This is my second one. We have it outside the garage door exposed to the elements yearound ruclips.net/user/postUgkxreK_FUQ74_bylFqCr3y2MHqL3u78-b3r Direct sunlight deteriorated the plastic on the thermostat and severe winds blew the lid off. We found it about an acre away. I bought a new one and I saved the good parts from the old one as spares. Got about 8 years out of the first one.

Two years ago, the igniter of our grill stopped working and we ordered a replacement. Once we got it, my mom asked me to replace it, but I told her I didn't know how. She told me to look it up on RUclips, because you can find any solution to any problem on RUclips. Sure enough, this was the first result, and it worked out very well. Your instructions were precise yet easy to understand. After watching, I was able to change it easily. It still works well to this day. I just want to thank you for the help. Very well done.

Wanted to take a moment to thank you for this excellent, step-by-step, all-inclusive instructional video surrounding changing the battery in the igniter and/or switching out the entire igniter system. My father passed in 2000, and he was always my "go-to" guy when something mechanical has gone awry. I actually had tears in my eyes while watching this video because the manner in which you teach/instruct is so very similar to the manner in which my father would have helped. Thanks . . . for the instruction, and for the memory.

Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I just pulled my 2008 Weber E-310 out for the Summer and went through the yearly checks of ensuring it's safe to use (hoses, burners, flavorizer bars, grates, tank mount, igniter. The igniter button didn't produce that quiet and familiar clicking sound and, upon inspection, found the battery in the igniter had corroded (didn't even remember when it was last changed). When I attempted to gently remove it, a metal pin of some type inside fell out of the battery tube. So I decided I probably needed to replace the igniter. First thing I did was to call Weber for the correct part # and purchased this kit 2 days ago from my local authorized Weber dealer to replace the igniter on my 2008 Weber Genesis E-310 (that's the model you have. The E-320 has the side burner). The Weber part # for this specific igniter kit is 67847. It's readily available through either Weber or grillparts.com, if you don't have a well-stocked Weber dealer nearby.
Although I'm not much of a DIYer, I'm going to install it this evening (first time I'll have ever done a repair to a grill). It looks to be fairly straight forward from your video. Thanks again for taking the time to go over the installation.
Quick follow-up: I was able to change out the entire igniter switch system yesterday evening without any problems. Thanks, again, for your step by step "how to" video.

Great video, thanks for putting it together. For anyone else looking to fix their ignitor, here are couple of preliminary steps:
    1. change the battery
    2. check for corrosion on both of the battery contacts (this is the most common problem)
    3. if some of the burners are igniting, check the electrical connections

Very useful video, it shows well how the igniter is assembled. The problem in my case was just oxidation of contacts, deep cleaning solved the issue. When you remove the plastic cap for changing the battery if you keep it in your left hand and push the button with the right thumb you see two small contact stripes on the sides. When you push the button those are supposed to touch the spring that you see inside the hole and close the circuit. I cleaned them and now it works fine. Check that before disassembling the whole thing.

Just bought this e-310 used at an estate sale. This old e-310 Weber grill doesn't have any rust on the body anywhere except the burners aren't all shiny and new looking, but they aren't rusted out either. Good job Weber for making an excellent quality gas grill!
Anyway, Thanks for making this video Steve. The igniter is the only thing NOT functioning because the battery exploded inside. Your video is still relevant 11 years later.
Weber doesn't make it easy to find the igniter parts for their old grills. My igniter has the part number 1819-51 on it, but Weber's website doesn't have it listed anywhere on their website. There are lots of Chinese knock offs on Amazon. I'll give Weber a call before I buy a cheap knock off since the old one lasted so long. Besides Weber deserves our business even if it's just ordering a part.
I'll definitely only buy Webers going forward!
Again, thanks for the great video Steve!
Appreciate the time and effort you put into making it!
    Cheers!

Glad the old video helped, Doug!

thanks for your video! i'm late to the party, but i wanted to share another repair method that works without having to buy new ignitor assembly.
my repair method with this style of ignitor was to clean the contacts on the upper push button and lower receptacle with automotive electrical contact cleaner (wet the contact and use a small screwdriver or pic while still wetted) to clean the terminals back to shiny. reassemble and test with new battery for spark. then, most important step - - remove battery and put a dab of dielectric grease on the top and bottom of the battery to prevent the contacts from corroding again, reassemble and confirm function. i also put dielectric grease on the plug-in terminals for good measure. $22 saved vs purchasing a new one, and it only takes about 10 mins to do this. cheers.

Just setting up a new Weber Spirit and couldn't figure how the igniter worked. Thought it was broken. Come to find out we were expecting the igniter button to push 1/4" or so down to send a spark. Come to find out, we weren't pushing and holding the button long enough to hear the switch working. It barely moves. Simple solution! All is well with the new grill. Thanks for the video.

Posting this in case it helps someone else.. i have a spirit ii 2 burner and I thought my ignitor was bad. Took it completely off and put it back on. Changed battery. Then I found the problem. With old batteries the battery compartment can get corrosion. Clean off the spring wires in the battery cap and inside the compartment with a toothbrush. If it's really bad try some baking soda mixed in water. Let it air dry over night. I just used my finger nail. Then pull on both springs a little bit to make them longer, not too hard just pull a little bit. The problem is that the spring on the cap needs to make contact with the spring inside the battery housing or else the negative end of the battery cant connect to the ignition system. Once I realized this and got them to make good contact the ignition started working like new. Best of luck my WEBER people.

Thanks Todd. Thats why I made it - to help save others some of the time it took me to find the right igniter.

Very nicely done. I agree gas grills are great especially on week nights when there is not as much time. But I can always kick up the flavor a few notches with my charcoal grills. I love Weber grills. It is a great idea to have both gas and charcoal. In fact having a Weber gas and a Weber kettle is a great combination. I often use both at the same time.

Thank you for this video Steve. This was a big help. I have the same genesis grill as you which I bought used and was not sure how to fix the ignitor. Turned out all I needed was a new battery. But now I know how to change the ignitor as well when the time comes. Thanks again, much appreciated.

Yes I have cooked pizza several times directly on the grate of my Weber Kettle over a mixture of pecan and lump embers. Once you get your method down you can get fantastic results. Use the gas grill to prep the toppings like sauteing mushrooms, grilling onions, or crisping up pepperoni in a cast iron skillet. Crust will burn this way if you try to cook long enough to do anything but melt the cheese. I have also cooked pizza on my ceramic grills on a pizza stone which is also excellent.

Great video, thank you. You can also do a quarter twist on the igniter switch to keep it firmly in place. Weber makes a great beer-can chicken contraption that works very well.

Thank you for the tips. I put a new igniter right out of the Weber box on my grill today and it provided no spark. I took the battery out and there was a piece of plastic between the spring and the housing preventing the circuit from being completed. I used a small screwdriver to pry it out, put the battery back in and it worked. So much for quality control by Weber.
