      Ranger's hunter's mark concentration won't be broken by damage. Pretty much the same thing here bud. Only thing that'll break it is being incapacitated they'll both lose their turns. Also forgetting free castings of it to counter that fact and the fact that ranger still gets to do its full course of damage really even if its not up. I like draconic sorcerer changes (no resources needed for resistance, wings flying speed might actually compete with the fly spell now, and finally having an expanded spell list is huge) but the capstone feature could really use a tweak IMO. Being able to summon a dragon better than anyone else is really cool don't get me wrong, but I would much prefer if the capstone ability allowed the sorcerer themselves to become a dragon. Unless true polymorph has been added to the base sorcerer spell list, a draconic sorcerer still won't be able to fully become a dragon meanwhile classes like wizard and bard (with no connections to dragons) can. You could just tweak the draconic sorcerer capstone ability to being exactly what it is now, being able to cast summon dragon for free once a day without concentration, but with the option to instead cast true polymorph (with the limitation of only being able to choose dragon type monsters) on yourself for free once a day.

      It always works both way when it comes to the elemental damage type. The more common damage types (fire, poison) are also more resisted so if you have more chances to resist the damage, the monsters can against yours too. Less common damage type (lightning, acid, cold) meanwhile get less resisted so you don't get to use the resistance more often but monsters also are less likely to resist your damage.

    But can the Draconic Sorcerer cast True Polymorph in the 2024 book? The biggest issue for me was always that literally any Bard, Druid or Wizard can turn into an actual dragon (near permanently in the case of Bards and Wizards), while the *DRACONIC* sorcerer couldn't. because it stacked with other concentration damage stacking abilities, making it scale too much for free, having an always on 1d6 bonus, one of their level 3 subclass features(which basically every subclass gives another always on extra 1d8 damage), plus another 1d8 from say steelwind strike, so your level 5 Longbow Ranger on Round 1 does 4d8+1d6+12(8 from +4 Dex on 2 attacks+4 for Archery)+Advantage on the steelwind strike+30ft movement and 3d8+1d6+12+no opportunity attacks every turn after that or 3d8+2d6+12(if you wanted Hex from some method) every turn. Sure the concentration Mark damage is still 3d8+1d6+12 but at least you dont get an extra die+extra effects. Considering a level 5 barbarian is doing 4d6+12+Rage on his first turn, this seems fair since your Ranger now has Expertise, Exploration and Spellcasting on top of that.

    • @NoodleCreature
      @NoodleCreature 12 дней назад +1

      @@KoranthusI appreciate you bringing some math into it and I'm very much looking forward to Aug 1 when folks with early access copies can show us the math in more detail. But I'm not following along with your example. Steel Wind Strike, as I understand it, does not interact with Hunter's Mark and is not concentration so it wouldn't overlap anyway. Zephyr strike is concentration but is not "always on," it's "once before the spell ends" and also takes a bonus action so you couldn't use both on round 1 anyway. And while Hunter's Mark can be "always on" it has an action economy cost to do so whereas something like the Berserker Barbarian does truly get an always on extra die and that isn't single target restricted. I don't get why the higher level features couldn't remove the concentration requirement on the limited free castings when there are fewer and fewer reasons to justify concentrating on a once per turn average of 3.5 damage; especially when they also revealed that war clerics don't have to concentrate on spiritual weapon when cast through channel divinity. Sure it would be busted in early levels but I don't see why a high level ranger would ever prioritize Hunters Mark as is. It feels underwhelming when they've made so many core features rely on it.

      It less that it’s god awful. Cause the dragon dnd are meant to be have this empowering presence, plus the playtest version is much better than before, since they have to make the saving throw while in the aura, it doesn’t use concentration, and the creature isn’t gonna be immune for 24 hours on a save. You still need True Poly and Shapechange on the Sorcerer spell list for the narrative of Dragon Sorc to work. Calling it now, they aren't doing that and I'll be really annoyed! :\
    Also, couple notes: You need to make Wild Magic Surge non-lethal. Being able to tpk on the first roll of a level 1 campaign that was supposed to be long-form is debilitating. As for Dragon: I don't want to "summon" a dragon. I'll take it if it's going, but you had one job. Resistance at level 6, wings at level 14 (NON LIMITED IT WAS FINE AS IS), and immunity at level 18 (Storm Sorc gets this, why not DRAGON) with True Poly and Shapechange either on the base spell list or as part of the capstone. Your dragon mage can't BE a dragon when a Wizard can, that's a MASSIVE oversight in the narrative.

    It feels like the numbers on Innate Sorcery are a bit off. I believe based on distributions, the average gain from Advantage is about +4, but then you're only increasing your spell save DC by 1? I guess since some spells with saving throws can target a large number of enemies, they didn't want to make it bigger than that, but it does make it pretty underwhelming with single target spells, compared to the Advantage on spell attack rolls.

    • @stargrace420
      @stargrace420 14 дней назад +1

      Spells with attacks pretty much exclusively deal damage, and there's not that many of them. Spells with saves include save-or-sucks like hypnotic pattern and hold person, and AoE damage spells where increases to the DC compound damage based on the number of targets. I do feel that +1 is a little paltry (even a +2 would feel way more significant) but combined with mind sliver and heightened metamagic, the ability to make sure enemies almost certainly fail a save is more accessible in the new rulebooks.

    See now this is why WotC needs to stop adding features before it's put in UA, they practically need players to judge every decision they made.
    "At 9th level you get the Summon Dragon spell. After another 9 levels of it being on your spell list where you've most likely acquired the material component, which is not a consumed component unless we changed that, you can only at 18th level cast it without needing that component."
    So what? We should already have it by now, and if the DM never allowed them to obtain one they're probably the type of DM that doesn't let the campaign get to 18th level anyway, nevermind how rare it is to get there anyway.
    Are we supposed to sell it? We're an 18th level adventurer, we probably have more gold than all the known kingdoms combined by now, what difference is getting that 500 back gonna make?
    Maybe WotC has a specific vision on how these material components work that most of us aren't fully privy to, like maybe you need to spend an action pulling out the material component before you can cast the spell? I'm guessing not.
    Every time something is suddenly added without being part of a playtest, it's usually half baked or not thought through at all. WotC, stop adding stuff without putting it through the UA first. Seriously.

      I think your focusing a little to much on what is not the main purpose of that feature lol. It just makes it so you can cast the spell for free without a spell slot and concentration, the no material component is just you can do that.

      @@hearforthemusic9814 yeah honestly fair enough, it's not like the entire feature is useless, I just don't understand the point of even using space of the book to add that in.
      At best you'll be temporarily without the component once in the entire campaign once you have it. Being without your stuff isn't something typical DMs throw together very often.
      I think for a moment there I was so hung up on the dumbness of that, that I half forgot that wasn't all he said it did.

    While the art for the Draconic Sorcerer is absolutely beautiful, its a shame that they don't show him with scales. I *really* hope they didn' remove that bit of flavor from their 1st--I mean 3rd (ugh) level feature.

    I am happy for draconic sorcerer, but was hoping for some improvement for divine and shadow sorcerer. Also, new subclass would be nice for sorcerer. Maybe vampire bloodline sorcerer? I was disappointed with shadow sorcerer though, would like it to be more of shadow necromancy type.

      I think it’s a moon elf, which is an ethnicity of high elf in the Forgotten Realms. Their skin colour varies but does include pale purple and blues. Also, elves can have fantastical colours in 5e. While few official campaign settings use these options, the base elf description includes blue, purple and copperish skin colours for high elves and green for wood elves. Hair can also be blue, silver or for wood elves, green. And eyes could appear like pupiless pools of gold and silver.

      I thought it was a drow? Cause I swear the last PHB or Xanathar’s had a purplish drow in the book cause I used the art as inspiration for my first Shadow Sorcerer

      @@sakuratejina The last PHB has a picture of a moon elf on the page next to the page with the drow subrace, if that’s what you were thinking of. But to my knowledge , drow have always had white hair and skin in shades of grey, black or lilac-purple. But in Dragonlance, I think dark elves have the human range of skin tones. But I don’t know much about Dragonlance, admittedly.

    It seems bizarre to me that they would choose to include the Tasha's subclasses since they already had subclass spells where as the Xanathar's ones don't. Also, they've mentioned in other videos wanting to improve abilities that activate when you drop to 0 and Shadow Sorcerer has one of those. Feels like 2 massively missed opportunities to fine tune some subclasses to be in-line with the current design philosophy for the sorcerer.

    So no additional known spells for wild magic sorcerers like the others get because of their random table seems an odd choice given that table is the core of their 'abilities', like dragon, mental and order aspects of the others.

    I'm saddened that they've moved the "Pick Your Bloodline" part to level 3. If your magic is based off the arcane potential of your very being, it feels like it robs some potential of the narrative that you pick your ancestry once you've warmed up to it.
