Yes there was a nav station, I too have had enough(!) hours as a passenger on the the a/c..the poor heating, the noise plus the recovery time needed after 8 plus hours in one 😊
Awesome; now I can relive losing my hearing from Bagram AF to Al Udeid virtually! I can still hear the loud hum of those engines and the ringing in my ears. Great video Mr. Beckett! I just came across your content and you found yourself a new subscriber.
XP 11/12 sim pilot here. This is the best tutorial out there for the c130 that I have come across. The MSFS version blows XP version from x hangers out of the water. Only thing really missing from this great vid is more detailed explanation on systems. Although is not study level would be informative what all the switches do, their purpose, and why it must be done on a certain sequence. Thanks for posting!
You did an excellent job explaining the startup procedures I have this video playing while I was sitting inside my plane it was nice to feel like I had an instructor
Thanks for doing this and the autopilot. I've been looking for info myself. @23:58 for anyone looking at this for more info the wipers are on co-pilot side.
1:14:00 Well, you had entered a 6000 feet / minute descent right before switching to Little Navmap. So, yeah, probably just a scratch. 😬 To receive a TACAN / VOR signal you need to have line of sight to the station. You have been way too low for that so far out between all those mountains probably. Also, a TACAN / VOR doesn‘t neccesarily provide distance information. It has to be a VOR/DME. Edwards VORTAC is a terminal station and therefore should work only from appr. 1000 to 12000 feet and for distance up to 25 NM. (Might be different in the simulator, though.)
Well let's see here. One livery. Ported sound set from the Asobo King Air. No smoke effects. No paint kit. Future liveries/texture packs exclusive from CS will be at additional cost.
Only one livery. Hopefully we'll get some old British markings for this. I love the Hercules - I built an Airfix model of it when I was a kid, back in the 1970s.
Watching this as someone with over 6000 hours on the Herk as a flight engineer. On the legacy Herks(prior to J model) the FE worked all the overhead switches. This current model(as designed for MSFS) is mixing some components between the earlier E model and later H model. E models had a GTC/ATM while the H model used an APU. I cringe at some of the things shown but hey I understand it's a good attempt. Next thing they need to work on is 8-bladed(NP2000) props vs 4-bladed. The old 4 bladed ones are going away.
i was amazed to see this recently with their teases on facebook. needless to say i was a total fan boy of the c130 in fsx. it would be nice to hear from them about what they plan..for things like other variants , liverys etc.. nice vid
12:52 When you have external power, you would not turn on the ATM generator switch. With external, ALL the AC buses are powered. When you turned on the ATM generator, it kicked off the external power and the only bus you had powered was the Essential AC. 13:05 For the inverters, you would rotate the copilot's AC Instruments inverter switch to power it by essential AC but leave the AC inst and engine fuel control inverter switch in the essential DC position.
Erm... I think you have that backwards. The propellers run at a constant speed - like most turboprops. The power levers adjust the amount of fuel pumped into the gas turbine, and then the blade pitch is governed automatically based on the power available (hence the torque gauges - reflecting how much stress is being put through the propellers).
Jonathan, what add on did you use for China Lake (mine sure does not look like that). Also are you using Eye Tracking or VR? I use an Oculus 3 and my graphics are not as good as yours. Graphics Card is a 4090. Thank you Steve
Still missing a lot of details especially when we talk about C130H or C130E, we talk about its sound, also the size of cockpit windows from exterior seems not accurate as much as it looks in reality, so I hope Captain sim looks to fix these details as we wish soon
Captain Sim has always had great modeling and textures. They have never done study level aircraft and make them just complex enough as to give the feeling of putting in the effort of flying a complex aircraft without all the aggravation. That said, their reputation in MSFS is well deserved after they released their FSX C-130 into the sim with no cockpit for a pretty high price, then they went about insulting the repainters saying they couldn't do justice to Captain Sim aircraft, and so didn't release a paint kit for any of their newer aircraft. This soured the community on them even further. So, while this may look nice and I did have all the CS C-130 addons in FSX, until they make further in roads to righting the ship, I am going to pass on this for now.
@@jamesdouglas3631 Ah, but that is just it. This is up to CS's usual standard, so I take it at face value. The inability to see the cargo hold from inside the aircraft is merely an inconvenience as I rarely even look at the cabins in my GA aircraft or airliners so that part is not a huge deal. No, the sticking point with me is their disdain towards the repainting community who over the years have made CS aircraft shine inside and out, and now they are just dismissing them, add to that the fact this only comes with one repaint, and CS will most likely sell you more, you can then see my reluctance to support them at this time.

It’s a shame CS did not implement a CDS or Personnel airdrop capability like AzurePoly did for the C-160. Now I’m going to have to go find my Nav bag and plan some multiplayer missions. How can I DM you?
I think Captain Sims business model is to target the casual gamer flight simmers who fly predominately in external view and don;t care about systems, flight dynamics, cockpits, etc. I believe back in the day they wanted to be a major player in aircraft simulation, but I think the standards and skills required to produce a high quality systems rich aircraft these days far exceeds their capabilities. I do believe relatively speaking their products in this case should be much cheaper.
Great Video Jonathan, spent a couple of years at RAF Lyneham, so a must buy for me. Would you say this is at the same level of study as the C160 from AzurPoly?
I have two issues: 1 - When I place the Condition Lever forward, it returns back to its original position after a second or two, and 2 - I do manage to get all engines started, however, when I set the Engine Bleed air back to ON, all engines stop. ??? What is causing this?
@@xenophon10k, well, yes, these payware aircraft aren’t bad. But the shear detail of this NEW c130h is just beyond awesome. But hey, I’m not such a big fan of MSFS anyways, i think its inferior to any other flight sim in the flightmodel department. Hopefully MS2024 will do better.

Is there a GPS mode we can switch for the aircraft to follow the default flight plan made in the map screen prior to beginning a flight? or is it like the B-1 Lancer, where the switch is there but it just can't be selected ... 😟
and if there is no functioning GPS system for the aircraft to follow ... what do people do? or is this plane only manual flying only? ... unfortunately I'm still an ultra noob and know little about VOR's approaches etc ... but I'm guessing the aircraft can pick up those types of guidance, just no GPS guidance, which I would normally use throughout a pre-planned flight

Hi Samuel, I was in the RAF in the 80s and travelled a fair bit in the back of a Herc on various trips abroad and this does sound very authentic from what I remember. Very noisy to travel in, defo need ear defenders. I'd say the engine sounds are pretty authentic.
@@coffeeguy6673I would expect much more noise, to be honest. Also, it‘s just a stock sound set, as it is noted on the Captain Sim website. That‘s a bit sad for the price.
Retired C-130 USAF Navigator here Jon. IIRC Door and Ramp speed is 180 KIAS. Appreciate you doing the video. Low Level cruise speed is ~210-240 KIAS at 300 AGL.
So this tells me Captain sim could do this detailed modelling all along, they just chose the lazy, money making option instead. BTW this is coming from someone with no experience of them before msfs 2020.

bonjour et merci pour la vidéo. Je reste toujours sur mes gardes quand il s'agit de captain sim et ce nouvel avion ne me fera pas changer d'avis. Cette entreprise a trop d'avis négatifs.
Captain SIm clearly does some beautiful models, but his flight models are his weakspot. How did it feel to fly?
Was very good.
Awesome aircraft, but the sound is not greater.
Where can one get more liveries?
I don't think you can yet.
They will have a pack soon
Hej just testen and the Simulation is Not as Deep as the FS2400 version
Can you open cargo while flying
I may not have been going slow enough to do it.
What’s your opinion of the engine sound and is it authentic to the real c130
No idea. I haven't seen a C-130 for years. I grew up next to RAF Brize Norton, so should probably remember - that's 30 years ago now though :)
@@jonbeckett I was stationed there Jonathan in the mid 80s, Hercs did land there but were mainly based at RAF Lyneham. Plenty of VC10s and Tristars at Brize. Where did you live, Carterton or one of the outerlying villages ?
Now she needs someone to make her study lvl with mod
More outside views would be appreciated
Does it have GPS?
Nope - and I very much doubt the original had GPS either :)
Time to sharpen them real pilot skills. Nothing like sectional charts, VORs, an E6B, and a timer my friend.
So this tells me Captain sim could do this detailed modelling all along, they just chose the lazy, money making option instead. BTW this is coming from someone with no experience of them before msfs 2020.
How did you get the GPU connected, please?
It's just a switch overhead - you don't have to connect anything outside - it's not modelled *that* accurately.
@@jonbeckett thank you!
This aircraft needs to be updated to the current version with a glass cockpit.
Will this be coming to Xbox eventually
Probably ?
Need smoke engine
Looks like captain sim is finally getting their shit together. Their historical stuff has been garbage
CS = hard pass
Yeah not that impressed actually
Of course not for XBOX !!!!
It will come, dont worry
Everything else from Captain Sim has come to the xbox, don’t worry
The worst aircraft sound I have heard in MSFS so far. With 40 dollars, this plane is not even close to the pricing
Very good review. I was surprised at the quality and the authentic cockpit Capt. Sim provided. The multiplayer trolls at the end ruined the whole video. So I have to give it a thumbs down. Too bad some idiots have nothing better to do than ruin someone's hard work. I bet they live in their mother's basement with no expectation of living a productive life.
Way to go CS, one step forward and four back. Save your money guys. It ain't anywhere near worth it.
If you fly multiplayer, you’re going to get trolled by 12 year old idiots. Stay off line.
It's been one of learning moments as I've become more well known - it's a shame that I'll end up having to record everything offline :/
@@jonbeckett absolutely. Your videos are amazing and they get ruined by those kiddos. Glad you logged off that server
well it's not like other players can crash into you or anything, seems pretty harmless to me
Nice modeling terrible systems worse than FSX. Don’t wast your money on this mess
Which herculeees is better the H or E
