    Add me to the list of Americans who has NEVER heard of stacking runny eggs on top of pancakes. Soft whipped butter and real maple syrup all the way! Then crispy bacon and sausage links on the side. I will admit to loving the maple syrup on the sausage, but I like the bacon all by itself so I can taste it without anything hiding that wonderful bacon-y flavor. And while I LOVE hash browns, I don't remember ever having them with pancakes in the same meal (too much starch in one meal). While you're in the USA, I agree with whoever said for you to try biscuits and gravy - especially if you're in one of the southern states. While in the south you should also try grits (as long as it's the real stuff, NOT instant).

The reason it's been so long since I have been to the Loveless is that the food is so good that there is a terrible wait for a table. As an American, who also lives in Washington State- the egg & bacon on top would be Ashley & Josh's preference. That's not how they come or are usually served. You'd typically have the pancakes, and eggs and bacon or sausage would be on the side. A lot of restaurants you have to pay extra for the eggs and bacon too- some places you only get the pancakes. Just so we're clear lol! Also- I've always used real maple syrup and we heat it in our household... COLD SYRUP ON HOT PANCAKES IS A CRIME.

    Usually, in American restaurants pancakes are served in one dish; and the eggs, hash browns, and sausage or bacon are served in another. I’ve never seen eggs served on top of the pancakes and certainly not bacon. That must be a personal preference of Ashley & Josh. Also, there is no rule against using knives to cut your pancakes. In restaurants a knife would be included with the tableware for each diner. At least in all of the restaurants I’ve eaten in from California to New York that has been the case.

    I was born in Indiana and now live in Florida and I have never put bacon and eggs ON pancakes. As in a previous comment, this seems to be how Ashley and Josh prefer pancakes, but I don't find it typical. Pancakes smothered in butter and maple syrup with sausage patties or links to the side is how you would get them in any IHOP (International House of Pancakes) that I've ever been to. If you added eggs to your meal, they would be plated separately with a biscuit, corn bread or toast on the side. Then again, we all have our individual preferences.

    Looks delicious. I can't speak for all Americans but usually with pancakes in my experience everything except the butter and syrup there goes on the side. The breakfast meats and the eggs both. And you'd just take a bite of each as preferred. Me personally I like my pancakes with lots of butter and syrup and bacon on top and sometimes I'd even eat it like a little wrap but that's my own thing.
    But eggs are usually on the side either scrambled or scrambled with cheese or sunny side up or over easy or whatever. I like poached too but that's less common unless Hollandaise, Canadian Bacon and an English Muffin are involved.

    • @MGmirkin
      @MGmirkin Год назад

      Slight exception... "bacon pancakes," like "blueberry pancakes" or "banana pancakes" **are** apparently a thing.
      Cook the bacon strips half way, then pou the pancake batter over them and allow that to cook, thus cooking the bacon the rest of the way. Flip the pancake and cook the bottom, and you've got "bacon pancakes."
      Not sure I'm a fan, but for those who are, it's a thing...

    I first visited the USA in 1995 and was recommended to go to Denny’s for breakfast. There for a very reasonable price I not only had all the things on your plate but was also given a small portion of whipped cream. Everything arrived on the same plate but was spread around rather than in a pile in the middle. This meant that I treated the pancakes syrup and cream as one part of the breakfast and the rest as the other rather than mixing them together. I’m now wondering what I missed.

      At restaurants you get to choose what you want to mix in what way. Putting sweet syrup on bacon, sausage, ham or fried chicken on your breakfast plate is common. Putting syrup on pancakes or waffles is practically obligatory. They’re too dry otherwise.

    • @georgelurye6274
      @georgelurye6274 4 года назад +3

      @@JohnRS100 This is a cultural quirk of the United States. It's basically assumed that you can have things on your plate customized, within reason, to your liking. This is generally the case in most restaurants, but especially in "diner" style casual ones. They may let you know they cannot accommodate some things, but the general assumption is that anything is game for changing. I realize it's not often the case in restaurants in Europe. Just letting you know the culture here is a bit different. It is not uncommon to ask for something "on the side" when it usually comes inside or on top of the dish. You could always ask for the egg and bacon to be on top, if you desire. The understanding there is that since you're paying, you can dictate how it should look on your plate. That's not completely the case in high end restaurants where chefs plate according to artistic standards, but even then, you can ask for some substitutions or deletions.

    America has the most delicious maple syrup from Vermont. It rivals any other. I love to use maple syrup drizzled over yams or sweet potatoes, with some freshly chopped rosemary, then baked, instead of using brown sugar. My favorite American pancake/griddlecake/flapjack, etc., is buckwheat banana walnut, or pumpkin spice with pecans, served with whipped butter and maple syrup. This served with a glass of fresh-squeezed OJ, and a cup of coffee or tea is all you need until dinner. It's so good! I think the egg and bacon placed on top of the pancakes is a regional thing. As an American, I have never actually seen it served that way before. Nevertheless, it is certainly worth a try since I do enjoy savory and sweet combinations.

Many people eat their family-style, crisp bacon for some, rubbery for others. Regional favorites like waffles and chicken, but popular in Omaha NE. We like our brunch though!

    When you come to America you need to try BBQ, it varies from area to area. From sauce to dry rub. Grits and chicken and waffles in the south. Here in Ohio it's biscuits covered with fried potatoes, eggs, all covered with sausage gravy or cream dried beef. Tex Mex in the south west.

    Never seen anyone eat eggs on top of their pancakes. I don’t like butter, so I only use syrup. I most certainly will use a knife if necessary.
    I’m actually upset now that no one sat beside me and taught me the proper way to eat my first full English breakfast!
    Omg! You guys have to try a McGriddle from McDonald’s! I thought it would be weird, and it was delicious!

    NO no no.... this is in no way correct. Pancakes go on one plate, the eggs and bacon go on a separate plate... NEVER eggs and bacon on top of a stack of pancakes! This is how it is also served in restaurants that do breakfast meals. As with the majority of the comments, this seems to be the consensus. Good grief where did Ashley and Josh get the idea to do it that way? They must come from some strange area of North America where this is acceptable breakfast plating .... *shakes head* no no no never

    Yup good ol American breakfast and that stuff is good. I've actually had the eggs cooked inside the pancake in the middle with the yolk medium well. I've also had fried egg on top. Pancakes here can mix with different side items like fruits, chocolate or ham. You two look like you enjoyed it a lot. 🍴🍳

    Most Americans will recognize syrup (authentic maple, or artificial “pancake syrup” like the Mrs. Butterworths that Josh mentioned) primarily for pancakes, but also often enjoyed with sausage or bacon (usually sausage). Eggs, no matter the style, are NOT typically served with syrup. Traditional American breakfast has TWO “sauces”: 1. syrup, and 2. egg yolk (when eggs are runny). Remove the incredibly buttery & sweet pancakes & syrup (I do), and you still have a delicious savory combo of meat & eggs, which is typically served with *toast* (which can be used to mop up runny egg, or be spread with butter &/or jelly). The eggs & syrup thing must be a Way Away thing.

    All these people complaining about pancakes being served on a separate plate have apparently never cooked their own breakfast and only get it from a restaurant. At home we use one plate for everything. Has your yolk never run into your pancake and syrup on your eggs??
    On the farm this is exactly how we eat our breakfast. The key is runny yolked over easy or sunny side up egg. Then you have the yolk to sop up with your pancake. Sooo good. If the yolks are over cooked then we just eat them separate. If we have French toast I also keep them separate. It's all personal preference.
    I'd venture that those who have never tried it have no spirit of adventure.

If you go south, you’ll definitely want to try some good American southern food (bbq, mac n cheese, mash potatoes, etc). West coast and Texas will have good Texmex. And definitely try the local beer wherever you go! Sounds like you will be here for thanksgiving, which means you are in for probably one of the biggest, yummiest, and the unhealthiest meal you’ll ever eat. Enjoy!

    Great video and reminds me of my business trips to the US. Us Brits had no chance at all. We gained half a stone every week we went there. The real killer was the real US fried donuts which were served up at 1100 by our hosts. Of course we devoured them; the Americans mostly ignored them. We passed on lunch.:)

    I love seeing the difference in the way our two cultures do things differently. As long as we are not trying to make a competition with it, it is fun to compare and contrast our individual styles. I am a Californian (San Diego) and would never EVER put an egg on top of my pancakes. I actually prefer to have my eggs on a separate plate (like they do in many restaurants) so the eggs don't get syrup on them. I also skip the bacon altogether.
    I hear that chicken and waffles are a popular breakfast down in the south. I have never tried them but it does not sound very good! But that's what is great about our country. Diversity!!!

    No criticism to either custom here! I've learned from watching British tv that most usually eat with both hands actively involved at all times. One hand for the fork, the other for the knife. I was raised from the time of learning to use utensils. 'One' politely eats with a fork, one cuts with a knife, if cutting is necessary, you cut with the knife, then lay it on the edge of the plate, and eat with the fork. Repeat as necessary. I have seen some in the U.S. use both hands actively, but in the Appalachians..settled by real Brits..and isolated still, the customs remain. The British method does seem more efficient...
