  • This video will show you a faster and cheaper solution for fixing your igniter for your Weber Genesis grill. This is not for the Genesis II series.
    I found a generic igniter for $18 vs Weber's $40 part. I also replaced the heat deflectors with some stainless steel parts for $23. All parts are available at Amazon.

    I buy everything based on reviews. Some said this was hard to put together ruclips.net/user/postUgkxCx5fHawkK9OoV-ojFrY8JLnZrFwAmvUt some guy said 2 hours and 2 beers later. I didn't drink beer like I was going to. I didn't feel like going to the store. I'm assuming I would have had at least 3. I took my time. Stepped outside for a cigarette break a couple times but all in all it was about a 3 hour project for me but it wasn't like it was difficult or anything . Only pictures but everything is pretty organized and labeled although I didn't see any #s on the actual pieces like it shows in the diagrams. Only the screws were labeled. On the cardboard part of the packaging on the back side. I put it together in my living room too. It wasn't supposed to rain today but it's Michigan and I couldn't wait so I put it together in my living room. Without beer but beer would definitely have made it more fun that's for sure. I'm giving this a 5 for easy assembly. I'll update after it stops raining when I can take it out of my living room and cook some food on it. Hope this helps at least for people who think they can't put this together because I did and you can too . And there are extra screws. I got nervous and immediately came here to see if others had the same experience and they have. You're not doing it wrong. There will be extra screws. Be patient. Don't rush it. Drink beer. Happy assembling

    I always take a cursory glance at directions before I do anything no matter how easy the fix and when direction #1 said to take of the grill lid I was like "Nooooooooo FN way should this be that complicated much less removing everything else!" As I suspected, it wasn't. After finding your quick tutorial as to what the probable problem actually stems from (the box) I saved myself a whole lotta time. 5 minute $20 fix when you have the knowledge on board. Thank you!

    Thanks, just replaced mine, took all of 15min max! All of the igniter wires were just fine, though I did add a dab of dielectric grease to every wire connection post on the igniter.

    I`m hear just to replace the battery but am now prepared when the time comes when this will be needed. Thanks for including the deflectors in the post, super helpful so I ordered them in the package deal that also included flavorizer bars. This grill was gifted to me by my sister so I`m quite sure they've never been replaced.Looking forward to seeing the performance improving.Nice job on the video too.

    This coming from a guy who’s never really fixed/repaired anything of any importance in my 67 years .
    Went to start the grill yesterday no igniter sound called Ace Hardware, they said it’s probably the battery, replace the battery, no luck.
    Found your video and going to order the piece today.
    An unbelievably easy tutorial to follow and understand …

    Sometimes, and more likely the cause of it not igniting is the actual button itself. The metal strip on the button has oxidized or corroded to the point it doesn't conduct electricity from the battery anymore. Any easy way to test this is to use a multi-meter to test if the ends have conductivity. A simple fix is just strip some electrical wire and run it along the metal strip from the inside to the outside and stick the battery back in, making sure the negative end of the battery touches the raw wire. Basically the raw wire will conduct your electricity from the battery into the metal cylinder instead of the strip. This is virtually a no-cost fix if u have a spare wire laying around and a wire stripper tool.

    I took the entire front off. Glad I did. Found a nice nest inside. All the screws were rusted. Used a vice grip to get the off. One broke off. Fortunately I had a tap set. Drilled it out and re-tapped the treads.

      It's still working great. I won't buy weber branded replacements any longer. The aftermarket parts are much cheaper and in many cases better quality. I replaced my burner tubes about a month ago with stainless versions, big savings. I made a video for that too.

    Just curious, does the ignitor fire all four burners? If so, why would the wire plug colors have to be matched? Or better yet, why are they even separated?

    • @GaryQuiring
      @GaryQuiring  2 года назад +1

      It's 3 burners. I agree the color matching probably does not matter. I would guess they are separated so you can easily replace a single igniter.

      @@GaryQuiring Oh, I missed that. I'm refurbishing a freebie Genesis 330 with the extra "sear station" burner and haven't fully examined the wiring yet, other than finding that they were all burned up because of a rotted-out heat shield behind the sear station. The switch box does also have the same four color-coded outlets on it though. I ordered a new one, so I'm going to take the old one apart to see what makes it tick.
      Thanks for making this helpful video, especially the part about keeping the wires in their clips away from the firebox.

      I'm not impressed with any part of the grill. I had to replace the porcelain grates by the 2nd year and then those flavor bars go every 3 years or so. The heat deflectors also are poor quality but I replaced them with stainless steel versions. I also just ordered some stainless flavor bars from a 3rd party manufacturer.
