I actually love the bolo punch. It is my favorite variation of the uppercut and my most effective. I know it has it's flaws but so does every other punch.
I gotta say some of your videos are a bit lacky in info and a bit short. But this one was amazing. Absolutely full of great information, id love to see more videos like this thank you!
If you slow it down you can see the mechanics of the move/kick/punch/whatever. I select .25 speed to break it down. Look at hips and torso, arms, shoulder, everything. You will see it.
Thank you for this! My husband is saying that I shouldn't twist and bend my knees when I do my uppercuts. Been thinking I may be wrong as I see some trainees do #5. Now I'm convinced my coach is right all along!
Great video! I always find nuggets of insight I hadn't thought of on this channel. As to #5, I like to have my students practice uppercuts off of a slip, drawing the shoulder toward the opposite knee to produce the body movement you demonstrated here. Also, for those who keep using too much arm, I have them grab their ear when loading up for the punch and then they can let go once they stand up into the uppercut. Thanks for this awesome content!
Hello sir, i m new to mma , only 1 year as of now. I really find your video helpful and see you as my second trainer next to my original trainer in dojo . I see your videos in slow motion so that i dont miss anything u teach. With ur guidance ,i hope i will become decent fighter one day. Thank you again... keep guiding the aspirant newbie fighters like me.
I‘m a girl, getting into self defense (in case it‘s necessary). I did a lot of weight training the past years so there definitely is some strength, just the technique is missing. So thank you a lot, these videos go more in depth about common mistakes that just waste energy!
As always these videos are perfect. Have been boxing for about two months now, and been working on perfecting my jab and cross thanks to you, but I’m looking to work on new moves and combos. Keep up the good work!
Great video on uppercuts... 1 thing my coach taught me 2 years ago was to throw the uppercut more in the middle of my body. Just like you said, don't throw it outside of ur body or like mortal kombat. But I still practice this and its to bring it up where my elbow is rising right infront of my vertical line of my abs to create more power.
number 3 iv seen George foreman walk upto a guy and do exactly that combo, left uppercut right hook and it just decimated him! so clean and he makes it look so easy lol
Hassan Islam point is that power is useless without technique and he was much better technically than many people (including some of the guys fighting him!) thought I do think he is the most devastating puncher to ever get in a ring, his body shots can and did do long term damage to people!
1. Practice upper cut to body on heavy bag 2. Uppercut is a close ranged move. Be close 3. Use if opponent is always ducking head or shorter. 4. Don't overexaggerate movement, uppercut then hook is good combo because uppercut brings their head out of their guard. 5. Not angled but straight up 6. Not a curl movement, starts at the feet, knees, hips, core, shoulder, fist. Less arm movement and keep gap small as possible for more guard.
Watching it so I can play fitness boxing properly, anyone else? LOL. Very informative and helped immensely. The in game tutorial was not very accurate... the whole time I felt my movements were not a smooth flow, because I was doing things wrong haha!
I love your Videos I've Been Boxing for 7 years and Took 2 years off do to work and having a kid but I found my self getting sloppy and forgetting to throw my punches these videos help a lot and lit a fire 🔥 in me that's slowly making me love Boxing once again
The distance thing is super important in uppercuts AND hooks. I threw a hook from too far away in sparring last week and was already thinking about the next shot in my head so I flexed my arm too late. My buddy blocked right before I flexed my arm (my hand was also too high above my shoulder angle-wise) and my shoulder popped right out. Ouch... Always be in close when you throw that stuff and stay calm + concentrate on what youre throwing when you're throwing it.
Nothing teaches you how to throw a straight uppercut more than a horizontal bag. If you throw an upper to one of those bags without your hand and forearm aligned correctly you receive great pain. Ouch! Also, Nadeem chopped heads with those long corkscrew uppers. He always loved to side-step to the outside at an angle while delivering that long upper in between the opponents' guard. Great stuff! Thanks for the video, Shane, great tips
Wanted to show a buddy that just started striking, a correct uppercut. Quick search on RUclips and clicked on this video first. This is exactly what I wanted him to see. Perfect.
I completely understand what your saying about the distance however I have seen many times mcgregor going for an upper cut from mid-range especially in that first fight again Diaz and also in his ufc debut against Marcus brimage
Great point! However, something worth taking note: he didn't throw that as much in the 2nd fight, because he wasn't able to put him away with the uppercut. Instead, he went back to the straight lefts. Also check out the "bolo" punch that McGregor likes to use a lot. Awesome comment, man!
Sometimes the pro's can break the basic because they know wat they are doing. They operate in a higher level alrdy, it's important to differentiate n make it less predictable as at this level , almost aevryone perfected their basics people like connor, muhammad ali, roy jones, anderson silva, ggg etc
Shane i have bewn watching your content for a long while now and i have to say.. you a an outstanding instructor. You do well by explaining the basics... shows you actually have expierence.. anyways i just wanted to say keep it up im sure you motivate people everyday.. Merry christmas and happy holidays!
The only rational I can see so an angled uppercut is if you are doing a smash like how Ruddock would do. Amazing for crushing guards and mix up KOs but it must be used properly as it can leave you exposed if they dodge it or smother it. Great videos! New fan
Make your own one Just grab a rice bag and put 1 quarter of sawdust and the rest is filled with sand (you can get them for free if you do woodwork just ask the teacher for some sawdust because they want to throw it away for the sand go to the beach and grab some) if you can't hang in a wall make a boxing stand you can get free wood and put like bucket of water so it makes strong
Hi Shane, great video! I wonder if I could use a very short clip for a Golf training video? We use an almost identical technique to to generate power in a golf swing. Of course I will credit your channel and put a link in the description.
Shane, PLEASE do a How to Fight Like Ronda Rousey......without the back to back loss. I'm a really big fan of her and you and am looking to improve my own fighting skills.
1.Get close range to throw
2.Throw when available
3.Throw with little to no telegraphing
4.Throw straight up the center
5.Throw with entire body
Thx bro
*Me thinking about throwing my entire body to a lake*
6. Make sure u subscribe before ur opponent does
"FINISH HIM"
Shane: No, don't do that.
"OK"
love this guy; short, straight to the point. every time. I understood so much in a 4 mins video than a $40/1hr class in a local gym. 😅
Why you calling him short?! 😂😂
@@sludgerat666 I think he meant he keeps his videos short
I actually love the bolo punch. It is my favorite variation of the uppercut and my most effective. I know it has it's flaws but so does every other punch.
Lmao, no mortal kombat. Hahahah

Thanks for the feedback, Alec!
fightTIPS to be honest I only watch you for your boxing and training videos
fightTIPS you are great man just great. i wish i could mimic the muscle memory youve acquired thus far. downright beautiful. no homo
Hey man you seem to know a bit about fighting, can you review one of my fights on my channel and give me some tips
If you slow it down you can see the mechanics of the move/kick/punch/whatever. I select .25 speed to break it down. Look at hips and torso, arms, shoulder, everything. You will see it.
You forgot the clasical Shoryuken uppercut, easly seen on Street fighter.
Hard but effective.
And the Tiger uppercut.
lol
Sonic boom!
nah kazumi's tiger uppercut from tekken
Your tips are always great, but I wish I could learn from you in actual lessons. that'd be awesome
I've been working on my uppercuts lately, and this helped me even more. Thanks Shane!
Thank you for this! My husband is saying that I shouldn't twist and bend my knees when I do my uppercuts. Been thinking I may be wrong as I see some trainees do #5. Now I'm convinced my coach is right all along!
Great Tyson reference. I was thinking of how he'd seemingly "sit down" to load up his power for a devastating upper cut.
Great video! I always find nuggets of insight I hadn't thought of on this channel.

I'll keep this one in mind, thank you! My ears are going to kill me, but my technique needs this haha. Thank you!

Christmas is fake
Amazing uppercut, hook combo. I do boxing and it's great to come on this channel and get extra information to implement in my game.
One of the best tips and one of the best demos I have seen outside of a gym. Great work sir, keep 'em coming. The tips, not the uppercuts...
Thanks Shane 💯
*GREAT CHANNEL*
Great advice at the end with the minimal arm movement. Awesome videos, Shane.
Love that your videos are so short and so helpful
Your voice and mannerisms are very clear, clean, and precise. You could do broadcasting, if you wanted.
uppercuts are the trickiest for me to learn compared to other basic punches, thanks for the video
number 3 iv seen George foreman walk upto a guy and do exactly that combo, left uppercut right hook and it just decimated him! so clean and he makes it look so easy lol

eatthisvr6 ok
@@hassanislam7227 No, he didn't. Sonny liston and earnie shavers hit harder then foreman.

Thanks for the advice, Shane. And Merry Christmas.
Great vids Shane. A lot of this stuff are things I should already know, but somehow have forgotten due to sloppy habits/losing focus during training.

Very wonderful video. Thank you very much
Best videos for boxing techniques.
What an explanation Shane. Many thanks...
Shane could you do a breakdown or Fight like on Guillermo Rigondeaux?
Can you do a video on how to do those long range slapping hooks?

So simple and logical, very well explained. All the info you need, just need to put in the practice myself.
Shane's just brilliant. Cheers for good videos man x
I agree, what we call in London a screw shot is totally different to a uppercut
This video was super helpful Shane! Hope to see more of these
00:30 Unless your name is Roy Jones Jr. of course
CJ Nonya Cole or prince naseem
Ajib Aktar naz never got ko'd
Mcgregor has made it work a few times in his early UFC career aswell.
ThePat1221 Not like Roy. Roy did one punch ko'es with that.
Some fighters do you have an unusual technique and they can manage to pull it off.

one of the best fight channels, i love you shane! have a nice 2017
Awesome video! I really underestimated the uppercut. I thought mine are good but I missed a lod of details, thanks Shane!
Believe me, this guy is giving excellent technical advice.
Really liked this video! My son can really learn from this video. He definitely uses too much arm movement. Thanks!
You're a really good teacher
Thanks. It's a great video and you made it very short and precise. Great
Can you make a video on how to throw basic punches and kicks properly (slow motion)?
Great teaching,, yes.
greatly enjoy your videos, great attitude and enthusiasm in them. Always gives me something to think on

Shane your tips are very useful and has helped me a lot. You're a great teacher! I'm glad I found your channel. :)
Good video been trying to perfect the uppercut
Thanks man - I really enjoy that video! Your uppercut looks smooth.
wish I had a heavybag in my garage like you
yes the price is not the problem, the problem is that I live in an apartment not a house :( but I still get to train on the heavybag in the club tho
Joe Margaryan ah ok. Well at least you still get to train with one!
And there is not enough place in the garage because the there is only place for my parents car

Make your own one
