Hello! Thank you so much for your videos! How do we know when an orchid is in a hopeless state and not worth the time anymore? In other words, how do we know when to "let go" or if there is still reasonable "hope?" :)

She has a handful of videos about reviving/rehabbing dying orchids - there’s tons of information in the videos & they’re super helpful!
From my personal experience, basically as long as the main center stem isn’t rotted out and there’s still something for leaves to grow from, there’s a chance. Of course it all depends on what environment you set them up in also - I live in a part of Idaho that is high altitude desert climate so for orchid rehab among other houseplant rehab, I use a variety of different terrariums from actual terrariums to homemade w/ plastic cups as well as sphagnum moss, grow lights and occasionally a humidifier. . And patience🤣

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question! I had the same thought about Ophrys, but it grows in Northern Greece, and I live in Athens (perhaps I am mistaken about the temperate climate, it used to be like that but not anymore). I actually thought that Ophrys is a good idea for my cottage house in Northern Greece, to which it is native. I will try to find it in nurseries there, but also I will look it up in Athens too!

Hello Dany, thank you so much for your tutorials, I am watching them even though I don’t have the orchids you’re talking about. I have 15 phals and they’re doing well, at least most of them. I have one that is not very robust, one that is straggling right now. It was a present from my sister and I would love to keep it forever. It looks dehydrated a bit, doesn’t have many roots left after repotting. It has a basal keiki, but this has a terminal spike. Right now it has a flower spike with 5 buds.
Q: what should I do? I was thinking to cut the flower spike, but is a terminal spike, would this keiki survive? I could send you a picture but don’t know how. 😢
If you get my question and have an answer/ solution for my situation please let me know.
PS - I know you are in the process of moving and this might not be a good time for you.
Thank you in advance for your time and consideration

I have never repotted my moth orchid since I got it as a gift. I have had it almost 2 yrs. How do I know what size pot to use now. I think my pot is 4”. Second question I was using 3 ice cubes this whole time 😟 to water it. What fertilizer should I use the exact one (I seen there was three you featured in another video) I live in Sarasota,Florida it’s inside near window partly full sun.

Thank you Jennifer! The last 2 batches of Phals I have purchased, were clearly sprayed with fertilizer etc at the nursery. The orchids are covered in a spray of some sort.
I have been trying to figure out if that is reason I have, I’m reasonably certain, stem rot on 3 of them. Some were slanted in the pot, etc.
Dani I would love a tutorial or something about spraying orchids, stem rot. Roots that grow and then turn brown or blackish and stop growing. I do not water the new plants from the top. The spagna does get water from the bottom to the top new root growth. I just purchased these 2 weeks ago 😂. I don’t know if I should give up on them. I also found the original 2 first flower stems under the spagna 😢. ❤Carol
PS I am not going to purchase any more from the nursery where I live.

Canada has native orchids which have learned to live with our freezing temperatures. I don’t know if the Greek orchid grower gets any frost or if Canadian orchid would be available in Greece, but there has to be orchids which she could grow in her garden. I expect it would take lots of research and possibly experience growing. Good luck.

Hello Danny, I have limited space and not sufficient light from small windows. So I am growing my orchids under growth lights. I try to buy only small size plants but I got few phalaenopsis Polychillos. As you know some spikes grown horizontally and they are taking a lot of shelf room. My question is: If the spike is completely out of the light beam, would that affect the blooms?

I just want to point out, growing any plant at all is different depending on where you are in the world. As someone who lives in Nordic Europe, we get 0 sunlight very dry and cold winters and then all of a sudden 19h extreme sun during the summer with much higher amounts of UV radiation than in most places. Like you get sunburned if you sit outside for 1 minute. The conditions vary greatly depending on where people are in the world and this of course affects the inside conditions as well. Direct sunlight during summer is a no for most plants for me, unless they're cacti or something. Even indirect light needs to be filtered through thicker curtains as it will still burn your plant.

Have you ever had an oncidium that started new growths from 2 eyes and seemed to alternate growth spurts? Mine in particular is an unknown hybrid, being grown from a back bulb, so I have been waiting a long time for it, and am wondering if I should just let it be, or potentially remove one of the growths so it could focus its energy on one. 😬

Question. A phalaenopsis I saved from certain death, now that leaves are a sturdy green, is putting out really skinny new roots. What more do I need to do? It had very little to work with.

I do find the spray-on fertilisers are excellent for any set-up which leaves the roots bare; with a tiny collection (5 orchids at the moment), I struggled so much to mix up concentrated fertiliser appropriately, so buying it pre-mixed is perfect for me. The larger bottle of MSU spray from RepotMe lasts me...half a year? It never touches the foliage, just the roots after watering. So those sprays do have their uses, just...not for foliar feeding 🤣

Hi, you have a beginner tutorial in the description of my videos :)

  • @reawilkinson9521

I have 3 phal's growing keikis. I cut the flower spikes off them, repotted them as per your videos with mostly bark with a couple layers of sphagnum moss. I learned the hard way about over watering (yup I killed a few) and I only water when they are dry and write it down on a calendar now. I bought repotme feed me fertilizer both for well and rain water as I use both. I fertilize for two waterings then just plain water for the third. I live in Canada and it has been a very cool spring and this trend is continuing. The temperature in the room they are in ranges from 18C to 23C. I keep the humidity in their room 50 to 60%. They get artificial light from barrinas that I have recently turned down to 50% as a couple of orchids that are blooming started to bud blast, the keikis started before I turned down the lighting. The three that have keikis seem healthy, growing new roots and leaves and I am hesitant to unpot them to look at all the roots but will if you think I should. Are keikis always due to stress on an orchid? Should I be worried? Help please!
PS After watching too many orchid care videos from too many people, I was overwhelmed and decided just to watch your videos for consistency. Thanks.
