    We ran a similar transmission and rear gear ratio and found ourselves playing with tire diameter to dial it in. Transmissions are simple once you get out of your own head. Great video.

    Why this channel doesn't have 200k subs is beyond me. Excellent content

      Thanks man! I'm not sure my channel will necessarily get real big like that. I think it is too in depth for a lot of people. But I've also only been doing it just under a year and I haven't posted near as often as I need to be in order to really make it grow. I think it should pick up a good bit once my car is out doing things though.

    the Monroe book is dated but pretty good. Powerglides are a joy to work on. I broke out on my trucks 4l60e and then built my glide for my trans am. Best transmissions i have ever owned.

    I think you'll be happy you're learning the trans. You'll be more confident down the road if it has issues.

    • @SquirrelTuned
      @SquirrelTuned  3 года назад

      Yes sir I agree, that is the reason Pete suggested I do it myself, just in case I have a small issue and it is a fairly simple fix

    Seen in someone elses youtube you can put this thing in a trash can and the bellhousing will keep it elevated and you can work on it pretty comfy

    I made a fixture out of some angle iron and I bolted it to my engine stand to hold the trans it held it the trans north to south. It wasn’t as cool as the ones that kind of pinch the case but it worked for me. Used a concrete mixing pan to catch fluid. They’re cheap af and are big but shallow. Like 5 bucks at Lowe’s depot. Sat it on top of the legs on the engine stand. Anyways. Maybe some ideas. Good luck.

      That sounds way too smart and easy for me haha. I don't plan to do this often so I didn't really do anything special. Only doing it to learn how it all works basically in case I'm in a situation that requires a quick fix or something. I appreciate the ideas though!

    I had an issue snapping the input shaft so I put the Sonnax "Smart-tech" servo in. It's supposed to remedy the band application issues. Seems to be working great although I'm not running what you do but it may be something to look in to while the trans is apart..

    • @SquirrelTuned
      @SquirrelTuned  3 года назад

      Funny you say that, that's exactly what we're putting in it. Pete from Hughes recommended it before I even pulled it apart. I forgot to mention it in the video.

      Cool. Yea I put that in and the tsi NASA ringed input shaft, should be good now lol

    This is kinda unrelated but have you had any success tuning and maxing out any gen 3 stuff? I have a 2002 Ext. Cab 4X4 Silverado that I wanna attempt to push into the 9s using the original gen III 5.3 and I suspect that it's gonna take as much boost as the stock ECU can read in order to do it. So I was curious if you've had any success keeping anything with gen 3 rods alive for a reasonable amount of time.

    • @SquirrelTuned
      @SquirrelTuned  3 года назад +1

      95% of people just go gen 4 so I haven't got to push gen 3 stuff real hard but I did have one making over 1000hp near 30psi. Unfortunately it lost oil pressure from oil running from the pickup on hard 60fts and killed the bearings so didn't get to really push it more or see how long it lasted. Hard to move that much weight but I'd say it's possible.

      @@SquirrelTuned That actually sounds more promising than immediately spitting a rod out of the block on the first hit.

    • @SquirrelTuned
      @SquirrelTuned  3 года назад +1

      @@AgiDaKinG that's always a possibility too lol. With the right setup and tuning the gen 3s can take a lot though.

    • @AgiDaKinG
      @AgiDaKinG 3 года назад +2

      @@SquirrelTuned if I could get my frail little 5.3 to hold 30psi that would be a dream come true, I’m definitely gonna try it lol. And I think my setup is pretty decent and at least heading in the right direction, it’s got a VSR billet t6 s480, BTR stage 2 turbo cam, .660” springs and push rods, twin walbro 450s and deka 80s, stock 80e and a triple disc torque converter from Circle D. I plan on upgrading the intake to a hi-ram simply because I always wanted a hi-ram lol and at the same time I’m gonna upgrade to Bosch 210s and add a third Walbro 450 and then I guess it would be time to turn it up and see what happens lol

    • @SquirrelTuned
      @SquirrelTuned  3 года назад +1

      @@AgiDaKinG sounds like a pretty good plan to me! You want the converter to be loose. I wouldn't want to see under 6k with 20+psi in it.

    u should build a stand for transmission work like A21 Bravo works with a engine stand

    • @SquirrelTuned
      @SquirrelTuned  3 года назад +1

    • @SquirrelTuned
      @SquirrelTuned  3 года назад +1

      @@rafatrill Thanks for joining man. Currently it has a gen 4 4.8, ported 862 heads, custom FPP cam, Forced Inductions GTR88 turbo, BTR ultimate rpm spring kit, btr shaft rocker kit, Johnson link bar lifters, Hughes Performance 9.5 bolt together converter, 1.69 glide now with Hughes goodies going in it, originally PTC built, mechanical fuel pump on Methanol with 16 210s. Think that covers most of it. The SBE 4.8 record is mine which is 4.95 at 140 and 7.80 at 168 in the 1/4. The overall SBE record is 4.50 at I think 155mph, and 7.12 at near 190 if I remember right. With this build I am just trying to beat my previous 4.8 record by quite a bit. The overall record was a LC9 5.3 in a much lighter car.
