My Dad has an apple orchard and growing up we picked apples by hand, pressed cider and sold it at local markets. We probably made maybe 1000-2000 gallons a year. She is right, it's a very traditional seasonal thing here in the USA. but lately alcoholic cider drinks are becoming popular. My Dad would always make a barrel of hard cider for himself and his friends every year to enjoy throughout the winter. Great video guys.
I first discovered cider in Scotland years ago and loved it, then went back to the US and there wasn't too many options. Thankfully now it's more popular and easier to get a hold of in the US!
My Dad grew up on Orchards. Because of prohibition they made non-alcoholic Cider. Now in the USA if you want fermented cider, you ask for hard Cider. There are currently hundreds of hard Cider producers, mainly small craft ciders.
I want to know where your friends are from, because cider is pretty common now. Some very popular brands include Angry Orchard and Woodchuck. It’s consumed all year round unless you’re talking about apple cider which is the juice drink they’re referencing. I’ve tried a bunch of flavored ciders, especially at EPCOT at DisneyWorld. My favorite include pumpkin and elderberry!
Jessica Hall Apple ciders, pear ciders and all type of other fruit ciders are plentiful in the Northeast. My local supermarkets have dozens of brands. Those two are country bumpkins from the middle of nowhere.
You guys are so wonderful. Total fanboy here. I also really like the pairing with Way Away. Alex, there is a new "Beans Out" standard now. Lastly, great outros on the last two vlogs. Nice previews. 👍👍☺
The Pickled Beans Way pt. 2... ;) I don't think I've had more than a sip of cider since I was a teenager... The closest I've come is a Belgian Gueuze (beer made with fruit)... LoL @ Ash's outro... :)
@@TravelBeans they make a couple mediocre ciders cheddar Valley & Trad, their redstreak and redwood used to be their best but they don't do it anymore. The rest tastes like cough syrup.
Just wondering; have you ever been to Germany in the Frankfurt area? have you ever tried 'Ebbelwoi'? what do you think about it? What do Ashley and Josh think about 'Ebbelwoi'?
20 years ago I worked in Yeovil for a short period. I asked the storekeeper our depot if he could get me some proper Scrumpy. Sure enough he turned up some days later with a half gallon plastic container of the stuff. Took it to my local Social Club at the weekend where myself and my drinking buddies had half a pint each. We were half cut by the time we finished the half pint!!! I knew what was coming because I had lived on the Isle of Wight and had their local Scrumpy. I do not consider flavoured Apple drinks (alcoholic or not) to be cider! Give me a glass of Scrumpy anyday!! The Apple wine you had reminds me of Merrydown Cider.
There are many nice cideries in the US now that I think you'd be impressed with. Honestly, ❤ Josh & Ashley, but their world view of "cider" is limited. If you say where you're planning to visit, I'd be more than glad to recommend the best ones that aren't too far.
Lol my brother visited US and drinks cider rather than beer, and they kept thinking he was ordering non alcoholic, and asked him is it the HARD CIDER you want then, it really confused him to begin with 😂😂
Ahmed AlShalchi Of course. Cider actually means an unfiltered pressed juice. The tradition in Europe was to ferment it to low alcohol levels in order to preserve it through the year. Non-alcoholic cider eventually became preferred to be filtered and called “juice” in most places.
Class video! How long are you in Sandford for? I am taking my girlfriend to the tour from Bristol and would love to have a chat with you guys about Liverpool and Cider :)
Cheers Dan! That would have been awesome! But unfortunately we've already left.. currently visiting family in the southeast before heading to the US. But maybe next time we're in Brisol.. 👍 Enjoy Sandford though! The food at the Railway is also really great.. highly recommended
Subscribed to there channel now had to after seeing the crazy pair have peanut butter and bloody maple syrup the will not like a good old English breakfast surely come on Alex get your master chef whites on chief and cook up a proper breakfast ;) love the work as always COOOKKEEEOUUUTTT!!!
What the f**k was that Ashley! In the cider love in I'm not a massive cider drinker, it's more of a occasional treat. Used to drink it more in my younger years, had some heavy nights on the old rosey and cheddar valley
As for Rosé .. We visited a restaurant and as we had to wait to be seated, we ordered wine. My friend's wife suggested Rosé. I then explained at length since this was not Wimbledon and we considered ourselves versed in good wine that we should not be seen dead with Rosé.... until I noted two Rugby players (well they looked like that) and their wives in adjacent seats with a bottle of Rosé between them. Silence fell.
T T Okay, first off, Rosé wine and Rosé cider are completely unrelated. Second, both can be of extremely high quality and vintage. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Rosé, at all. Rosé cider is usually made with dry varieties of apples that have pink flesh.
@@afcgeo882 Understand and accept the reproof on wine vs cider. I love good wine and spend a lot on it (living in the UK). Friends have tried me on two occasions with expensive rosé to no avail. It is all down to personal preference. Conversely I served up a superb Oz Semillon only to be told to pour it down the sink. So it goes both ways:)
I always wondered why I didn't like Americans. This confirms my opinion. I am a regular customer of Thatcher's Cider - but I would hate to visit and be confronted with such awful ignorance and noisy braying from such ignorant sorts. Unfortunately ir is difficult to avoid US tourists wherever you travel.

Go to Somerset and end up in Thatcher's ...Why didn't you take them to somewhere which makes proper cider?
Thatcher's is class!

Gerd Papenburg I just trued it for the first time this past August and thought it was fantastic. Really easy to drink and refreshing.
Never been but would love to go and try it someday!

Thatchers Cider is ok. But I think the American lady would love to have Dickens cider.
Hahahahaha
the UK drinks more cider in total, not per capa then any other country infact the UK drinks more than all the other countries combined in total.

Is it true that you throw something protein eg dead animal in vat when making cider!?

Can cider be without any alcohol 0.0% ?

In the US, cider that is fermented & has alcohol content is called hard cider! 🎃🍎🍏🍎🎃
Is soft cider just apple juice then?
Sounds tasty. But I suppose I’m just a beer guy🍺💁🏽♂️
UK autumn
US fall because leaf fall from tree
We call it "hard cider" on the West Coast.
mountainhobo I’m in California and where I live, it’s just cider. It’s always been on offer during my adulthood which started in the late 80’s.

As a member of the Somerset community 😀 Thatchers isn’t a top quality cider imo
Don't usually like posh people but these seem alright like.
