There is definitely a higher power looking out for you. Help in the middle of nowhere. I’m always concerned you’ll run out of gas but being out of water is far worse. What a blessing those guys came along

Wow, definitely lucky. I remember that section. We had several moments of doubt there. Two pieces of advice when stuck. Take your bags off to lighten it as much as possible. Then lay it on its side and fill the hole in with sand. Then take sage brush or juniper bush and make a double layer several feet long over where you got stuck. Then lift the bike back up. Take a break. Then without sitting on the bike standing next to it put it in gear and slip the clutch lightly as you push forward from the side. You’ll get out just fine. Second piece of advice when towing or pulling your bike with a strap don’t put it around your forks. You run the risk of bending something that will end your trip. Instead make a yoke long enough to attach to the base of each foot peg and extends out about 3-5 feet i front of your front wheel. Will be like a big v shape. Tie off to the center of the yoke out front of your front tire. You’ll also be pulling from a much lower point lifting the bike as you pull. Ok 3rd piece water, water, water!!!! Be safe.

Thank you so much for the tips! I’ll remember that for any future situations! It probably looked like the winch was attached to my fork but it was attached to my left crash bar because I didn’t want to damage the forks, I appreciate you sharing that though because if I didn’t know that I could definitely mess stuff up!

Just read the comment by Jack Smith who was one of the guys in the truck who helped you out. His comment indicated the track you were on ran through Lockhart Basin which is expert level stuff and no joke - surprised that GPS Kevin had that listed as part of the big bike route. Definitely not a coincidence you got stuck and ran into Nate/Jack on their way back out. God Bless. Really enjoying your TAT series.

Avoid black dragon wash near green river Utah. You don’t have the ground clearance to do it. Very remote and sections of deep sand. Big rocks. Ophir doesn’t come close to it.

Pack Drip Drop drink mix. It works wonders when you are wore out.

I'm Jack (big guy in the blue shorts). I'm not really religious by any means, but I do feel like it was no accident that Nate & I were there that day. We had ventured into Lockhart Basin (the direction that Alex was heading) the day before. After about 5 hours of traversing all sorts of obstacles, we ended up getting high-centered on a rock for 2 hours before we finally managed to winch ourselves off of it. We had plenty of water, but the heat had both of us very weak and not thinking clearly. Once we got free, we continued down the trail for another 1.5 hours and got to a spot that we ultimately decided was too risky to try to pass. We decided to turn around, but it was getting close to sundown and there was no way that we were going to try to make our way back out in the dark, so we found a spot and camped for the night. I hadn't eaten much of anything that day, but I was sick to my stomach at the thought of having to go back through what we had been through, so I didn't feel up to eating that night. The next morning we got up early and hit the trail back in the direction that we came in. We never saw a single soul, the entire time that we were out there until we came upon Alex and his bike stuck in the sand. When we made the choice to turn around, we were both pretty devastated, but if it wasn't for us having to turn around, Alex likely wasn't going to see another person on that trail that day. I also ride an adventure bike and even if Alex got loose, the trail ahead of him is not something that I would want to ride on anything heavier than a DRZ400 or similar. Some parts are almost definitely easier on a bike than they were in Nate's truck, but some parts would be extremely difficult. I fully believe that we were there for a reason and I'm really happy that we could help Alex get loose and warn him of the terrain ahead!

@@Jackjackatx Jack, THANK YOU ❤️ for taking your time to share this. Very intriguing, to say the least. God can and will use anyone for His well and purpose and He used you and Nate to save Alex's life and i wholeheartedly believe that. Alex could no way get himself out of that hole, all three of you struggled. He had zero water. It was 109° to 112° no shade. Pretty sure that was a fatal recipe. I was hoping ya all would figure a way to some how tow that bike or get it up on the bed. Obviously for whatever reason that wasn't possible (too heavy to get up on the bed?)
I hope you and Nate consider how super natural that entire event was from the get go of your journey and think about the One who put all that into play. None of it was an accident. May God bless your life greatly Jack, yours and Nates.
Just an amazing and miraculous story 💯🙏

@@andi2234 Nate and I are from Texas and we were on a week-long overlanding/camping trip in Utah. We had both the truck bed and the back seat of the truck completely loaded with gear, so there wouldn't have been room for a passenger or the bike unfortunately. One thing I didn't think about at the time (my wife mentioned this to me while watching this video) is that I could have offered to ride the bike and let Alex rest in the air-conditioned truck. I'm not sure why I didn't think about that at the time. I am a pretty big believer in ATGAT (All The Gear, All the Time), so I wouldn't have been real comfortable riding out without at least having a helmet, but I probably would have anyways given the circumstances. I'm glad that it all ended well and that we all have an interesting story to tell. I'm also loving Alex's videos and living vicariously through him as he goes through this journey!

Alex, I came across you channel a few weeks ago. I finally caught up on all you episodes. (AND WAS THIS A DOOSEY!! LOL) I have really enjoyed watching you progress on the TAT. Each episode, I could see you build new and or improved riding skills. I've been yelling at you to learn how to fix your tires since Oklahoma. HEHE. I think you have the potential to build this channel into something big. Your positive outlook and demeaner, even in the tough situation is very impressive, and makes it a pleasure to watch your adventure. I definately will look forward to the future episodes. I have joined your pation and hope it helps a little.
As a adventure rider myself, I have two sugestions. One, carry more water and two, figure out a way to lighten your load. (Which by this time you already know!!! LOL)
Thank you for sharing your journey and Ride Safe my new RUclips friend!!!

Glad you got out. It even gets 10x gnarlier than that further down and is really not suited at all for a big and loaded bike, let alone solo. I am guessing you were not aware what this trail is but needless to say you had a heck of an adventure and lived to tell the story.

    • @AlexanderSeling

Thank you Kenneth! Yes exactly, I had no idea what was down that trail…I just trusted that it would be doable for an adventure bike but I’m glad I made it out!

Gorgeous scenery and definitely on my riding bucket list. I thought RUclips didn't allow people to post attempted suicides. Riding without water in the desert is like sky diving. Both have a critical reliance on equipment. If your bike dies in the desert or you dig it in so deeply you can't get it out or are pinned under it or get lost or... then you can die.

Nice video. But just an observation. I also own a V Strom 1000I took the stock mufflers off and put on Two Brothers, which reduced the weight about 25 lbs and that is weight up high on the bike. I have ridden a few dirt roads with it but I always ask myself why. It does not handle well the front end wants to wash out, it has very little suspension. On a road like your on we would take our KTM 525 EXC's. That would make the trail fun and fast, you can float on top of the sand and absorb the bumps with 15 inches of travel. Plus the bike only weighs 230 lbs, so you can really handle the. They are a dream in the dirt. I have over 5500 dirt miles on my KTM and never a break down. Not even a flat tire. Ride safe,

V Strom 1000, not great off road I’m afraid (but good on road) they carry their weight way up high and weigh around 230kg with road suspension……..Maybe consider a much lighter bike if you’re going off into the wilderness, all these massive ADV bikes are hopeless when the going gets tough but a lighter dirt bike would be a hoot in those conditions - anyway stay safe enjoyed the Vlog👍

    Stuck this way ?
There's always the better option to pull the bike out of the ditch and go back down the slope.
It takes less effort to turn the bike round on its side than to try to keep it upright, certainly with this soft sand. It would not even scratch the bike

    • @AlexanderSeling

It was in a weird position right on the edge of the small hill so that wasn't an option either unfortunately.
