Amazing! One thing though is that I truly wish you could've done observations of the legacies of the surviving Tully/Stark children ARYA, SANSA, and THREE EYED RAVEN.
@@petebondurant58 she was the one who negotiated that terrible marriage. She should have let the Black Fish do the talking. No Frey would dare vex him.
Reminds me of the Austrian Empire: they weren´t great warriors, but great diplomats and schemers. They got their empire through marriages and it fell apart because it got too big and chaotic.
I like to think that Sansa also is more Tully than Stark as she grew up. Becoming more like her mother physically and personally. She lacks most of the stubbornness that became an unintended Stark personality trait in most the family. A lot of determination and compassion too. So if Edmure doesn't survive this season, the Tullys might be gone in name but not in blood.
There is more of her mother in Arya too than most people give either credit for. Perhaps the most successful mix of Stark and Tully is on the one who avenges family upon another family. She knows how to swim unseen in the waters, but this fish bites.
I'd like to think they have a lot of tully qualities to, Cat had many problems and was exposed to HORRIBLE situations where she had to pick her family, but I'd like to think the girls have like "The good tully trails" mostly Sansa but I am so happy someone else noticed Arya to, Tullies are really good at adapting (like whith Aegon conquest), better than most Starks but I do love them both.
Honestly, I kind of have to disagree about Sansa being more Tully than Stark. Sure, she has her mother diplomatic and social graces but in personality, especially in the books but I assume a lot of you have only watched the shows, she is her father’s daughter.
Catlyn is the most underrated character by far. What a great character and powerful actress...her cry at the end of the red wedding is one of the most haunting performances in TV history
I feel like Edmure isn't the last Tully, Sansa is, even if she doesn't carry the name. The Battle of the Bastard really highlights her Tully ability to make alliances. This video makes me miss Catelyn. Sure she's not perfect, but she's been my favourite character in the books/series.

I feel like the house arryn video was just an extention of house tully's more negative aspects since the only arryns we see is lysa and robin, and both of them are the worst. The only good arryns are dead
Despite her treatment of Jon i strangely like Catelyn. She made many mistakes but she's loyal, fierce and protective of her kin. She's amazing but also flawed like every human.
Honor is sometimes worthless and this old times. In real life medieval nobles didn't care about the poor unlike today's UK"s monarchy does charity support and cares about the people. @EmtronVenger oh that's right, I haven't read them in ages. I think she's characterized slightly better in the show. Or perhaps it's just Michelle Fairley's performance that makes me like her way more. Considering Catelyn and Ned's characters, it makes way more sense that Ned would feel an overwhelming obligation to go, and Catelyn would be against it. Since it's Ned's dedication to honor that kills him (warning Cersei and not paying Littlefinger to secure the loyalty of the knights) and Catelyn's dedication to family that kills her (setting Jaime free made them vulnerable).
She still had hopes that her daughters are alive. If it wasn't for her sending Brianne to rescue and protect them, who knows what would have happened to Sansa.
Don't forget that tv CAN'T do everything a book can. It takes a LOT of money to make a tv show, especially one with all the special effects Game of Thrones has. There are too many things in the book that is important to the story, but some have to be sacrificed for the even bigger things. They probably could have done Lady Stoneheart, but then we may not have gotten the direwolves, or Faegon and not the White Walkers or the dragons. I love how Sansa and Arya really embody the Tully love of family. They defend their family so much. They also embody the importance of the pack surviving during winter. It’s such a good combination. One thing we admire of the Starks comes from how much they value family and a lot of that comes from Catelyn as a Tully. It’s unfortunate we don’t see their influence more in the series through their strong genes. In the books, all the Stark kids except for Arya have the Tully look. Amazing analysis like always!
Out of all the Stark children, Sansa’s the one who mirrors the Tully qualities. It makes sense because even her poster for Season 8 pays homage to her mother’s sigil.
House Tully is a tragic house to say the least. Despite their times trying to go with the flow and trying to survive, they are still caught and devoured by others. There's one left, yes, but I don't know how well his story will go since he handed Riverrun to House Lannister. (Could you do one on House Clegane?)
As a middle child I didn't think about House Tully being so, but I do see this now. Very true! Your videos are always great to watch, and the Game of Thrones videos are the most addicting.
I wish you talked more about how Sansa has true Tally in her. Due to her hair, her interest in strategically marrying fast to Joffrey, her being captured and so being out of the water in in between places, and the arranged marriages she falls into
After he refused the marriage and fell out with his brother he became the black sheep of the family, and people joked that made him the blackfish in an attempt to mock him, he then took a blackfish as his personal sigil and ambraced the title
I mean, she sort of started the war by capturing Tyrion on the word of Littlefinger and then practically lost it by giving Jaime away. Her recklessness destroyed her family, her kingdom, and almost her house. Her counsel could've prevented a few setbacks but ultimately don't outweigh the consequences of her poor decisions.
THIS GUY Yeah littlefinger told her that the assassin’s dagger was Tyrion’s which is what led to him being arrested on Cats order, causing Tywin to start raiding the riverlands. Her only initial evidence was the word of the most conniving, dishonorable person in Westeros
@@seanpotts5252 Sure thing. BUT... He was the one who lied. It was his dagger. Who is responsible? The liar or the one who was lied to? True, your reaction to a problem is just as important as the problem itself but Littlefinger is one of the greatest players in the game. Who can blame Catelyn for trusting someone who genuinely loves her?
THIS GUY I never said Catelyn was more culpable than Littlefinger, I said Catelyns decisions were horribly detrimental to everything and everyone she held dear. It’s silly to say things like “if only they listened to cat” when her judgment cost them the war. Regardless, you’ll never hear me argue that littlefinger wasn’t the one who caused basically everything but it was also up to cat to not fall into his traps and she failed miserably
4:52 I always forget that about Catelyn’s last moments. Her cry of anguish when Robb is killed is not just for him. It’s for the entire male line she believes is wiped out.
Edmure has Harrenhal torn down to repair the Riverlands and uses the stone from it to repair burned or damaged castles, or expands them and builds some sorts of chokepoints to help defend the Riverlands in case another war happens, possibly near the Trident's fords and some chokepoints along the borders so the Riverlands don't get so easily invaded next time
House Tully is so underrated I hope we get to see Edmure take back Rivverrun and help his nieces and nephews in the North and especially with every major battle taking place in the Riverlands the Knight King may take his troops there while he heads South.
@@alanmike6883 What do you mean by redemption to Robb? Edmure doesn't have to redeem himself he never betrayed Robb he married someone for his sake if we're being honest and he really didn't have to do that for him since Robb was supposed to marry Roslin Fray not him but he did what was asked of him. He wasn't apart of that betrayal and it wouldn't make sense for him to be cause Cat was his sister and the Riverlands his home.
Robb did screw up right there indeed. He even didn't explain his plans properly to Ed. And Ed did what stuck between a rock and a hard place. He saw his people attacked so he defended them. Now if Robb was just a Commander then it would be understandable Ed understandable mistake. Even with the best of intentions. But Robb was a king and Ed king at that and though Robb himself mucked up it was still a order from a king to a subject lord. Do not attack the mountain. As such both men were in the wrong. Both messed up. But from that one action changed everything. As it allowed tywin to retreat and eventually align with the reach and race to relieve kings landing
@@alanmike6883 Robb never told Edmure of his plans that was his own fault and it didn't cause Robb's downfall that was losing Jamie a huge bargaining chip, beheading Rickard Karstark and losing half his army so he couldn't fight Tywin in open battle anymore and then not marrying Roslin so the Frays betrayed them at the Red Wedding. If Robb had the Karstarks he wouldn't have needed the Frays armies and if he had Jamie Tywin wouldn't have tried that cause Jamie would've died to.
The Tully red on the sigil is mud red, so maybe it suggests their auburn hair, their closeness to the river, and the fact that they are dilligent builders, especially in regard to marriage alliances.

This is another good analysis. I especially like how it highlights Catelyn Stark wisdom and prophetic advice. She's the only Tully we've gotten the chance to get to know well during the series and she is the embodiment of the house's values. A
The phrase "blood is thicker than water" originally meant "the blood of the battlefield is thicker than the water of the womb" but with the way the phrase is commonly used nowadays, "family is more important than friendship" it works for house Tully. P.S. I loved this video and learned/remembered more about the Tullys than I imagined I ever would :p
Ive rewatched some of your GOT and Harry Potter Videos so many times 😅 I love your vids. And even though the Tully’s are not my favorite house they have my favourite words.
I Always Love your analysis for a song of ice and fire, but I have to disagree this time. Maybe in the series she tells Ned to stay home, but in the books Cat is the one pressuring him to go and be hand of the king and giving sansa in to marriage to joffrey. This and the pragmatism that all the Tully show during the time we know them, by forming alliances with marriage tells me more that they are actually the ambicius type, kind of like the tyrrels. Still, continue with the great job you always do
In book one, it was Catelyn who ultimately convinced Ned to be Robert's Hand while Ned has decided to refuse. She regretted it very much later because it's as if she sent her husband and daughters to death's door.
OK this series is so beautifully done WELL DONE! You can tell they actually care about the show and understanding it in all it's layers rather than just pumping out nonsense theories every 24 hours
Michele Fairley did an awesome portrayal of Catelyn Stark tho i dont know how she is in the books but her acting in the show is superb especially the in the red wedding. Gut and heart wrenching scene of mother trying to save her son.
Thank you so so much for doing these Game of Thrones videos. I love the Tully's and the Arryn's. Hoster Tully and Jon Arryn were two complicated men. Please do some more. Please also think about doing the Buffyverse.
Show Catelyn did something rare - beat out her book characterization. Ironically, book Cat said Ned HAD to accept the hand position. The whole monologue about Jon’s fever wasnt in the book either, which surprised me because I found it so well done and touching. All in all, Cat is another “love to hate” character who is greatly misunderstood (a lot like Sansa)
I would say Ned put his family above all else. His family, honor, and loyalty is what kept nephew safe from his best friend, brought animosity between his wife who he claimed was his son, and the odd relationship it brought upon the rest of the family. That is family, honor, and loyalty.
Catelyn is the best mother in the show. Yet she died a painful death. She never discovered that Ned never had a bastard and that one of her son survived and became king. But her remaining children are her legacy. Sansa, lady/queen of the North, Bran King of 6 Kingdoms and Arya following her path.

Out of all the Stark children, Sansa’s the one who mirrors the Tully qualities. It makes sense because even her poster for Season 8 pays homage to her mother’s sigil.
"Bodies go South; bones return North; and the North remembers" I love how this quote sums up so much of the history of this world.
Kinda expected after the House Arryn video.
Marvelous content, as usual :))
catelyn is so underrated! i have always been fond of her (and michelle fairley deserved more recognition for her performance).
House Tully is a tragic house to say the least. Despite their times trying to go with the flow and trying to survive, they are still caught and devoured by others. There's one left, yes, but I don't know how well his story will go since he handed Riverrun to House Lannister. (Could you do one on House Clegane?)
In the books, Blackfish isn't dead yet, so at least 2 Tully's are left.
Edmures wife is pregnant and she is praying for a girl to keep him alive. And I think he does get Riverrun back
@@brennabrodbeck5183 They screwed his story up in the last season.
@@lostinthestorywithjeremymi9385 fair
As a middle child I didn't think about House Tully being so, but I do see this now. Very true! Your videos are always great to watch, and the Game of Thrones videos are the most addicting.
These game of thrones breakdowns are wonderful! I hope there is still more? Thank you!
I wish you talked more about how Sansa has true Tally in her. Due to her hair, her interest in strategically marrying fast to Joffrey, her being captured and so being out of the water in in between places, and the arranged marriages she falls into
Even though he barely got any screen time, the Black Fish is one of my favorite characters.
Agree!
"Intimidating trout". Now that's not a phrase you hear every day. Or ever.......
After he refused the marriage and fell out with his brother he became the black sheep of the family, and people joked that made him the blackfish in an attempt to mock him, he then took a blackfish as his personal sigil and ambraced the title
@@tomtom21194 never forget who you are, the rest of the world won't. Wear it like armour and then it can never be used to hurt you.
Got slapped by a freaking trout in the face.
I feel like the Tullys have the best words as their family's motto: Family, Duty, Honor
Still astounding at the amount of work that goes into these. Catelyn has always been one of my favourite characters so this is especially good
If only they'd listened to Catelyn. Ned, Robb, and the Baratheons would be alive and Bran wouldn't be crippled.
@@seanpotts5252 Littlefinger?
The Tully’s started losing big time when “Family Duty and Honor” stopped mattering in Westeros.
Love the Tullys, and specially Catelyn! Such a great character, probably my favorite
Still bummed the blackfish is gone.
Hope we see edmure
Alan M Jolly if it makes u feel better in the books he actually escapes the siege of Riverrun but has gone missing
No one is dead until you see them die. And even then it is less than certain.
@@chimpinaneckbrace
True but In the show the blackfish is dead
@@sosa2mars
That's good 😊
Uncle, sit down
I cried my heart out when they killed Catelyn Stark. I understand her action to protect all her children.
A double whammy of game of thrones is a suprise but a welcome one for sure
Edmure has Harrenhal torn down to repair the Riverlands and uses the stone from it to repair burned or damaged castles, or expands them and builds some sorts of chokepoints to help defend the Riverlands in case another war happens, possibly near the Trident's fords and some chokepoints along the borders so the Riverlands don't get so easily invaded next time
I love this series. The in depth look into the Tully’s was amazing!
I believe the actor who plays Edmure has been listed for 8x01. I think Jaime might free him on his way to Winterfell.
I'm excited! I love the actor who plays Edmure. Hope to see him redeem himself and bring order back the House Tully.
Yes, can't wait to see him in The Crown!!
@@ladyswan31 I haven't watched that so I need to catch up before the next season!
That would be an interesting parallel to when catelyn freed Jaimie
Maha Souici I thought the same thing. We haven't seen the last of him....
House Tully is so underrated I hope we get to see Edmure take back Rivverrun and help his nieces and nephews in the North and especially with every major battle taking place in the Riverlands the Knight King may take his troops there while he heads South.
Edmures redemption to Robb
12:38 „and the Tully are skilled negotiators“….
- sells off her first born son for a bridge passage which leads to the red wedding.
Robb didn't keep the promise he had made to Walder Frey. He had accepted the bargain.
Really loving these GoT Symbolism videos recently!
The Tully red on the sigil is mud red, so maybe it suggests their auburn hair, their closeness to the river, and the fact that they are dilligent builders, especially in regard to marriage alliances.
This might actually be my absolute favorite Game of Thrones video on RUclips. You did an amazing job as always. The Take is awesome. :)
You posted this right when I was rewatching your other vids ^^
I hope you guys continue to make these videos. They offer so much to the viewer, thought provoking and insightful, you just get pulled in from beginning to end. Love all your Game Of Thrones videos. House Stark, House Targaryen and House Tyrell were my favs now I can add this to the lot!
This is so well done! I enjoyed every second :) Thank you
It’s an actual disgrace that this Channel is only at 600k this is honestly the best channel on RUclips every upload no matter what it is . It’s so well worked and I’m buzzing everytime there’s an upload especially these GOT videos x
This is another good analysis. I especially like how it highlights Catelyn Stark wisdom and prophetic advice. She's the only Tully we've gotten the chance to get to know well during the series and she is the embodiment of the house's values. A
Thanks for putting these out so consistently, thay are all quality videos
Finally Catelyn gets some attention. The show has all the Stark children forgetting they had TWO parents guiding them.
ikr? in the books, the stark kids think about cat and robb as much as they think of ned.
Tully was my favorite house from the books. It echos the morals I personally believe in, and Catelyn-Lady Stoneheart is one of my favorite characters.
The Tullys are the Habsburgs of Westeros. "Let others wage war; but you, happy Austria, marry!"
Maria Theresa, known as mother-in-law of Europe 😏
The logic and sense for these symbols and colors are put together well.
The coolest part is that i didn't even know the Tully were a house or kingdom.
Aye! Tis a fine analysis of the best of the houses!
Ive rewatched some of your GOT and Harry Potter Videos so many times 😅 I love your vids.
And even though the Tully’s are not my favorite house they have my favourite words.
Coming back to this after Edmure's ill-advised bid to be King of Westeros 😂
"Uncle, please sit" lol
More game of thrones content?! I'm in heaven.
The more i wish i was strong enough to survive in this horrible world.
OMG double GoT upload thank you
I am getting my LIFEEEE from this back to back GoT content 😩😩😩🔥🔥🔥
Remember Trout also swim upstream to mate, persistent to the last
I Always Love your analysis for a song of ice and fire, but I have to disagree this time.
I love your breakdowns of GoT houses. This channel is very good.
OK this series is so beautifully done WELL DONE! You can tell they actually care about the show and understanding it in all it's layers rather than just pumping out nonsense theories every 24 hours
I’ve been waiting years for this video!!
the full saying, "the blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb " kinda tears that whole point apart
Michele Fairley did an awesome portrayal of Catelyn Stark tho i dont know how she is in the books but her acting in the show is superb especially the in the red wedding. Gut and heart wrenching scene of mother trying to save her son.
The symbolism is absolutely phenomenal.
Your videos are getting me hyped now for S8
Thank you so so much for doing these Game of Thrones videos. I love the Tully's and the Arryn's. Hoster Tully and Jon Arryn were two complicated men. Please do some more. Please also think about doing the Buffyverse.
You guys make seriously great content. Very thorough and insightful I very much appreciate it.
Back to Back videos. Y’all on fire
This channel deserves much more! You guys are amazing! Keep up with the good work
Catelyn was the one who actually persuaded Ned to go to kingslanding in the books before later regretting it after brand fall :)
Yesterday, almost 100 comments requested a video on House Tully. Today it's here. Now that's called foresight.
DO HOUSE REED YO!!! Please and thank you!
I need to know about the Mudmen yo! So bad!
Thank you so much for these amazing breakdowns! Definitely thought provoking and even poetic! Awesome stuff!
I love these House Symbols videos!
In the books Cat convinces Ned to become Hand when he wants to refuse. Wonder why they reversed it in the show
Absolutely love this. It would be great to have Houses Reed, Frey and maybe Clegane to finish this series, but you do what you want to do. 🤗
8:57 "Blood is thicker than water" ...then wouldn't the thicker blood sink below the water??
Bouyancy is more complicated than thay
Catelyn was my favourite character. What I would aspire to be
I would say Ned put his family above all else.
Love the house videos! You all always do a great job with these videos! :)
You should do a video about Daenerys :)
4:51 Lady Stoneheart will see to that.
jaime: you've become a real she-wolf in your later years! there's not much fish left in you!
catelyn: and GAG HIM!!!
