As always, top quality entertainment and education, and very much appreciated. I have a WWII/DC3 story.... My father, who was a radio operator/navigator/gunner with RAF Coastal Command, was court martialled for this. Him and his crew were being transported in a DC3 Dakota to their operational base, and along the way, as they were over the North Yorkshire Moors, they had a sweepstake - whoever was the first to bail out with a parachute would win the pot. As soon as all the money was in, he grabbed a chute, strapped it on, opened the side door and jumped out into the night! He won the pot but was court martialled for "Endangering the life of His Majesties Forces" - namely himself. A couple of years later he was court martialled for exactly the same offence, but that's another story!
The texture at 2:19 is canvas that was put over the cargo door hinges to protect the paratroopers static lines from getting caught or cut when they jump out.
You are correct those are flame suppressors. Also, the Douglas C-47 was called the Skytrain in the USA, and Dakota by the UK. Like the Texan and the Harvard.
@@PeterNGloor yes I am aware. My point was that the C-47 was the military version of the DC-3 (Douglas “Commercial”). Some people call the DC-3 “Dakota”
The engines don't sound like those in any DC3 I have heard, inside or out. The Aeroplane Heaven DC3 package has better sounds, so if Aeroplane Heaven made these C47s why hasn't the sound been brought across?
Aeroplane Heaven Spitfire MK1 had awful sound as well. I thought there was something wrong with the SIM when I spoke to them but it turned out they think everything was fine.
Also this is not the normal DC3 it'd a military version so there is going to be differences especially with engines as most aircraft that get a military variant have better engines.

Things I learned in the past week: Those black and white stripes were painted on Allied aircraft the day before D-Day for identification. The video I watched said that many aircraft launched with wet paint.
I think it would be interesting to compare this bird against the standard DC3 with the freeware upgrade from the marketplace to see which one is better...
Couple of issues during multiplay crew ladder deployed during flight and wildly choping sound with many of these aircraft in an instance, good review though.
It’s not bad for the price but I think the sounds are lacking and I don’t believe textures are great either, I get the first version was free and now this one is going for a good cause. However the plane has to many immersion breaks to really give me the sense I’m flying in DC3
Have not tried this yet, but I like the mod to the other and starts up just like the manual states. Not sure why nobody seems to be able to model one of these with more accuracy. It's really sad. Startup has a lot of switches to pull and blades to count, but its different and fun. I also like the supercharger in the other, it works well enough. Does this have a functional fuel priming lever?
Hi Jonathan. Don't know if you've flown the Waco glider yet but hoping you can help as I cant find an answer elsewhere. Is it possible to assign a button to jettison the gear? I fly in VR and it is difficult to turn around and look up to operate the gear jettison lever without losing control. Thanks in anticipation.

I can't wait to try that bad boy out. I've tried flying the civilian version, but it keeps acting weird on takeoff and suddenly crashing. I don't understand why. I think the C.D. switch is for cold & dark, but I might be misremembering that.

Please somebody help.. I've flow the DC3 & Duckworks variants quite a lot, I'm having trouble with the Gyro on this one though, I can manage altitude no probs, but the heading system doesn't seem to be working, I can turn the plane with aileron trim, but setting the heading on the compass ain't working, anyone else having this problem?
@@rdunative sorry but how does that relate on how to open the crew access hatch? Seen it opened in another RUclips video but can't seem to find the switch to operate the door.
Great video! and Strange move from MS / Asobo not to use the Stars insignia, but it is good fun but sadly needs a lot more development time to fix the bugs.
@@fencerider1492 Hot and high cannot be the problem. Do you take off with zero flaps, which is normal, and do you check your RPM and MP to be at Max power? Is the plane trimmed for take-off? All I can say is that I had trouble taking off from high-altitude fields in Colorado, but they are not so high as this would make using supercharger necessary, as this is AFAIK not the case below 10000 ft. Maybe somebody else here can think of other things to consider.
I thought something had gone wrong with my sound system when I got that bird started, actually exited the flight and loaded another plane to check what was going on with my speakers, unfortunately everything was fine.
Has Jonathan ever reviewed a plane with poor modelling and texturing? Even when it's so poor - like AH creations - and makes your eyes bleed, everything is "look at that, isn't it wonderfully modelled"......
I'm easily pleased :) And yes - I have reviewed a poor one once or twice - and it made me feel bad being negative, because a developer somewhere probably poured their heart and soul into it - only to get an army of people that have never built anything sh*t all over it. I guess being a software developer myself, I have quite a bit of empathy for aircraft developers :)
@@jonbeckett Nice Answer, Jonathan! Please just continue this way. You make reviews in a polite and very nice way and anybody watching your reviews can judge by themself if they share your opinion or not. I guess, something that is abolutely not working in the airplane you would not describe as wonderfull but let us viewers know. However, as you said, no reason to blame a developer for minor issues like this strange door hinges, i am sure, they will soon fix them with an update.
