Keenan is obviously a bright guy and it's great to hear him talk. I have heard some horrible stuff about Irvin, criminal activities he was involved in before BJJ.
Irvin was his sponsor somewhere around 2009-2011.
Irvin has been around for decades before mma was mainstream

Watching this and experiencing my local jiujitsu gym beefs and secrets, makes me think that every if not all gyms that have been around for a couple years, must have their own dirty secrets and conflicts with other gyms. What’s crazy, is I would bet that within each gym has an inner circle that knows about it, and a general public that doesn’t.
Over half the black belts I know have a sexual wrap sheet. It's pretty alarming at scale.
BJJ people are just people. Drama is inevitable.

There's a bjj gym in my country that ran an extortion racket by beating up the security guards in nightclubs and bars and then demanding protection money. The head coach fled to Brazil and can't come back because there's a warrant out for him.
We also have a guy who is the leader of a football club Ultras, he got into BJJ and MMA and has a few amateur cage fights. He also plays soccer in a low division so one time after arguing with a ref mid-game, he straight up clinches and knees the poor guy in the head.

When I saw this I thought of how crazy it was that there is a while generation of jiu jitsu players out there who have no idea of who Lloyd Irvin is and the craziness within his team.
Today is the first time I've heard his name. Do you have any suggested information I should look into besides the obvious Google search? I.e. specific interviews or documentaries

That's nonsense. They do some marketing and sales tactics that aren't for everyone, but they're hardly trying to form a cult. They also aren't abusing people or committing crimes like some of the other instructors out there
Around 2005-2007 ish I was at an affiliate gym of team Lloyd Irvin. I remember going down there for the big summits and immediately feeling a cult-like vibe. Very strange. He reminded me of an infomercial guy, he had grappling blueprints, and such and was an excellent marketer but I always got a creepy vibe from him.

My buddy got his black belt from him and the stories he tells shows how bizarre things were in MD.

I think you got it backwards. Keenan said he thought the Danaher team had the worse dark secrets - which Craig (along with probably most people listening) found surprising.
Or it was just a way to set up talking about Lloyd.
DDS does have a sex cult but instead of the leaders getting laid. They just watch.

Lloyd started on a very dingy rec center he took a bunch of inner city kids and took them all over the world competing and winning. However many didn't care for his team especially the yelling they'd perform certain moves on the mat. But Dominic Cruz,Brandon Vera,Rich Franklin and many more in ufc hadn't mentioned having issues

Cruz was regularly at the Camp Springs location while he was in the WEC. Camp springs is more inner city than anywhere in DC. It's basically south east on steroids.

Keenan probably one of the smartest guys in Jiu Jitsu, grappling and business.
Scary because while he seems like quite an intelligent guy and says quite a lot I agree with, he says so many false things in this podcast. He raises a bunch of fallacies and propagates a few false conspiracy theories and disproven pseudosciences like NLP. He even says “Alex Jones has been right about everything he’s said” when he’s been wrong about basically everything!

the reality is they are. Its not a fully safe environment for women. They will be prayed on by one of the guys who will use his hierarchy through belt and acomplishment to tet to score with the girl. Also when there is a reward system (money+classes award you s belt) fast tracking the road through certain favors is making it a cult.
I wad always like: i pay for the membership and thats it. No favors outside class we dont have to be buddies with the coach etc…
