wow thank you for this video! when i bought my hoya it didn’t specify which type it was, so after some quick research i assumed it was a krimson princess. i didnt even know the australis lisa existed! now i can definitely tell that my baby is an australis lisa ☺️
I love all of ur plant origin presentations. I have a queen. She's my first and only Hoya. I caught the Hoya bug when I caught a co-worker's blooming last summer...such an unexpected and exciting process to watch unfold.
Thank you so much for this video! I recently purchased my first hoya, the magnificent krimson queen! The seller was convincing me that hoya carnosa tricolor and krimson queen are two different plants. And i thought i was going crazy 🤣🤣🤣
I picked up the very first Hoya I noticed a couple of years ago when I started getting into house plants and it happened to be a Princess. lol I got excited and my brain was like: That's a Hoya. You're mine now. I took her not knowing what she was until I got home and looked it up. Now after following people on RUclips and Instagram, I absolutely do not regret my purchase. She's so pretty. BUT, I have noticed that I really like the way the Queen looks.
Thank you for explaining the differences. I bought a Hoya called Tricolour and after watching this I see it’s a Hoya Rubra (Princess), aaannnnd.....I have had a Hoya for over 40 years (cutting from my parents), and found out, from your video it’s a Hoya Carnosa. NEVER knew what it was. So thank you kindly for this video. 👏🏻
Last year I bought a strawberries and cream hoya and was wondering what it was, but when I looked up didn't look anything like what I had(all princess like you said). Your video showed me that I actually have a "queen" and considering it's the plant that sparked my love of Hoyas, I wanted to thank you and let you know you have a new sub, I really enjoyed this video!
Very helpful video as I’m just beginning my adventure into Hoyas. Currently I have a Tricolor, a Krinkle Eight, an Australis Lisa Variegated and a Macrophylla Variegata.
I've been waiting soooooo long for a good explanation of these Hoyas so Thank You!!! Now I know my mystery hoya is definitely a Princess Rubra! Also have two Queens and a dark green Australis which is my favorite because she's growing so fast. Still waiting for any of them to give me a peduncle (pretty please). 💚🌿
Hoya Astralis Lisa, THANK YOU! I just bought one today thinking it was another princess like the one I have but the leaves were a little softer. AND it had a tag on it saying it was a Hoya carnosa compacta! (The curly, rope Hoya!) thank you so much for the side by side comparison, great content! New sub! ❤️❤️❤️
Love the metaphor to remember the difference between the queen and princess! I already have a krimson queen and can't wait for a krimson princess one day and a pubicalyx splash 😁
Which one is your favorite? I adore Hoya australis 'Lisa'. 💚BTW yes you heard me right: Hoya 'Krimson Queen' = Hoya 'Tricolor' but both are sold under the name Hoya 'Tricolor' by vendors since both exhibit three colors: green, white, and pink and it's confusing.
I love the Princess, the mix of white, light green, dark green and pink just does it for me. My Krimson Princess was actually sold to me as a tricolor xD
I love my H. Australis dark green. Love the shape of her leaves and the shine. Next fave is my Cornosa Rubra. The pinks and creams are such a pretty contrast. 💚
Thank you for clearing this up!! I just brought home my second Hoya - thanks to you I now know it’s a Princess! I already had a Queen, but didn’t realize it was also called a tricolor 🤔 I’m less confused and very excited!
Thank you thank you thank you so very much for this because I have been confused about Hoyas for sale and why they resemble the Crimson queen or the Crimson princess or whatever the hell they're called
Hoya Carnosa Rubra may often throw-off purely green-and-white leaves and red-tinted leaves on different branches. I have such plant which had red stem, leaves and dark flowers. The other branches are variegated with yellow and have off-white flowers.
I have a huge princess last year I took cuttings from her and I now have five baby plants. I also bought a queen online and when she came there were three cuttings in the pot that were rooted plants but only one of them was a queen the other two were the princess so somebody didn't know one from the other
Betsy, you just made me want to go out and get me some crown n gown hoyas. Where the hell am I gonna get that in my country at this hour?!!! 😂😂😂 Love you, girl!
BETSY!! I'm so happy to see an upload from you!! Also, this video actually helped me so much, I constantly forgot what my carnosa crimson princess was called !! 😅😅

Why would anyone downvote this? It's fantastic, fun and informative (love the effects). So for someone thinking of getting their first hoya, which should I look for in Australia? I do like the Australis Lisa but that Krimson Princess...
I just had to go and check, as I bought what is described as a tricolor from a large online plant seller, but according to your list is a rubra! No wonder we get confused if the sellers can't get it right!

Thank you, Betsy for this informative video! In the USA a popular online seller is offering a Hoya called Hoya Exotica. Is the Hoya “exotica” the same as Hoya rubra? To me they look the same, but I’m a new Hoya Head. I have H. rubra, H. Tricolor, and H. Australa but still looking for H. Australa Lisa. Don’t know the difference between H. Wayetii, shepherdii and Kentiana....Could you tell us? Showing sIde by side plants in your videos very helpful.....
WHY DID YOU JUST MAKE THIS VIDEO 😭😭😭 I’ve been struggling with them when I just started the plant hobby but I did my research that it know comes so easily about them. At least new plant lovers finally have a video to help them out with their journey especially these hoyas. ❤️
I was just talking to Christian @CrazyPlantGuy about this because I just recently got an Exotica and a Rubra and they are so similar I wanted to know the difference. I honestly had no idea that the Rubra was actually the Krimson Princess were the same. So the Exotica is just another Cultivar of the Carnosa right? Goya's are my favorite and I'm trying to learn all I can. Thanks for this video!
Hello Betsy, I have stupidly just bought two hoya’s one “Hoya Carnosa Albomargina and Hoya carnosa krimson queen 😆 from a uk garden centre and it’s the same plant ?🤣
So what is a hoya exotica? I got one from Planterina & I’m not sure what it actually is. It looks pretty much like a crimson princess. But there’s so much conflicting information online that I’m really not sure what plant I’ve got 🤷🏻♂️
I keep hearing your name on other plant channels. All good. 😀 I finally found you. 😀 This subject is still a little confusing for me, because I have a Hoya, crimson queen, but the leaves are short an heart shaped like a Chelsea. I love it, it’s one of my favorites. 😀 Have any idea what it is?
Thank you, I'm in quarantine now and I'm very bored so I'm labelling all my plants and I found out that the hoyas I bought had the wrong name from the shop. Tricolor instead of Rubra/Crimson princess/whatever. Damn! 🤣 Now I just have to look for a cutting of a real hoya Crimson Queen..any suggestion? Many thanks from Italy!

Hi Betsy! Thanks for the great video, as always! I have a weird thing going on with my krimson queen and if you have time i'd really appreciate some advice. She's been dropping only the full-white leaves recently? Like in the past month I've lost two, so a lil dramatic hahaha but I've never lost leaves on this plant before now! No yellowing on the other leaves, and no warning really except that the white leaf tips have started browning one by one and slowly shriveling up and falling off? i'm lost! she's in a pretty small pot, so maybe she wants to be repotted, but i thought hoyas generally like being root-bound. Also I always wait until the leaves are wrinkly before watering well. IDK, anyway, if anyone has advice or this has happened to you, i'm all ears! Thanks!
White leaves do absolutely nothing for the plant and suck energy away from it as they cannot aid in the process of photosynthesis, but still require energy from the plant. So your plant may be shedding them to save itself. That's all I've got.
@@betsybegonia OOH that's actually helpful though I think. That probably means it didn't have enough light, but I just recently moved it to a window with more light so hopefully that helps. And it also tells me I shouldnt repot it rn cause the plant is already stressed. Thanks girl :)
Hello Betsy! I have a Bamboo Fern (coniogramme emeiensis) and I’ve been trying to find some care tips for it for a while but I have’nt been succsessful. (I think you have one) Could you maybe give me some advice on how to make it happy and how to make it grow in my home?☺️ Love your channel🥰🌿
I mostly neglect it and water it when I remember. They like the soil moist like most ferns but I am bad about it, I let it dry out a little. When the fronds turn brown and die you can chop them all off and new fronds will come through. Mine doesn't require a ton of humidity. In my opinion it's one of my easiest plants.
Pretty sure I have the Hoya carnosa rubra, but it also has the regular hoya carnosa leaves. Is it normal to have the same plant putting out two different leaf types at the same time? I just saw a peduncle for the first time after a year of owning it. I heard you can’t really know what it is until it blooms. Is that true?
Right? People love to throw names on these things. We could really just call them Hoya carnosa albomarginata and Hoya carnosa variegata and call it a day.

So I only have one Hoya because I have to say that the woody appearance never really did it for me. But I found a Hoya Bilobata at a big box store for like 6 bucks so I figured, sure why not? Everyone loves Hoyas for some reason. I get it now. And I want more. This little Bilobata just wants to live. I plopped him down in a random spot and he is thriving on neglect. A quick question... I had a cutting sold to me as variegated Hoya australis, would that make it a Lisa? No white, just beautiful green shades. It's definitely an australis, I have refrained from calling it Lisa because I just wasn't sure. Also loved the video!
