guys know what you are doing?
It’s no fun if you knew what you were doing
@@JonathanSparks-ht4vqI thought it went well 😂
GMC or Gay Man's Cabover
Do you speaking from experience Donny 😉🌈😂
@truckerkevthepaidtourist nope lol I am just kidding 😂
It's a blower
Its a 17×6
