    I live in Canada, and have seen this very plane land on my lake (we all think the lake we live on is MY lake! lol) and take on water and then take off again right in front of me. This simulation is simply spot on! I actually have photos of this plane and a close up of the pilots looking at me as they turned and flew over my house. This simulation is stunning!

    I couldn't agree more. One of the most incredible looking default aircraft I've ever seen, in over four decades of flight sim! I can't wait to have some fun in this thing in MSFS 2024 in VR! As a private pilot, I'd love to learn seaplanes one day. It must be a blast to takeoff and land from a lake!

    Before the engines were changed to turbines and the planes renamed CL415, the original CL215 had radial engines. Most were and still are stationed at my home airport in Québec City, CYQB. The French lettering in the aircraft is normal since they were designed and built in French Québec. CYQB is where I did all my flight training and was sort of my second home, so I often went close to their parking area and watched as they were fired up, belching black smoke from the oil accumulated in the lower cylinders. It would be nice if a radial engine version of this iconic water bomber was made available.

    Someone at the Asobo team was given the task of 3D-modelling this airplane and obviously decided to give their absolutely best shot possible at it. And they succeeded wonderfully, too.
    If the aircraft files aren't encrypted this would be a perfect starting point for a full study-level model.

      That's what I got as well. I just read an accident report of one that crashed in a training exercise, in France. It had the "Pelican" designation as well (#41). The instructor and one of two trainees died. The other one survived with serious injuries.
      Yeah the CL-215 is the "Scooper" and the 415 (derived from the 215) is the "Super Scooper".

    This aircraft is really interessant. Several to see in action here in south Europe. Perfectly reproduced. Flight model no idea, surely impossible to have a realistic one (nobody would be able to fly it) but flying as firefighter is the most dangerous job in aviation world. Please...some if not most of the models in DCS don't look all that great due to the engine limitations and the fact they keep the polycount down to reduce lag because of it being a combat simulator. In fact, the M2000 and the F-15E both were made by Metal2Mesh for FSX which is the why they look as good as they do.

    This aircraft is incredibly easy to start. Some of the issues I have with it are, the sunshades on the rails in the cockpit don't move, and currently there is no way to map the water drop button on the yoke to your hardware making it difficult to fly and drop at the same time but if you've figured out what it is, I'd love to know. Jorge said in the live stream that they were aware of some of the issues with the CL-415 so I hope they issue a fix for them.

    • @ImpendingJoker
      @ImpendingJoker 3 месяца назад

      @@jonbeckett Aye, it is not uncommon for PT-6A powered aircraft to move to the feathered position upon shutdown due to the lack of oil pressure in the propeller hub. Some have locks that prevent this like the Twin Otter but I have never really figured out why some stay flat while most feather. The C-130 is another example of staying flat on shutdown but I do not know the reason for it, though it uses a turboprop version of the T700-GE-702 that the Apache and the Blackhawk use.

    The interior of this reminds me of a spaceship from Star Citizen. Odd the strobe worked for me, I do have a hardware bind though when I pressed it first, and it worked on subsequent manual clicks.... I also noticed the fuel was really really unbalanced on the first load too. Also noticed that the ground power is stuck on too... I'm curious how much of this won't happen in 2024, because you have the EFB to presumably control those things. I also had a lot of difficulty trimming the aircraft, always seemed to be a bit too much either way and using heading/course on the Bravo moved it in increments of 10 (which I guess something similar is happening to trim).
    Otherwise, a fun modern yet simple aircraft that constantly reminds me of the one from the old Tailspin cartoon. My main gripe, other than the few minor bugs is the lack of GPS/AP. It'd be nice to have but, oh well. Although there is a GPS 1 and 2 button above the altimeter, so maybe there is a GPS in the 2024 version and the system it uses isn't available in 2020. Anyway, its a fun plane to fly, best flying boat we have I'd say and if this is the quality of the default aircraft... god damn.

      I noticed the fuel after I landed - which explained why the plane lurched left on take-off, and why it was such a handful lol - at least it reflects that the weight had a marked effect on it's performance :) (note to self - don't record videos after 1am lol)

      @Virtusim 3 месяца назад +1

      @@567davefair That's not what the crossfeed valve is for. You only select crossfeed when either the left or righthand engine fails. Crossfeed opens a valve and is not a pump. Otherwise there should be a transferpump to transfer fuel from the left or righthand tank. Crossfeed is only to be used in an emergency. For example one engine inoperative. So you can feed the good engine out of both fueltanks.
      Anyhow, the in game checklist is not correct. The fuelpumps should not be turned off after startup, but after takeoff with the crossfeed valve still closed.
