- I received a tip about a Vintage David Brown 990 Diesel Tractor abandoned in a forest for over 20 years. This one had a rough past - tipped over with the engine running. The owner thought it was a lost cause, but I decided to give it a shot. In this video, you'll see how I recovered this forgotten machine from the forest and got it running like a Swiss watch. I see, I click , I relax. Thanks Marty your content is mechanical therapy.
Thаnks for the vlоg I had a misfortune, I was diagnоsed with ovаriаn cаncer. I also crееated a channel and am trying to move in that directiоn, but so far nоt very succеssful((mnyd
Well said.
Nothing beats waking up on a Saturday morning to a Marty T tractor repair in the middle of the woods video
I thought much the same sir. ✊🏻
@ how satisfying was it seeing that engine fire up and purr like a kitten?

A great way to start the day. He must have quite a fan base by now.
It’s 3:30am in Wales and I’ve decided to watch this before going back to bed 😂
Coffee and MartyT on a Saturday morning . Who could ask for more? We could . More videos please. Love these tractor revivals.

Quality British Engineering - built in Yorkshire by folk who took a pride in their work and with old fashioned values regarding materials effort and interest in the product. These and other DB products went round the globe from Huddersfield and many are seen in Aus, Africa Asia and parts of N America, many still going .
Renowned for ease of starting , economical running and power for their size. Iconic. So proud to see it kick off once given a chance. and purring after so long in the wilderness.............
I had an 880 in Australia and liked it
I’ve got an 1190 (Badged as a case but from what I understand the last of the David Browns) It’s old and was neglected to the point of having pretty low compression, but it never fails to start eventually, gets the job done and the price was right. Someday when I finally have the time I’ll do an inframe just to get it starting easier in the cold, but until then I just have to keep a good battery in her for the cranking.
🇬🇧 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🎉
Still plenty of these here in Ireland
i had DB 850 in here Finland it is been here farmer in 50 years and still running!
DB tractors making very well and strong.
Hey Marty, as an old electric motor winder, a better way to clean out the comm segments is half a hacksaw blade with the tooth offset ground off so it's straight and use it with the teeth facing backwards towards yourself. Ideally you want a half to 1mm of depth in those slots. This will give you a nice flat surface on the mica in between the comm segments 😊
Good advice. Had to rebuild my Navarra starter motor...made one up out of 2. Learnt that trick 40 + yrs ago n still applying it. Nav runs good now!!!
Now that is valuable knowledge shared with the hungry minds on this channel, thank you.
Thank you, Neville, for sharing your insight! All the best, Andrew Thiessen
Yup that is a good trick for starter motor commutators.
Neville - great tip. Heard of the hacksaw blade trick - but never filing down the offset.
The man's knowledge and skills never cease to amaze me. Well done Marty.
...I totally agree Pedro.... I love watching Marty work his mechanical magic🔧🪛🔩⚙🚜
What a testament to the original build quality of those machines that it can tip over, sit neglected in the woods for 20 years and yet still run like that.
The Tractor Doctor has saved another patient well done Mart👍
It's never a WILL it start with Marty, it's always a WHEN will it start. What a fantastic job as always.
My dad had an old 1960's Massey Ferguson loader with bush hog. It hadn't been started in 3 years and sat outdoors. Thanks to Marty I had the confidence to check all fluids, charge the battery and it started right up. I added hydraulic fluid to the reservoir and the bucket worked great! We cut the back lot once in 2024 and then sold it in a few days.
That clutch fix "chain it to a tree and give it the beans!" is such a classic Marty T fix!
Frying up breakfast on a cold morning here in Canada and watching an old girl come back to life, nice. Seasons Greetings.
Love how Marty will always stop to explain what he's doing and how it works anytime his kids show interest in what he's doing. The man is a true magician. A tractor that was flipped and sitting for 20 years and he touches it and it comes to life. Pure magic.
A modern age pioneer saving our history one machine at a time...kudos to you Marty!!
Your a damn magician with a lot of percerverance/ patience and dedication to burn well done SIR
Saved another David Brown for future generations to admire😊
A good ol fashioned Marty finds a rig in the woods video. Please do more! The government of NZ should sponsor Marty to travel all over the country and dig out all the old abandoned vehicles!
Sounds pretty sweet. My dad had a David Brown with a hydraulic front bucket. I used to nip down the drive to 'check the mailbox' on occasion... gave it all the onions a few times. Thanks for the upload Marty 🙂
13:20 Very clever self driving Kubota! Years ahead of modern versions! Thanks for sharing!
Your just Amazing , all those skills , and all that knowledge, you'll be able to pass on to the kids, how lucky they are having a Dad, such as you. good luck , JC.
Always a big smiley moment when you get it started again. Very satisfying 🤗
My favourite Marty T videos, bringing a neglected machine back to life. Loved it. Merry Christmas from Ireland 🎅
Ditto
The spider bite, the knackered starter motor, The cork seal the old fuel. This video has it all so far 10/10 excellent stuff I'm just popping a chicken in the oven I'll watch rest later with a chicken supper a red wine ❤
Magic Marty strikes again. Thanks for all the Video's that You posted during the year and I wish You and the Family all the Very Best for Christmas and the New Year Marty - Have a Good one Mate.
I've gained a greater appreciation for diesel engines while watching your channel over the years - if you can spin it and the fuel is clean and getting to the injectors, it will run! Love your methodical practice of assessment, then running through the systems necessary to get it spinning then firing. Great lessons for the generation coming up on the many mechanical devices still out there - they will still be running when the CPU-controlled units are sitting in the scrap piles with NLA CPUs! Cheers from California!
I really appreciate the work you put into your videos. The different camera angles, editing, and setup is much appreciated
Hell yeah, new Marty video to watch with dinner. Cheers mate
Bedtime here, guess I'll have to sleep later 😂
Breakfast for me
Looking forward to seeing it up and running 100% You are the best salesman for the David Bradley machines. They are a tough little rig.
Thanks, they are a pretty cool machine, they are surprisingly strong for their size.
Isn't it joyous when a venerable classic tractor roars back to life?! I also have a 990
They're good old machines, pretty bulletproof
I love old tractors! Especially ones that have sat for so long. The challenges and rewards are awesome. Good video. Working on a ‘49 ford 8-n. Got her running- was sitting for bout 14 years. Love that sound when they first take off. 😁👍 Rock on, sir.👍🇺🇸❤️
Thank you for making these videos Marty. I love how you see the value in these old machines and put them back to work.
I always smile when you get them running, Marty. Nice job!
Love seeing that come-along that you rebuilt!! Works like a champ.
dear mr. t. i have watched your channel before and have always liked it.
growing the way did taught me a lot about if you don't try you don't know.
and almost all motor's will run. they just need cared for. nothing goes to waste.
So excited you found another abandoned tractor and you did not disappoint :) love to hear the dead roar back to life :)
I am absolutely blown away by that trick of chaining the vehicle up to a tree and freeing the clutch that way. Bravo
I love how these projects just keep finding you. Great video as always.
The smile on your face when it starts.....love it and your video's! Greets from a fan from Holland ❤
The way you explain your troubleshooting and what you are seeing is well done. Thanks from the USA.
Hey buddy, your driving on the wrong side of the road! I like watching motor heads work on these old relics.
That must of been a tuff couple of hours work dragging that out of the Bush in that heat. That block and tackle looked bloody heavy. Fair play Marty, and thanks, really enjoyed that.
Getting it on that flatbed looked like hard work too.
Is there nothing this man cannot fix? keep up the good work Marty love your content, You are a winner.
Nice one, Mate!!!....love a David Brown...learned to drive on a red 880 when I was ten!!!👍👍
Ahh . Sir Marty T Attenbourough searches the vast jungle of sth New Zealand for a near extinct Brown 1990 . Upon discovery, the professor can with genetic mechanical knowledge bring it back not only from the brink , but actually back to living it's best life today , God bless the professor, merry Christmas mate to you the missis n family, from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺
Matty T saviour of old Brown David's left in the bush. Merry Christmas
Very good Dad or Grandad showing young fella how it all works, that's how young mines learn, good on you.
Hey Marty, you are lucky not to be in Australia and have a spider bite you on the neck!
I echo all the sentiments below, great to get another David Brown going again. My Wife is a Queensland, Australia, Cane Farmers Daughter and I used to love spending weekends with her Dad on their Cane farm. Old Chevy truck, Massey Ferguson Tractors, always something to fix.
Merry Christmas from a very Muggy Brisbane.
Maurice
Cheers Maurice, sounds like you had a great time on the farm. Merry Christmas from NZ
I find it amazing how you do so much with so little in the middle of the bush.. thanks for all the great Ideas.
It's hard not to love an old reliable tractor! I rescued a 1944 Ford 2N from certain death. It's a fantastic old tractor!
These old ones are built to last!
@@MartyT most definitely! And pretty darn easy to work on.
Wow, what an exciting challenge! 😲 It’s crazy to think about a tractor dozer just left in the woods for 20 years. I’m on the edge of my seat wondering if it will start after all this time! The suspense is real, and I can’t wait to see what happens next. This video is so unique and full of surprises, definitely a must-watch for anyone who loves restoration and adventure! 🚜🔧
22:43 Isn't the sediment bowl supposed to be upside down so gravity can separate the dirt from the fuel and you don't dump it's contents upon disassembly? Maybe they are mounted upside down below the equator...
This is a diesel.
Any air in the fuel system upsets the fuel injection system from the fuel pump, through the filters to the injection pump and then the injectors.
Diesel fuel needs to be like brake fluid...absolutely no air in it!
So this upside down bowl catches any air in the bowl BEFORE it goes through the fuel pump etc.
The upside down bowl does catch sediment and water because the outlet to the bowl is higher up in the bowl and the sediment falls down to the bottom of the bowl...while air rises to the very top......see Marty's other vid re fixing the air leak with a 5c rubber O ring....
I love all the Kiwi ingenuity in your videos. You were definitely taught by the old school and the best thing is you are passing that knowledge on to your son so the skills live on. So enjoyable to watch your videos with no BS content. Well done Marty.
How would you go rescuing a 4WD? My niece ran off the road, it will no longer drive (too bent) and she can't get anyone to pick it up...somewhere near Queenstown, gravel road.
Would make a short vid. She had it less than a week...had a different 4WD before then which survived intact.
I'm not in NZ (in Tas) I assume you are in NZ by your accent and friendly relaxed manner :)
If I was closer I'd help but thats down the other end of the south island unfortunately
And another one saved! 👍👍 This video proves we have to get rid of all the electronics in our vehicles. Just good old mechanics👍👍
I still cannot get over how you get these abandoned machines in the woods running. It is just magic from what I see. I want to wish you and your family a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. 😊😊
I love these ole oil burner work horses, nice to see one coming back to life. That clutch trick, wicked. Thanks for another fab clip.
This sums it all up at 23:48 - “This seal is broken… I’ll just make another one…”. Great videos and the highlight of my summer was bleeding my own DB 1968 990 which had run out of fuel - and getting it going again - all thanks to watching Marty….
The smile on your face when the engine started to run. To die for. Looking forward to follow-up videos - hydraulics, filters, oil changes, tune-ups, tire changes, trial runs, protective rust coating?
These are the videos that made me subscribe to your channel from the beginning. I got hooked on your work, it's a pleasure to see. Greetings, I hope you're well.
Hi Marty T, as an ex-Kiwi now in Tasmania on 25 acres, I have to say how much I love your videos. Keep up the content and have a great Xmas 2024!👍
Marty, as I've said before, you're a magician! That move to tie the tractor up to a tree to free up the clutch was a genius move!
It’s always a special treat to see that you’ve posted a new video. Thanks Marty! 🎉
Thanks from Canada Marty, another great revival of a David Brown!
It's a wonderful treat to see our great Teacher Mr.Marty T, giving us a terrific video about a David Brown Tractor found out in the Jungle, what a savior of old tractors, great job sir, awesome to see it work again. Happy Holidays .
It just never ceases to amaze me how you get something that looks like a total basket case and breathe fresh life into it.
Such a lucky young fella to be able to learn off of such a master! Cheers Marty
How good does that feel to find something 20 yrs old and bring it back to life, awesome job!
Great job! My dad and I did a bunch of this over 45 years together. He taught me a lot.
It is astonishing to see you fix this one. I saw it in the forest and heard your description of it and was like "nah, this one is for sure going to be for parts." And then you get it running. Spectactular work
Your boy is getting the best possible apprenticeship. That clutch fix trick had me laughing aloud. Priceless. Thanks Marty. Wishing you and your family a wonderful Christmas.
Thanks for watching, Merry Christmas to you too!
I have a 1950 Allis Chalmers WD that the starter has been giving me fits. It looks just like that one you took apart. I appreciate you explaining all the way they can fail. I've had mine apart before but learned quite a bit from your explanations. I always love the videos, Marty. Thanks for another great one. Merry Christmas to all the T's.
Yo Marty. You are a hard working, patient Man. Neither weed nor trees nor biting spiders nor heat of day stops You!! Your kit has upgraded, good to see. Thanks for sharing!! jimmy
Until we were in our 60s, my brother and I couldn't afford anything new, so about forty years ago we bought a well used David Brown 995 and it's still running; good old tractors. One of our newer high dollar cab tractors is in the shop because the company won't sell the parts to repair to anyone but a dealer.
Those are some of the best engineered tractors .
we had the 850 petrol and 950 diesel versions .
i drove them lots so know just how well these tractors are Engineered.
BTW Marty on the clutch of these Livedrive models there 3 adjustable screws on the clutchplate - flywheel the can help adjust the PTO clutch (just incase you were not aware ).
Love watching your videos especially when you start up an older machine like this .
Its a nice trip down memory lane for me .
Great to see you are still at it. Love watching you working your magic. Thanks Marty! 😃
They don't make them like they use to! Quality made to last! Made to be fixed in the field or on the farm. Great video!!!!
Another "real" recovery. Love your patience, knowledge and the start ups. Thanks for what you do.
From the land on top here! Marty, been watching you for a long time now, and you never cease to amaze me! Good job, mate!
A nice pleasant Friday night surprise.
A MartyT episode of him rescuing another David Brown tractor.
With a bonus dozer blade on the front.
I've absolutely no doubt that he'll get the hydrolics working in the next episode.
and it's got a PTO. It seemed to be running slow?
Man , you sure find some real neglected cases and rescue them !
Good to see another David Brown, you’ve done a few of those over the years. Hope you and yours have a wonderful holiday!
You should get a Hi-Lift jack or equivalent copy. Most of them are about 42" to 60" high and would make quick work of lifting that dozer blade, plus they're all mechanical, not fluidic.
They are also very "tippy" and tend to fall over a lot....
Good job bringing another old tractor back to life!
Good job Marty. enjoy watching your videos. Brings back memories of some of the stuff I have had to do.
No worries I will just get the spare starter motor I prepared earlier!! Absolutely brilliant adventure - thanks for sharing including the spider attack!
Like most things in this world, all it needed was a bit of love! Thanks Marty. Also love the fact your taking some time to teach the next generation, life long skills there.
Every time I watch Marty bring back one of these mechanical dinosaurs back to life by just doing basic due diligence, it makes me wonder why couldn't the other guys do the same?
Too lazy. But he did need to replace the starter motor. The shorted original motor is probably why it was abandoned.
@@simontay4851 I agree. However, to discard such an expensive and useful piece of equipment because someone couldn't diagnose this problem is more than just lazy. It's INSANE.
Because it's his hobby, not theirs.
Amazing! There sure seem to be an unending selection of abandoned earth moving machines in you neighborhood! Merry Christmas!
Another 'jungle rock' Marty.
Love these finds.
You'll have her all fixed up in no time.
Best wishes to you and your family for the festive period.
🏴🇬🇧
I'd love to get an opportunity to revive an old tractor, very good fun. Sadly, they're uncommon here.
There is definitely something special about these jungle finds. It does not get better than this!
Love the hoodie,
Good to see a another farther raising his son right.
I wonder if generation who put them together would be surprised by the longevity of some of these machines
Not at all. Things were built to last in those days and not wear out in 10 years. It was across the board for any car (some better than others of course), appliance, tool, you name it.
Well done Marty T. Just do not see that reversal PTO shaft option much in USA tractors in my area
Another tractor rescue. Thank you Marty, it has been so long I was having withdrawal symptoms. Now let’s see, the next video will be doing overdue maintenance and changing fluids and filters. Anxiously waiting for my next fix.
Just noticed you have 502,000 subscribers, Marty. I am not surprised.
Thanks for saving the old girl, she was begging for help sitting in that underbrush. I think most of the oil on the engine was from being turned over, no telling how long it sat that way before it was up righted. You made me laugh when the spider bit you, I don't think I would have been so calm, I am glad your head didn't rot off. Thanks for the video!
My wife asked why are you cheering, I said Marty got the David Brown running 😂😂😂 love it mate, all the best from South Africa
I did a fist pump and let out a "Yeah Mate"
You don't repair them, you heal them, I still very much intrigued, amazing ability
Hi Merty always amazes me these old machines sitting in the paddock for 20 years, plus always run or most of them can’t imagine the new vehicles today, sitting around for 20 years and then a fire at probably rust away before that happens. Keep up the good work
Amazing job getting it. Back home, great that the exhaust was covered, the starter you can fix blindfolded, and the motor sounds sweet as a nut. Great job well done, can't wait for part 2
