    This is awesome-
    I really appreciate when a professional uses “cheap” stuff and talk about the problems with the cheap stuff, because newcomers get discouraged if they are struggling with a bad skating shoe and they think “I have to deal with this feet pain for a year??? No-“ and then stop
    Good skates have good support and comfort-

    Changing the cushions on my skates (Moxi panthers) made a massive difference to learning backwards bubbles, slalom and working my edges in general, and it’s such an easy low cost upgrade. I would recommend it to anyone just starting out. If you buy a brand like Moxi or Chaya, in general I find (as a beginner) they come with decent wheels, bearings and toe stops, there’s no need to upgrade those, but the cushions are hard as rocks and they make such an impact on your skating.

    Omg thank you so much for this video 🥹😭😭 I've got a pair of these (lightening bolts design) and I honestly have been wondering why it's sooo hard to skate compared to watching people... I've roller bladed and skate boarded as a kid and I have balance and these boots just made me feel all over the place, when I do have balance it was incredibly difficult to do any techniques like bubbles going forwards because I couldn't turn them in... Eventually I managed to do it but at the expense of feeling like I'm blowing my legs out 🤣🙈 and when I was watching tutorials online I kept thinking to myself why can't I do any of these moves as easily and as flowing as them?... Doing backwards bubbles I'd have to basically do on my tip toes to be able to move my legs in and out freely which as a beginner of roller skates I pat myself on the back for, for not falling over 🤣🙈 but this video makes so much sense.. I was getting extremely disheartened not being able to do what the videos was saying, and kept telling me to shift my weight but it just doesn't work in my skates, and now I know why 😍😍 thank you so much 🙌🏼

      I resonate with this so much.. I bought these skates from another brand in Amazon during prime week because it was cheap and I really wanted light up skates. Plus I’m a beginner so I didn’t really think about how there’s a difference between trunks, wheels, etc. I’ve been trying to practice every weekend and I realized it’s definitely the skates and not me because I have great balance and I have the form down, but I am not improving what so ever on these, it feels terrible 😭I feel like I can’t turn or have any smooth movement so I’m so glad I found this video cause I was about to give up😅

    I will tell you honestly, as a absolute nonskater non-sporter civilian before, i have been blessed that my begining in all of this was heavily induced by profesionals on ice and seller of more expensive class skates (for ice and rollers), thanks to that i haven't got a chance to even think about what i will buy, they exactly said to me what to have, why, and thats it, no discussion allowed from my side. Because of that i am still skating today and haven't event think about quitting. Absloutely love my skates, everything works as it should, easy to maintain, pleasure to ride. My skills aren't great but fortunately for me i took detour from start that went around most of beginer induced obstacles based on equipment that makes more troubles than profit. If you feel that you will like skating, and you can spend extra bit on skates, do it.

    I bought Tempish Nessie skates there very similar to the candy girls.
    They have a aluminium plate and are a solid beginner skate.
    I will say they are a lot heavier then the hockey converters skates. I have adjusted everything on the Nessie skates, the axel nut, wheels, bearings, cushions plus added insoles.
    The skates are still to heavy for me personally.
    I recently bought a custom skate with the sunlight plate, I think I will need to change the trucks for something lighter.
    It really hard trying to find light weight skates.
    I think Rookie skates are a very good beginner skate and they have a good price too.

  • @Ruby_Mullz
    @Ruby_Mullz 2 месяца назад +1

    I would say with skates, even if you have no clue how they work, you can just feel when it’s right. You’re drifting well with your edges, they feel comfy and reliable. Half the battle when learning is confidence, now obviously don’t be overconfident just because you managed to barely do a cross over, but don’t be afraid. You will fall over, but get back up (learn how to get up from the floor because it’s actually kinda techy lol), don’t worry about how you look and keep going.

    Just wanted to say I really do love the videos and the hard work you've put into all of them, they are exceptionally good and I refer people to them all the time for learning to skate properly :) Just wanted to add a couple of points to your info for anyone reading this, maybe having gotten a pair of skates like this and feeling disheartened if watching this learning about their new skates - there are a couple of adjustments one can make to make them slightly better:
    The longer bolt isn't catching the wheels because the wheels are tilting at an angle, one wheel tilting away, the other towards the middle of the plate, clearing the bolt. Of course, the bolt should *always* be cut for several reasons, you and I both know this, but a longer bolt doesn't make a skate unskatable.
    The worst thing about these cheap skates (all puns intended :) is that the plastic baseplate, combined with the plastic hangers (trucks) is really bad (and the 150kg rating for those skates are a joke - all other skates utilizing those mass manufactured cheap plastic plates have a max rating of 60kgs, preferably nobody above 50kg should use them though.
    But they *are* "ok" though for smaller kids, just trying this out on the cheap, in theory, but the *main* problem is the soft plastic baseplate and trucks combined with the rock hard plastic cushions, which are not urethane. And as you say: the metal plates on the slightly more expensive skates *can* make them more heavy, especially for smaller children, for which these skate really are made (even though they make these skates in larger sizes and sell them as "adult" skates).
    Upgrading a skate like this with a proper set of urethane cushions, preferably soft or medium hardness (even used ones are better than the ones that come with), makes it a aaaaalmost acceptable skate for slightly longer term use and enjoyment, and at least ok for just finding out if one likes to skate or not, *if* the budget one has is *really* tight.
    Also loosening the nuts slightly on the supplied cushions doesn't do much for mobility, but inserting a proper set of soft cushions and then adjusting to taste is the way to go.
    - so if one has received this as their first skate there is small upgrades one can do, if one doesn't have the budget to go and buy one of those recommended skates you have listed on your website instead :)
    But of course, buying more expensive skate used instead is always a better option for most :)

    • @Ruby_Mullz
      @Ruby_Mullz 2 месяца назад +1

      Even as you said how these are more ideal for kids, don’t buy these for your kids. I had a similar pair as my first skates and constantly fell over, despite being decent with hire skates at my rink. A lower weight will be “better” with them, but you might as well sellotape wheels to your shoes and have the same experience from how much of a joke these are. I remember mine had plastic wheels too, so I was essentially ice skating rather than roller skating.

    • @AndreSjoberg
      @AndreSjoberg 2 месяца назад

      @@Ruby_Mullz That is true indeed, and these types of skates really shouldn’t be allowed on the market at all - unfortunately sometimes one can’t control what grandparents and well meaning individuals do, and if one receives a pair of skates like these, rather than just chuck’em in the bin creating more waste there are ways of at least making them less crappy for a little while :)
      I help run a partially donation funded roller disco with free roller skate rentals for kids, and I’ve seen small kids do amazing things even on skates like these that have been donated with just a few tune ups, but for any sort of progress beyond the very basics a «proper» set is of course always preferable :)

    Skates to avoid:
    ANYTHING on Amazon (or other sites) that say "Double Row Skates" (even those that do have a "brand name" on them).
    Anything that says "Chicago" (they used to be great in the 80's and before, now...I wouldn't even give them to my worst enemy.)
    Impala! (Their skates themselves have improved throughout the years, but after their racist actions, I can no longer support them in good conscious.)
    Slap a new plate on those and I could probably use them.
    I always say I can skate damn near anything. (Been skating for 49 years now.)
    I have several shoe builds I adore that I made myself, and I've also skated bunny slippers. Literally...no stabilizer, no insole, nothing. The bunny slippers were just the plate attached through holes I made with SCISSORS in the bottom of the slippers. LOL
    But these? Yeah...I'd be terrified, too!
    A cheap skate ain't good and a good skate ain't cheap!
    (NOTE: Yes, there is a difference between "cheap" and "inexpensive". Inexpensive - like those Candi Girl's - are good. I love my Candi's...and my Vanilla's...and my Riedell's...and my Moxi Lolly's...and my Sure-Grip's. Not sure if any of those brands are available world-wide, though, other than the Candi Girl's.)

      Yes! It was just collapsing as I tried to put pressure on my edges. I cannot believe they’re allowed to be sold like this.

    I made the mistake buying Lenexa Shadow for my 1st skates. Turns out that their size 11 ran small. A stranger at my rink asked me if they hurt my feet (I guess I looked that awkward 😢) We soon concluded that they in fact were too small. They did come with a really good 82a wheel bearing combo though 😊. I then purchased the Suregrip Fame. THATS when I knew I started with the wrong skates. These Fames had me moving into intermediate in just a few weeks. 🏆 🏆 🛼 🇺🇸
