I couldn't have asked for a better group to DM for the first time. It was terrifying, but oh so rewarding! YA! Bully breaking in at the end of my story? The only reason I can see for the first dm is that they don't want a child adventuring and risking getting injured in their campaign and wasn't willing to confront the player about the fact they can't play as a kid
First Story: Really wish the player had gone along with going home because it's dark for the same reason as the two of you. Like, what was the plan? I want to know what the DM would've done had OP just went home. Just sat around for three hours and a full session afterwards, every once in a while chiming in from the corner with "I'm in bed, dreaming about how cool it'd be to be running through a dungeon." Just reeeeeally make them feel bad for pulling crap like that.
I'm still trying to figure out how the cleric in the second story, moved, casted revivify, bonus action drank a potion, and made an attack all in one turn?
Premade characters can be useful, especially when dealing with onboarding a new player. But you have to do it right. Ideally there should be some room for the player to personalize their character, whilst also giving them a launching point. Something along the lines of "Elven Druid who left home to find a rare plant" works well, it gives the newbie a place to start when it comes to coming up with their character, but also there's plenty of things they can fill in themselves. There's room for the player to take that concept in a bunch of different directions and make the character their own, without completely overwhelming them. But an Escort and a Mistress of the BBEG, is just a no. Like there's a bunch of reasons why someone wouldn't want to play that character, and it's unnecessarily restrictive. What the fuck is someone supposed to do with that? Sure that concept can be interesting, and there are some interesting places you can take it, but you don't give someone else that concept to play without at least offering several alternatives in case they aren't into it. Play it yourself if you're so enamored with the concept by gods.
Honestly, the mom character in the first story sounds super fun to me. The only problem is that it just didn't really fit what the player was aiming for with the character. I'm getting the idea of a noble background wizard who has been studying magic since childhood with the very best tutors but then is forbidden by his worried mom from going out and doing anything with the magic. He sneaks away but his mom hires mercenaries to hunt him down and bring him home. The idea the dm had works. He just should have discussed it with the player to make sure it sounded fun to them. Could easily have just been a miscommunication though
18:03 (Horror) DM turned an NPC into a nightmare helicopter mom and made it awkward to adventure. 27:00 (Wholesome) The problem player left the table and the game improved drastically. 34:17 (Horror) The party premade a character that was an active escort and a mistress to the BBEG. (Title Card Story) 48:09 (Wholesome) DM took over DMing after the last one was toxic and removed. The gaming group flourished as a result!
Black widow the spider, not the comics one. A spider mostly known by the females being more venomous than the male counterpart and for the sexual cannibalism in which the females feast on the males after the deed is done. Due to the cannibalism is also a term that was used commonly when talking about women that kills their spouses/significant others. I say 'used' as it's been a long time since I heard it anywhere, but maybe I need to get out more.
I'm drinking water and eating a grilled chicken sandwich in preparation for the gym after work. I have been doing great since summer started studying for my career and play bg3 (sorcerer run). Also I think I finally found a tattoo design I want to get but you guys know the rule by now, sit on it for a week and see how we feel.
